It is a very simple story which is told from a dog’s perspective and shows us just why pets are so precious. The writer narrates about happiness, sadness, and loyalty. It shows how pets become part of our lives and love between humans and animals. It highlights the bond of family care , kindness, happiness, joy, sadness and loyalty. The book teaches respect for emotions. It shows that pets give happiness and comfort. The novel presents a refreshing and innocent lens on everyday experiences.     Digital front end for base-station RF

    The digital front-end (DFE) is the most critical stage in a wireless base-station. The DFE along with the analog to digital converter (ADC) is responsible for bridging the analog RF and IF processing on one side and the digital baseband processing on the other side. The most important reason for replacing analog with digital signal processing is the ability to softly reconfigure the channels in the base station RF in real time, thus allowing for the implementation of various signal conditioning, compensation and mitigation channel non-linear responses. Once tested, these algorithms can be implemented on a proprietary CMOS vector processor and commercial FPGA hardware platforms. In this thesis, we attempt to minimize the design efforts and lower the cost involved in the usage of analog electronics by using sophisticated digital signal processing (DSP) for restoring and enhancing the quality of the wireless channels. This thesis presents a versatile Digital Front-End architecture, which has been simulated using MATLAB/Simulink. The architecture includes the design of robust Digital Up-Conversion (DUC) blocks in the transmit downlink and Digital Down-Conversion (DDC) blocks present in the receiver uplink paths in a wireless base station RF. Crest factor reduction (CFR) schemes help reduce the Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR)of the signal entering the base-station and have been implemented widely for code division multiple access (CDMA) and Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, this is important because if the signal with the high PAPR is allowed to pass through the power amplifier(PA) it will result in the amplifier operating in its nonlinear region creating non-linear distortions in amplitude and phase, and the only other way to avoid this is to back off the signal to the linear region of the amplifier thus reducing its efficiency. The selection and design of the DUC and DDC filters has been compared and optimized to match to the spectral mask requirements mentioned in the 3GPP standards. Crest factor reduction has also been studied in detail and a computationally efficient algorithm for meeting the desired PAPR in accordance with the 3GPP standards will be presented. By using the CFR algorithm, the PAPR of the LTE signal was reduced from 10.8 dB to 7 dB and from 10.5 dB to 8 dB for a WCDMA signal. Finally, we implement Digital Predistortion (DPD) which is a method by which one first stimulates a non-linear power amplifier (PA) with baseband samples and then observes the result of that stimulus at its output. Without this process we will need to use a power amplifier with a higher input power rating which needs to be backed off to operate in its linear region thus reducing the efficiency of the PA used and increasing its cost. The process involves the use of a digital predistorter which creates an expanding nonlinearity which when used in cascade with the PA nullifies the compressing nonlinear characteristics of the PA thus enabling its use in its linear region up to its saturating point. A Look-Up Table (LUT) type Adaptive Digital Pre-Distortion (ADPD) is presented; here we developed an algorithm where the output signal of the PA is used as a reference signal. This reference signal is then used to update the coefficients of the LUT, so that the non-linear responses of the PA will not the affect the amplified signals. In addition, we investigated methods such as the nonlinear auto-regressive moving average (NARMA) and the memory polynomial models. In the latter, the predistorter parameters are calculated from the output signal obtained from the PA through the adaptive functions obtained using the memory polynomial. From these parameters, the predistorted signal is reconstructed and fed to the input of the PA. By using the DPD algorithm the nonlinear distortions of the PA came down by 60 dB when a WCDMA signal was used and by around 40 dB when LTE signal was used. As the PA is the heart of the base-station RF, we show that the main function of the DFE is to ensure a PA linearized output with a high efficiency.M.S.Includes bibliographical referencesby Deepak Gop

