The importance of spin-orbit coupling and electron correlation in the rationalization of the ground state of the CUO molecule
The importance of electron correlation and spin-orbit coupling in the rationalization of the ground state of the CUO molecule is discussed. It was observed that SOC gave a consistent energy splitting of the triplet state contribution that does not depend much on the method used to compute a splitting. It was found that at SFDC-HF level of theory, the two states

A QM/MM study on the aqueous solvation of the tetrahydroxouranylate [UO2(OH)(4)](2-) complex ion
We report a QM augmented QM/MM study on the coordination of the tetrahydroxouranylate ion in aqueous solution. QM/MM geometry optimizations followed by full QM single-point calculations on the optimized structures show that a hexa-coordinated structure is more stable than the hepta-coordinated structure by 43 kJ/mol. Charge transfer of the tetrahydroxouranylate to the solvating water molecules is relatively modest, and can be modeled by including a solvation layer consisting of 12 explicit water molecules. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc
TAPT and contextmapping : understanding how we understand experience
Teasing Apart, Piecing Together (TAPT) and Contextmapping (CM) are cross-disciplinary methods for understanding people's experiences, in order to build better products and services. Whereas TAPT concerns deconstructing and reconstructing experiences, CM is a method for accessing laypeople's tacit knowledge to support design. This article describes these methods, which have been used in domains including the humanities, software engineering, and industrial design. It describes a small comparative evaluation that explores the types of insight yielded by each method, and the contexts of use in which each method is suitable. Eight students worked in pairs on two design tasks, producing designs, responding to questionnaires, and participating in a group discussion. The design tasks were built to further the research of the second author, who assessed the designs in this context. Initial results showed that both methods were suitable for use, but that TAPT was better at dealing with emotional and social aspects of experience, and was faster and easier to use: TAPT was arguably better suited to the tasks. This study demonstrates a suitable approach for comparing design methods, and lets us identify the more important research questions about the use of TAPT and CM. The designs that our participants produced can be used in a future study to garner more insights, particularly about how informative and inspirational method outputs are. The strongest factors when deciding which method to use appear to be whether there is a desired focus on emotional and social facets, and the time available to apply the method

A hermeneutical approach to creative perception as an element in photography
Thesis (M. Tech.) - Central University of Technology, Free State, 2011The purpose of the study is to mitigate the restrictions of ocularcentrism by employing an interactive hermeneutical approach to the creation and interpretation of the implied meanings in a photograph. The principles of hermeneutic phenomenology are applied to outline the putative strengths and weaknesses associated with ocularcentrism as applied to photography and to attempt to illustrate how the proposed model of aesthetic participation may overcome these weaknesses. The literature review shows that ocularcentrism is a mode of perception concerned with a one-sided preference to sight over the other senses and may limit photographers and perceivers to create or interpret meaning in a photograph solely on what they see. Concerning ocularcentrism, it is not the art object alone, but the self-centred worldviews of the photographer and perceiver that limit the basis for the development of an interactive aesthetic experience. The photographer who successfully challenges the ocularcentric worldviews of perceivers in the world of the work succeeds in initiating participation between all the coordinates of the proposed interactive hermeneutical model of aesthetic participation. Interactivity between the coordinates artist, perceiver, artwork and worldviews is achieved through the application of creative strategies during the creation of photographs. These creative strategies may include facets that contradict consistency building, illusion building, defamiliarization, irony, the deliberate stimulation or frustration of a perceiver's interpretation and the use of a known theme placed within an unknown context with a view on challenging the ocularcentric perceptions of perceivers. The application of any combination of these strategies is the decision of the photographer, who applies them according to the imaginary embodiment of the photographer in the position of the perceiver. The photographs produced by the author for analysis in this study presents three images which elicit allegorical, figurative and esoterical forms of interpretation. Each step of the hermeneutic phenomenological process was carefully documented prior to the analysis and are presented in the hermeneutic phenomenological format in conjunction with the proposed interactive model of aesthetic participation. The main point that emerged from this study is that a hermeneutical approach to creative perception as an element in photography will give rise to interactive participation between all the coordinates of the proposed interactive hermeneutical model of aesthetic participation and thus ocularcentric restrictions may be overcome by photographers and perceivers by employing an interactive hermeneutical approach when creating as well as interpreting the implied meanings in a photograph
