[EN] The technological innovations experienced in the past decades, together with the revolution of the Internet have changed the banking industry and the way customers perform their banking transactions. With the integration of mobile devices in our everyday life, Mobile Banking (MB) seems to be the next logical step in the evolution of the banking industry. However, MB adoption is still relatively low. Why is this happening? What is stopping customers from using mobile devices to conduct their banking transactions? Lack of trust has been identified as one of the main barriers in the adoption of Internet related technologies. This Thesis Project aims to explore the role of trust and identify which trust determinants are inhibiting customer acceptance of MB in order to support banks to efficiently shape their marketing strategies. A final comparison with Internet banking literature has been conducted in order to identify possible differences and give a fuller understanding of how different customers should be addressed differently. The theoretical model tested in the present dissertation is an extension of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), a widely used model to study user adoption of ITs. The model was extended to include trust and its determinants, with the inclusion of Technological Trust, Perceived Security and Awareness. The results show that Trust plays a major role in the adoption of Mobile banking. Roca Puchades, LR. (2014). Inter-organisational costing approaches: the inhibiting factors

    Get PDF
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to highlight the limitations of current accounting practices in an inter-organisational context; introduce contemporary costing approaches used in inter-organisational costing (IOC) programmes; and identify the inhibitors of successful implementation of IOC programmes. Design/ methodology/approach - The paper uses a structured review of empirical and theoretical literature. Findings - Traditional accounting practices do not adequately fulfil their role in the inter-organisational context. Contemporary accounting practices overcome only some limitations of traditional accounting practices. The paper uncovers part of the complexity surrounding the implementation of IOC programmes and suggests that we are dealing with a broad inter-disciplinary phenomenon. Research limitations/implications - Conclusions are drawn on a conceptual level and further empirical investigation is encouraged. Practical implications - The paper raises the awareness of the complexity surrounding the implementation of IOC programmes. The broad set of inhibiting factors could be effectively used by managers to assess the readiness of organisations involved in implementation of IOC programmes. Originality/value - This research is the first that systematically addresses the problem of inhibitors in the implementation of IOC programmes. The broad scope of the paper sets the foundations for more focused research into specific inhibiting factors

This research thesis presents the development of the Knowledge-Shelf (K-Shelf), a novel knowledge environment concept to support designers throughout Set- Based Concurrent Engineering (SBCE) application. The K-Shelf concept introduces a baseline model to understand the dimensions of knowledge environment in SBCE application as well as its synthetisation with acclaimed SBCE process model as the contribution to knowledge. The K-Shelf concept incorporates three steps of Knowledge Life Cycle (KLC) that comprises of knowledge capture, knowledge representation and knowledge provision. The K- Shelf concept also has three capabilities that supports the set of conceptual design generation, dynamic knowledge capture of design rationale with 5 Whys approach and the comparisons among set of design solutions with Trade-Off Curve (TOC) visualisation. To demonstrate these capabilities, a web-based software is developed based on Rapid Application Development (RAD) approach. Rigorous research methodology is employed to develop the K-Shelf concept. A systematic literature review is applied to capture the current approaches of knowledge environment in SBCE application. Two industrial case studies of Surface Jet Pump (SJP) and Brake Pedal Box (BPB) are presented to validate the K-Shelf concept. Furthermore, two expert judgements were also obtained. Thus, it was established that the K-Shelf is a knowledge environment to enable an effective SBCE application.PhD in Manufacturin

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Projects to model business process are initiated for a variety of reasons. Some organisations initiate process modelling to solve particular problems. Other organisations make process modelling as part of their continuous improvement programme. The ISO9000:2000 standard for quality management effectively mandates a process management approach for any organisations that seek the certification. Any modelling is an abstraction of the real world. Business process modelling is the abstraction of the organisation of activities in an organisation. Abstractions are influenced by the viewpoint of the modeller. The success of the modelling project is judged by how well the model satisfies the objectives of the modelling. From a business perspective, performance management provides the mechanism to set targets(key performance indicators, KPIs) for the different departments and individuals. Integrated approach to apply performance measures on business processes has been successfully applied in some organisations. An effective performance measurement system starts from the mission and vision of the organisation and designs the KPIs for each unit or process from this overall corporate goal. As a means to steer the organisation, the goal and the KPIs have to be changed to respond to the business environment. The theory of business strategy provides many approaches to help senior management to analys