    Poetry is an amalgam of both melancholy and bliss for Dr. Arya Gopi. She is an Indian bilingual writer who handles a wide variety of themes, the analysis of which would perhaps be a herculean task for a scholar. Her poetry contains everything. It speaks of inner and outer conflicts. It addresses intricacies of human psyche; confronts with life and death alike. Seldom do her words wither to be of a particular theme; instead it embraces everything general. Gopi\u27s collection of poems, Sob of Strings (2016) reveals her keen observation and unique poetic techniques. Her poetry can perhaps be considered synonymous with several of the confessional poems of Sylvia Plath, Emile Dickinson and Kamala Das. Basic human emotions, life, death, nature and the like never really are redshirts here. Another significant aspect of Gopi\u27s poetry must be the vitality of corporeal imagery made use of in Sob of Strings. Body can best used in theatre rather than literature, however, systematic development of bodily symbolism can make a work of literature complete. Body plays a vital role in meaning-making, which is a complex process. Plath and Emile Dickinson have constantly made use of several body centred symbols in order to depict intricacies of the human psyche. So does the author of Sob of Strings. Her poetry thus is a celebration of versatile themes, to justify which the author, without deliberate interruption, uses a handful of corporeal symbols

    Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

    The general metadata -- e.g., title, author, abstract, subject headings, etc. -- is publicly available, but access to the submitted files is restricted to UT Southwestern campus access and/or authorized UT Southwestern users.STUDY OBJECTIVES: To describe the demographic and clinical characteristics of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) referred for polysomnography (PSG) and to look for predictors of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and severe OSA in these children. METHODS: This is a retrospective case series of children ages 2-18 years who underwent PSG between January 2009 and February 2015. Children were excluded if they had major comorbidities, prior tonsillectomy, or missing data. The following information was collected: age, gender, race, height, weight, tonsil size, and prior diagnosis of allergies, asthma, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), seizure disorder, developmental delay, cerebral palsy (CP) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Predictors of OSA were evaluated. RESULTS: A total of 45 children were included with a mean (SD) age of 6.1 (2.8). The patients were 80% male, 49% Hispanic, 27% African American, 22% Caucasian, and 2.2% other. Of these children 26 (58%) had OSA (apnea hypopnea index, AHI >1) and 15 (33%) were obese (body mass index, BMI z-score ≥ 95th percentile). The mean (SD) AHI was 7.7 (15.0) (range 1.0-76.6). A total of 9 (20%) had severe OSA (AHI≥10). There were no demographic or clinical predictors of OSA in this group. However, increasing weight served as a predictor of severe OSA and children who were of African American or Hispanic race had the tendency to be more likely obese. CONCLUSION: The absence of demographic or clinical predictors of OSA supports using general indications for polysomnography in children with ASD

    [EN] High index facet bounded alpha-Fe2O3 pseudocubic crystals has gained the attention of the scientific community due to its promising electrochemical sensing response towards aqueous ammonia. The structural stability of alpha-Fe2O3 pseudocubic crystals is investigated through high-pressure Raman spectroscopy up to 22.2 GPa, and those results are compared with our ab initio theoretical calculations. The symmetry of the experimental Raman-active modes has been assigned by comparison with theoretical data. In addition to the Raman-active modes, two additional Raman features are also detected, whose intensity increases with compression.     Sensor Network Infrastructure for AMI in Smart Grid

    AbstractUtility companies incur financial loss due to transmission losses as well as non technical losses like power theft and billing irregularities. Smart meters with the required functionalities along with an intelligent grid form an Automated Meter Reading (AMR) infrastructure which can improve the distribution efficiency. AMR infrastructure can be expanded by allowing for bi-directional communication between the grid components to form an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). This helps for the smooth interaction between grid components to load and off-load the distributed energy sources while supporting an efficient Demand Side Management of power. Communication technologies play a vital role in the implementation of smart grid and Wireless Sensor Networks are gaining attraction in this field. Routing protocols with high reliability, low latency and that can co-exist with the established protocols are the need of the hour. Routing Protocol for Low Power Lossy Networks (RPL) fit into this space well.