Abstract : The change in the epidemiological profile of HIV / AIDS from the implementation of Antiretroviral Therapy is changing the monitoring of people living with HIV / AIDS, raising new demands and concerns, such as care from transition to HIV positive adolescents to HIV health service child to adult. Given the chronic nature of AIDS and the need for continuous monitoring, the transition of adolescents with HIV / AIDS by vertical transmission of child health to adult service is inevitable, bringing concern to professionals who assist the public. Different factors during the transition process, interfere acceptance by adolescents this process of change as the adolescent's ability to adapt. The teenager living with HIV / AIDS is a group that demand challenges and special care needs, such as emotional support, monitoring by different professionals, continuing education and new knowledge and practice of care. The objective of the study is to understand the meaning that adolescents with HIV / AIDS attribute to the child reference service health care transition to the adult reference service. Study of qualitative, descriptive nature, the theoretical reference the Symbolic Interaction. It was held in a state reference service in the control and treatment of people with HIV / AIDS, located in Florianópolis / SC, linked to the State Secretariat of Health of Santa Catarina (SES / SC) and a specialized service for STD / AIDS in Municipal county Health St. Joseph / SC. Data collection took place between August-November 2014 through dialogue-based and individual interviews, using a semi-structured script. The participants were 17 adolescents with diagnoses of HIV infection by vertical transmission, with prior knowledge of their diagnosis, they experienced the transition from child health service to adult health services and in monitoring these health services. Data were analyzed from the content analysis, which led to the formation of the categories and themes. The results were organized and presented in two manuscripts, the first entitled "The meaning of living with HIV / AIDS in adolescence: limitations and expectations", which describes the effects of living with HIV / AIDS in adolescence front orphanhood and family protection, influences in relationships, the limit and expectation to treatment and dichotomies between the teenager be equal and different from others in living with the disease. The second, entitled "The meaning of the transition between health services for adolescents with HIV / AIDS", discusses the impact of the disclosure of diagnosis in the treatment and adolescent transition, the process of maturation and the impact of transition following the care and adherence to treatment,14demonstrating the importance of the host and the construction and reconstruction of links with the health team. In adolescent life process with HIV / AIDS can be decisive in how the disease is seen by them as well as the relations of prejudice and stigma, so that interpersonal relationships are symbol of the difficulty of acceptance of their chronic condition. As the adolescent search resemble the other adolescents, the need to take routine care and treatment imposed by living with HIV / AIDS makes it different from other teenagers, and the search for self acceptance a constant for these teenagers, a fact that should be considered by health professionals. Thus, the service transition can be very painful for some adolescents, especially by ignorance of the new service and the approach of change adopted by professionals, or successful when it finds suitable host, if corresponsabiliza and represent its growth and integration in adulthood. The study allows us to understand the meanings attributed by adolescents in living with HIV / AIDS in adolescence phase and the transition process, and led us to understand that such meanings need to be considered in building a positive transition process and comprehensive care to this patient. Only a new perspective on the transition process, based on the meanings of living with HIV / AIDS in adolescence is that it can allow us to develop actions that not only provide, but they do different in the health-disease process of these adolescents, serving as aid to reduce suffering and promote their health
An omission in guidelines: cardiovascular disease prevention should also focus on dietary policies for healthcare facilities
Suboptimal diet is a major modifiable risk factor in cardiovascular disease. Governments, individuals, educational institutes, healthcare facilities and the industry all share the responsibility to improve dietary habits. Healthcare facilities in particular present a unique opportunity to convey the importance of healthy nutrition to patients, visitors and staff. Guidelines on cardiovascular disease do include policy suggestions for population-based approaches to diet in a broad list of settings. Regrettably, healthcare facilities are not explicitly included in this list. The authors propose to explicitly include healthcare facilities as a setting for policy suggestions in the current and future ESC Guidelines for cardiovascular disease prevention in clinical practice.
