Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Indirect Inguinal Hernia (IIH) occurs as a result of the filling of the abdominal organs into the open PV due to the fact that the processus vaginalis formed during the descent of the testicle to the scrotum during the fetal period is not obliterated. If left untreated, tissue or organ loss can occur and can be life-threatening. IIH is a multifactorial disease and different genetic pathways play a role in PV obliteration. To investigate the etiology of IIH, GATA6 and TBX3 gene expressions and SNP analyzes were performed in tissue samples obtained from 20 male IIH and 20 circumcised patients who were operated in Trakya University Pediatric Surgery Clinic. Expression of GATA6 increased (p<0.001) and TBX3 expression decreased (p<0.001) in IIH group. However, no polymorphism was found in the genotyping analysis. The absence of apoptosis despite the increased GATA6 expression levels in the IIH group suggests that the GATA6-Bax interaction in PPVs should be investigated immunohistochemically. It is concluded that the interaction with GATA6 should be investigated further, since decreased TBX3 expression levels regulate apoptosis through TGF-?1 and WNT pathways. According to the results of the study, it can be said that a pathology present in the GATA6 and TBX3-mediated steps in the apoptotic pathway may cause the development of IIH. However, we believe that more comprehensive studies are needed to study more genes involved in the apoptotic pathway with more patients or through methods such as animal studies and tissue culture, and these studies will be useful in elucidating the etiology of IIH

Tıpta UzmanlıkBu çalışmada sıçanlarda oluşturulan kalın bağırsak rezeksiyon-anastomoz modelinde, metilen mavisinin doku iyileşmesi üzerine etkisini mekanik, biyokimyasal ve histopatolojik olarak değerlendirmek amaçlandı. Çalışmamızda her birinde 10'ar adet wistar albino sıçan bulunan üç grup oluşturuldu. Grup 1 (Sham) : Karın orta hat insizyonu yapılıp kapatıldı. Grup 2 (RA) : Karma orta hattan girilip, inen kolona rezeksiyon-anastomoz yapıldı. Anahtar Kelimeler: Metilen Mavisi; Anastomoz; Yara İyileşmesiThe aim of this study is to evaluate mechanical, histopathological and biochemical effects of methylene blue on the wound healing at the colonic resection-anastomosis modality in rats. In our study, three groups were formed and each group contains 10 Wistar albino rats. Group 1 (Sham group): Abdominal mid-line incision was performed and the incision was closed. Group 2 (RA group): After abdominal mid-line incision, resection-anastomosis of descending colon was performed Group 3 (RAM group): In addition Group 2, intraperitoneal methylene blue was given in this group. After 8 days of the surgical procedure, all rats were hipnotised irreversible. The burst pressure of colonic segments containing anastomosis line, was measured with manometric method and hydroxyprolin levels at this segments was evaluated. In histopathologycal examination mucosal damage, inflammatory answer, vascularisation and cross-linked collagen tissue of the all-colonic sides, were evaluated as tissue healing parameters. Anova and %2 tests were used to compare groups. Tissue hydroxypyroline levels were found out as follows, in sham group 5,46 ± 0,18, in RA group 2,66 ± 0,21, in RAM group 3,74 ± 0,23ug/lmg wet tissue. The burst pressure of 38derived from manometer were found oat as follows: in sham group 127,3 ± 4,39, in RA group 68,8 ± 2,61, in RAM group 88,6 ± 2,71 mmHg. Tissue hydroxypyroline and burst pressure was statistically higher in RAM group than RA group (p<0,05). On hystopathologycal evaluation was found that tissue healing in RAM group was better than RA group. We think that methylene blue positively affect colonic tissue healing enhanced tissue resistance in rats which were performed colonic resection and anastomosis. Cross linked collagen fibrills were increased all colonic layers of RAM group towards RA group. Collagen tissue at RA group were irreguler and lower unexpected as hystopathologycal and biochemical. Methylene blue may work in tissue healing by these ways as follows; receive electron for tissue oxidase, block molecular oxygen to superoxide reaction, block soluble cGMP formation that is messenger of nitric oxide. These results important as clinical and may become local-systemic effect due to methylene blue. Keywords: Methylene Blue; Anastomoses; Wound Healin
