An International Comparison of Corporate Investment Behavior: Some Implications for the Governance Structure in Japan
Marketing dynamics and management excellence. The sources of successful internationalization of food processing company from transition economy (Case: MASPEX - Poland)
The paper presents a case story of the fall and rise of the food industry in Poland's transition economy, illustrated with the example of one of its most successful companies. The author distinguishes three stages of the economic transition of Poland: · stage one, in which the Polish food processing industry collapsed, faced with fierce foreign competition after the implementation of a strategy of liberalization and privatization; · stage two (since late 1990s) when young, dynamic and relatively well- educated Polish entrepreneurs and managers not only started to regain the local market but also begun international expansion, intensifying exports, primarily to EU markets, · stage three, during which the internationalization took the form of FDI in the former neighboring socialist/communist countries. The MASPEX Group provides an excellent example of successful revival and expansion achieved thanks to the company's: · dynamic marketing strategy executed by · a young, dynamic and highly professional management team.Poland, food processing industry, internationalization, transition economy., Agribusiness,
Feasibility of the Inoue single-branched stent-graft implantation for thoracic aortic aneurysm or dissection involving the left subclavian artery: Short- to medium-term results in 17 patients
ObjectiveThis study assessed the short- to medium-term clinical results of the Inoue single-branched stent graft for repair of thoracic aortic aneurysms or dissections involving the left subclavian artery.MethodsA retrospective review of experiences at two institutions was performed. We analyzed the data of consecutive 17 patients with thoracic aortic aneurysms or dissections who underwent endovascular repairs with the Inoue single-branched stent graft between July 1999 and April 2004. Complete baseline and follow-up data were available on all patients. The mean age was 71 ± 9 years, and 13 of the patients (76%) were men. Eight patients (47%) were considered unfit for open surgery because of advanced age or the presence of comorbid diseases.ResultsThe stent grafts were successfully delivered and deployed in all 17 patients. Periprocedural major complications, defined as those that caused any persistent disorder, occurred in one patient who developed spinal ischemia. A postoperative computed tomographic scan revealed three attachment site endoleaks; two endoleaks were from the proximal attachment sites and one endoleak was from the distal attachment site. The mean follow-up period was 26 months (range, 7 to 65 months). Two deaths occurred in the follow-up period from cerebral bleeding and pneumonia, both considered unrelated to the stent grafting. Two patients with attachment site endoleaks needed secondary stent-grafting; one patient required the implantation of a straight stent-graft in the distal attachment site and the other, the implantation of a double-branched stent-graft. Another patient with attachment site endoleak was considered very high-risk for open surgery or secondary stent grafting and did not undergo secondary intervention. The aneurysmal sac size of the patient has been stable for 28 months. The branched section of the stent graft was patent in all patients in the follow-up period.ConclusionThe results demonstrate the feasibility of the Inoue single-branched stent graft for thoracic aortic aneurysms or dissections involving the left subclavian artery
Water partitioning in the Earth's mantle
We have conducted H2O partitioning experiments between wadsleyite and ringwoodite and between ringwoodite and perovskite at 1673 K and 1873 K, respectively. These experiments were performed in order to constrain the relative distribution of H2O in the upper mantle, the mantle transition zone, and the lower mantle. We successfully synthesized coexisting mineral assemblages of wadsleyite-ringwoodite and ringwoodite-perovskite that were large enough to measure the H2O contents by secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). Combining our previous H2O partitioning data (Chen et al., 2002) with the present results, the determined water partitioning between olivine, wadsleyite, ringwoodite, and perovskite under H2O-rich fluid saturated conditions are 6:30:15:1, respectively. Because the maximum H2O storage capacity in wadsleyite is ∼3.3 wt% (e.g. Inoue et al., 1995), the possible maximum H2O storage capacity in the olivine high pressure polymorphs are as follows: ∼0.7 wt% in olivine (upper mantle just above 410 km depth), ∼3.3 wt% in wadsleyite (410-520 km depth), ∼1.7 wt% in ringwoodite (520-660 km depth), and ∼0.1 wt% in perovskite (lower mantle). If we assume ∼0.2 wt% of the H2O content in wadsleyite in the mantle transition zone estimated by recent electrical conductivity measurements (e.g. Dai and Karato, 2009), the estimated H2O contents throughout the mantle are as follows; ∼0.04 wt% in olivine (upper mantle just above 410 km depth), ∼0.2 wt% in wadsleyite (410-520 km depth), ∼0.1 wt% in ringwoodite (520-660 km depth) and ∼0.007 wt% in perovskite (lower mantle). Thus, the mantle transition zone should contain a large water reservoir in the Earth's mantle compared to the upper mantle and the lower mantle

Toru Terada's "Hakucho Masamune"(1947)
Toru Terada(1915-1995) was both a literary critic and a scholar of French literature. He ranked as a critic after Hideo Kobayashi(1902-1983), who greatly influenced Terada. In this article the author dealt with how Toru Terada thought of the early novels of Hakucho Masamune(1897-1962). Terada started his literary career after he published an article on Hakucho in 1947. The article by Terada was recognized as valid by Hakucho himself. In the same article, "Hakucho Masamune," Terada pointed out that the main characters in Hakucho's early novels were dreamers. In this article the author examines whether Terada was right or not. He concludes that what Terada pointed out is almost right.論文(articles)departmental bulletin pape

<Article>The Revolts of Shezei 社賊 and Tuzei 土賊 during the Late Ming and Early Qing Period
This article aims to make clear the characters of the revolts of Shezei and Tuzei which took place around the right part of the Zhujiang 珠江 Delta during the Late Ming and Early Qing period. Both the revolts of Shezei and Tuzei had the character of a resistance against the xiangshen 郷紳 or gentries. Especially, the revolt of Shezei seriously damaged the gentries and destroyed the villages. Though the revolt of Shezei has been considered as a liberation movement of the nupu 奴僕 (bond servants), the examination clarified two points. 1) The rebellious people were composed not only of the nupu (private subordinates), but also of the dianpu 佃僕 (field servants who were private subordinates similar to the nupu) and also of the other lower class of inhabitants in the villages. 2) The character of this revolt was the composite of three aspects as follows. A) The struggle for the status liberation against their masters by those such as nupu and dianpu. B) Hostility against the rich families which neglected the reproduction and monopolized the profits in the villages. C) The struggle against the rent as a conflict between the dianpu and the landowners. So, the revolt of Shezei countered the xiangshen, involving the various classes and comprising the manifold factors, which have not been clarified
