A noval approach of genetic algorithm for solving examination timetabling problems: A case study of Thai Universities

    No full text
Arranging examination timetable is problematic. It differs from other timetabling problems in terms of conditions. A complete timetable must reach several requirements involving course, group of student sitting the exam in that course, etc. It is similar tothe course's timetable but not the same. Many differences between them include the way to create and the requirements. This paper proposes an adaptive genetic algorithm model applied for improving effectiveness of automatic arranging examination timetable. Hard constraints and soft constraints for this specific problem were discussed. In addition, the genetic elements were designed and the penalty cost function was proposed. Three genetic operators: crossover, mutation, and selection were employed. A simulation was conducted to obtain some results. The results show that the proposed GA model works well in arranging an examination timetable. With 0.75 crossover rate, there is no hard constraints appeared in the timetable

Improving Effectiveness of Hospital Services via Resource Rearrangement:Pranakorn Sri Ayutthaya Hospital, Thailand

    No full text
Hospital managers search ways to streamline the process of outpatient’s service byoptimizing the use of resource involved in the process. One of the main objectives of hospitalmanagement is to reach the optimized utilization of human resource, medical equipments, treatment rooms as well as maximized customers’ demand. It is translated into a rational use ofresources and maximization of the customers’ satisfaction, who contributes to the enterprise’sdurability. Using simulation models, the hospital manager is enabled to assess utilization ofhuman resources involved in the process and, in effect, increases customers’ satisfaction. In thisstudy, a Thai hospital is taken to exhibit how the process of outpatient’s service, as a case, issimulated. AweSim®version3.0, a discrete event simulator, is employed to simulate this servicesystem. Design parameters are derived and adjusted to examine the effects. This paperdescribed research in a Thai hospitals’ outpatient process systems, focused on a study of how toorganize limited resources to gain reduction of overall service time as well as an increase ofcustomers’ satisfaction, and to provide a recommendation for a better service in outpatientprocess systems

Consistent Regime-Switching Lasso Model of the Biomass Proximate Analysis Higher Heating Value

    No full text
Prediction accuracy is crucial for higher heating value (HHV) models to promote renewable biomass energy, especially its consistency is crucial when retraining data and knowledge of the range are unavailable. Current HHV models lack consistency in accuracy and interpretability due to various reasons. Thus, this study aimed to construct an interpretable and consistent proximate-based biomass HHV model on a wide-range dataset. The model, regime-lasso, integrated the concepts of regime-switching, lasso regression, and federated averaging to construct a consistent HHV model. The regime-switching partitioned the dataset into optimal regimes, and the lasso trained the regime models. The regime-lasso model is a collection of these models. It provided root  mean square error of 0.4430– 0.9050, mean absolute error of 0.2743–0.6867, and average absolute error of 1.512–4.5894% in the literature’s wide-range datasets. The Kruskal–Wallis test confirmed the in-sample performance consistency at α=0.05, regardless of the training sets. In the out-of-sample situations without retraining, the model preserved its accuracy in six out of 11 datasets at α = 0.01. The interpretability of regime-lasso indicated the regime characteristic to be a factor of inconsistent prediction. The increase in FC had the maximum positive impact on HHV in the 2nd and 3rd regimes, while the increase in ASH negatively impacted the 1st and 2nd regimes. VM variation had neutral effects in all regimes. The regime-lasso solves the issues of accuracy declination and addresses the challenges in sensitivity analysis of the HHV model. The prediction accuracy issues of the model’s direct implementation were fixed

A HCI Keyboard Layout Design for Blind People

Presently, computers have become a part of everybodydaily life, including disables such as blind people. Akeyboard is a main input equipment of computers. However, these keyboards are not yet suitable for blindpeople, especially for the Thai alphabet system. Thispaper proposes a new layout design of computer keyboardfor blind people. The research results show that Braillecharacter code is very attractive to be used for designingthe layout. Many mechanisms for arrangement the keysor buttons are investigated and the results shows that totype Thai Braille character code, the keyboard layoutrequires add/drop cells buttons in addition to the normalbuttons representing number 1 to 6 of the Braille charactercode. Moreover, the results suggest that such buttonsmust be in order of 5 3 1 2 4 and 6 rather than 1 2 3 4 5 and6 which has been used in many keyboard currentlyavailable on the market
