Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
절개창 탈장의 재발에 영향을 미치는 절개창 탈장 수술기법의 분석

Methods: The study cohort consisted of 324 consecutive patients who underwent IH repair from January 2004 to December 2014 at a single institution. We retrospectively analyzed pre- and perioperative data collated from all patients medical records. Totally, 44 (13.6%), 57 (17.6%), and 223 (68.8%) patients were classified into the simple suturing, partial mesh, and full mesh groups, respectively. The mean follow-up period was 39.4 (range, 0–259) months.
Results: The overall incidence of recurrent incisional hernia was 9.9% (32/324). The two-year cumulative recurrent rates for simple suturing, partial mesh, and full mesh groups were 23%, 14%, and 6%, respectively. This study revealed that mesh application in incisional hernia repair surgery resulted in significantly lower cumulative recurrence rates than that observed with simple suturing. Mesh was applied either only on the hernial site (partial coverage) or over all the previously incised fascia (complete coverage). However, the recurrence rate did not differ significantly between patients who had received partial and total mesh coverage (log rank p=0.096). Factors such as age, sex, obesity, and number of previous abdominal surgeries did not influence incisional hernia recurrence. Adjusted analysis showed that mesh application was the only significant factor associated with IH recurrence. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that mesh reinforcement during IH repair is an important technique for preventing recurrence. 방법: 2004 년 1 월부터 2014 년 12 월까지 단일 기관에서 절개창 탈장에 대해 수술적 치료를 받은 324 명의 연속 환자로 구성되었다. 전향적으로 기록된 전자의무기록에서 수술 전 및 수술 전 기록을 후향적으로 조사하여 분석하였다. 총 44 명 (13.6 %), 57 명 (17.6 %), 223 명 (68.8 %)의 환자가 각각 일차 봉합, 부분 인공막 및 전체 인공막 그룹으로 분류하였다. 평균 관찰 기간은 39.4 개월 (0-259 개월)이었다.
결과: 재발성 절개 탈장의 전체 발생률은 9.9% (32/324)이다. 일차 봉합, 부분 인공막 및 전체 인공막 그룹에 대한 2 년 누적 절개창 탈장 재발률은 각각 23 %, 14 % 및 6 %입다. 절개 탈장 복원 수술에서 인공막의 적용이 일차 봉합에서 관찰 된 것보다 누적 재발률이 상당히 낮음을 보여 주었다. 인공막은 탈장 부위 (부분 인공막) 또는 이전에 절개 된 근막 (전체 인공막)에만 적용되었습니다. 그러나, 부분 및 전체 인공막 보강 수술을 받은 환자들 사이에서 재발률은 통계학적인 유의성을 보이지 않았다 (log rank p = 0.096). 다변량 분석에서 성별, 흡연력, 수술 후 절개창감염력을 보정한 후에도 인공막 적용이 절개창 탈장의 재발과 관련된 인자임을 보여준다.
