The population of the study consisted of patients receiving outpatient or inpatient treatment with a diagnosis of cancer at Niğde Ömer Halisdemir Training and Research Hospital. The sample size was calculated according to a certain sampling method and the study was completed with 210 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected with the Personal Information Form, which includes the demographic characteristics of individuals diagnosed with cancer, the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the Prolonged Grief Disorder Scale-Patient Form (PG-12-Patient Form). The relationships between the numerical data obtained from the research were evaluated with the Spearman Correlation Analysis and the Mann Whitney U and Kruskall Wallis tests in comparisons between the groups. Participants received an average score of 18.26±12.12 on the BDI and an average score of 30.47±10.66 on the PG-12-Patient Form Scale. The mean BDI score was found to be statistically significantly higher in people whose education level was literate, whose income was less than their expenses, who received chemotherapy and radiotherapy, who had a psychiatric disease and who used psychiatric medication. The PG-12-Patient Form mean score is statistically significantly higher in people whose income is less than their expenses, who have a psychiatric illness, and who use psychiatric medication. A weak positive, statistically significant relationship was determined between the age of the participants and the BDI score, and a positive, moderate, statistically significant relationship was determined between the BDI and PG-12-Patient Form. It is recommended that cancer patients be monitored for symptoms of depression and prolonged grief and that this screening be included in the standard treatment protocol. The relationship between empathic tendency and professional sati·sfaction, exhausti·on and compassion fatigue in nurses
This descriptive study was conducted to determine the level of empathic tendency, professional satisfaction, burnout and compassion fatigue in nurses and to examine the relationship between these variables. The population of the study consisted of nurses serving in Niğde Ömer Halisdemir Training and Research Hospital, and the study was completed with 345 nurses who provided direct patient care and accepted to participate in the study. The data were collected using the Personal Information Form, Empathic Tendency Scale and Professional Quality of Life Scale, which were prepared by the researchers in line with the relevant literature. The relationship between the numerical data obtained from the study was evaluated by Spearman Correlation Analysis, and the difference between the groups was evaluated by Mann-Whitney U and Kruskall Wallis tests. The mean total score of the Empathic Tendency Scale (ETS) of the nurses participating in the study was 69.74±10.68, the mean score of the Occupational Satisfaction Subdimension of the Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQOL) was 31.71±9.86, the mean score of the Burnout Subdimension was 19.62±6.41, and the mean score of the Compassion Fatigue Subdimension was 19.29±6.41. While a statistically significant relationship was found between the ETS and the ProQOL Occupational Satisfaction Subdimension at a positive high level (r=.650, p0.05). It was found that the mean score of the ETS was statistically significantly higher in nurses whose gender was female, who worked only during the daytime, who chose the profession willingly, who were satisfied with their profession, who did not think of leaving the profession, who felt competent in understanding patients, who thought that they were compassionate in daily life and professional life, who were affected by the pain of the patients they cared for, and who did not feel occupational burnout. It was found that the Professional Satisfaction Sub-dimension of the ProQOL was affected by willingly choosing the profession, being satisfied with the profession, thinking of leaving the profession, feeling competence in understanding patients, thinking that they are compassionate in their daily and professional life, being affected by the suffering of patients under care and feeling professional burnout. It was found that the Burnout Sub-dimension of the ProQOL was affected by willingly choosing the profession, being satisfied with the profession, thinking of leaving the profession, feeling competence in understanding patients, thinking that they are compassionate in their daily and professional life, being affected by the suffering of the patients under care, experiencing compassion fatigue and feeling occupational burnout. On the other hand, it was determined that the Compassion Fatigue Sub-dimension of the ProQOL was affected by thinking that they were compassionate in their daily life, being affected by the suffering of the patients under care, being emotionally exhausting of the compassion shown to the patients, experiencing compassion fatigue and the preferred strategy to cope with compassion fatigue. The results show that the quality of professional life of nurses should be improved in order for the nursing care to be more qualified. For this, it can be said that necessary institutional arrangements such as break opportunities, rotations, work area changes, and organisation of working hours should be made
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist
We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
