No full textDzieło Jana Stobajosa z V wieku naszej ery obejmuje ponad dwa i pół tysiąca stron. Autor przywołuje i cytuje około pół tysiąca starożytnych pisarzy oraz ich tekstów, komponując wypisy w sposób budujący koherentny obraz starożytnej literatury, obyczaju i najważniejszych poglądów filozoficznych. Wypisy obejmują wszystkie dziedziny literatury starożytnej: od poetów epickich, lirycznych i tragicznych, znanych i nieznanych, poprzez mówców, historyków i filozofów, aż po medyków. Antologia Stobajosa stanowi bezcenne źródło wiedzy o literaturze starożytnej, wielu autorów znamy z imienia tylko dzięki niej i wiele cytatów jedynie w tym dziele się zachowało. Jest to także autorski podręcznik filozofii i literatury starożytnej, skonstruowany na podstawie ekscerptów z literatury. Dzieło ma również charakter dydaktyczny i należy do historii greckiej paidei.
Mimo swego fundamentalnego znaczenia praca Jana Stobajosa została dotychczas przetłumaczona w całości tylko na język nowogrecki i nie funkcjonuje ani w świadomości zbiorowej, ani w nauce jako jednolite dzieło - nadal to jedynie źródło ważnych cytatów.
Niniejszy przekład komentowany stanowi pierwszy efekt pracy zespołu zajmującego się tłumaczeniem całego dzieła. Ten subiektywny wybór pozwala na lekturę zamkniętych tematycznie rozdziałów.The work of Jan Stobaeus from the 5th century AD covers more than two and a half thousand pages. The author recalls and quotes about half a thousand ancient writers and their texts, composing excerpts in a way that builds a coherent picture of ancient literature, customs and the most important philosophical views. The excerpts cover all areas of ancient literature: from epic, lyric and tragic poets, known and unknown, through orators, historians and philosophers, to physicians. Stobaeus' anthology is an invaluable source of knowledge about ancient literature, many authors are known to us by name only thanks to it and many quotations have only been preserved in this work. It is also an author's textbook of philosophy and ancient literature, constructed on the basis of excerpts from literature. The work also has a didactic character and belongs to the Greek history of paideia.
Despite its fundamental significance, the work of Jan Stobaeus has only been translated in its entirety into Modern Greek and does not function as a unified work in the collective consciousness or in academia - it is still only a source of important quotations.
This commented translation is the first result of the work of the team translating the complete work. This subjective selection allows for the reading of thematically closed chapters

Alkuperäinen 1500-luvun nahkasidos, puukannet, päällystetty siannahalla, kiintoselkä. Sidoksessa on ollut kaksi koristeellista messinkisolkea, jotka säilyneet vain osittain. Sisäkansissa on etupaperi. Sidoksen alussa ja lopussa on yksi tyhjä etulehti, lopussa oleva on ryppyinen. Pumpulilangasta punotut luonnonvaaleat kapiteelinauhat. Sidoksen selässä viisi kaksoisbindiä. Selkään liimattu nimiökenttä paperia. Punaiset syrjät.
----Koristelu
Etu- ja takakannen kokonaan peittävä koristelu sokeapainatuksena, käytetty on kehyssommitelmaa. Molemmissa kolme rullakehystä, uloimpana niistä akantusköynnös, sisimpänä kasviaiheita ja henkilökuvia mitalissa sekä seppele. Etukannen keskikentässä Saksin vaaliruhtinaan vaakuna, takakannen keskikentässä Pyhän Rooman valtakunnan vaakuna. Selän nimiökenttä punaista paperia, jonka teksti ja reunakoristelu lehtikultaa. Selän nimiöetiketti todennäköisesti myöhemmältä ajalta. Koristelussa on käytettyy kahta latta-, kolmea rulla- ja kahta yksittäisleimasinta.

Get PDFThis article contributes to the growing body of research that considers Ioannes Stobaeus not merely as a compiler of excerpts, but as an author with a deliberate editorial agenda. Focusing on Fragment 3 from chapter IV 17 of the Anthology (περὶ ναυτιλίας καὶ ναυαγίου), an excerpt from Sophocles’ lost tragedy Σκύριοι, the study examines textual and interpretive challenges associated with the passage. Special attention is given to the editorial tradition, the range of emendations proposed by modern scholars, and the fragment’s position within the structure and thematic composition of the chapter. The analysis argues that a contextual reading of the excerpt – situated among other passages in the chapter that portray seafaring as perilous, irrational, and ultimately unworthy – can provide critical insights for philological reconstruction. Furthermore, the article situates Stobaeus’ selection within a broader ethical framework, suggesting that the Anthology conveys implicit values through deliberate arrangement. The study ultimately underscores the need to treat Stobaeus not simply as a passive transmitter, but as a curator of moral-philosophical discourse
