Availability of Circulating MicroRNAs as a Biomarker for Early Diagnosis of Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma
No full textAbstract Background: MicroRNA (miRNA) regulates post-transcriptional gene expression through binding to complementary sites of target messenger RNA, including that from oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes. This study planned to pursue the possibility that circulating miRNA could be used for the early diagnosis of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Materials and Methods: Expression levels of miRNA obtained from serum, exosome-enriched serum, and formalin-fixed paraffinembedded (FFPE) tissue were evaluated. Samples were collected from patients with newly diagnosed DLBCL (n = 33) or healthy volunteers (n = 22). Based on the results of previous reports, ten miRNAs were selected and expression levels were analyzed by the quantitative real-time PCR. Results: The expression levels of hsa-miR-15a-3p, hsa-miR-21-5p, hsa-miR-181a-5p, and hsa-miR-210-5p differed significantly between DLBCL patients and controls in serum and/or exosomeenriched serum, but not in FFPE tissue. In contrast, expression levels of hsa-miR-155-5p in FFPE tissue were significantly higher in DLBCL patients, as previously reported. Conclusion: We confirmed that some miRNAs were differentially expressed in serum from DLBCL patients as previously reported. Measurement of these miRNA in exosome-enriched serum did not improve the accuracy in the differential diagnosis of DLBCL. The use of Andantol in the Treatment of Allergic Diseases at Urological Clinic
No full textAndantol (N-Dimetylamino-isopropyl-thiophenyl-pyridylamin e -HCI) was orally administered to the patients with such allergic diseases as non-bacterial hemorrhagic cystitis, allergic renal hematuria, hemorrhagic seminal vesiculitis, non-bacterial urethritis and others. It gave excellent results in the majority of the patients treated. No side effect was encountered. Andantol was topically applied to several cases of non-bacterial ureth r i tis, chronic cystitis and contact dermatitis with adhesive plaster. It was proved to be effective in lessening subjective complaints in those cases. Andantol was also injected to t h ose patients with urticaria resulting from the injection of contrast media, blood transfusion, diet-intake and cold atmosphere. Prompt subsidence of eruption was obtained in all the patients, but followed by some sleepiness

Statistics on Operations Including Anesthesia and Blood Loss with Clinical Evaluation of a Hemostatica "Dicynone" in Urological Surgery
No full textOut of a total of 4, 282 operations performed during the p eriod of 12 years 1950 to 1961 in the Department of Urology of Kyoto University Hospital, 884 were nephrectomies, 113 pyelolithotomies, 304 ureterolithotomies and 169 prostatectomies. Of late, general anesthesia has become to be much more frequently used than others, particularly in surgery of the upper urinary tract. The average blood loss of nephrectomy, py e lolithotomy, ureterolithotomy and prostatectomy was 256 g, 264 g, 65 g and 599 g in weight respectively. DICYNONE, a hemostatica, was intramuscul a r ly administered to 60 cases of such urological operations as nephrectomies, pyelolithotomies, ureterolithotomies and prostatectomies, giving a excellent effect in reducing the average blood lose in those operations
The Effects of Foreign Direct Investment on Industrial Growth: Evidence from a Regulation Change in China
No full textInward foreign direct investment (FDI) in China has been accompanied by rapid economic growth. A growing literature has emerged in recent years examining the role of FDI on Chinese economic growth. However, measuring the effects of FDI has been challenging, because other factors which influence firms' productivity occur in parallel with FDI, and because economic growth also simultaneously attracts FDI. To address these endogeneities, this paper analyzes the effects of a change in the FDI regulations on the productivity growth of Chinese industries using Chinese industry-level panel data. In 2002, the Chinese government lifted its regulations on the entry of foreign affiliates, which has made it substantially easier for foreign firms to engage in FDI in affected industries. As a result of this regulation change, our difference-in-differences estimates show that these industries experienced significantly larger increases in foreign firms' total sales, exports, and domestic sales. We also find that this increase in FDI resulted in an increase in labor productivity and in total factor productivity (TFP) of the affected industries and local industries, but we do not find that they experienced significantly larger inflows of FDI or productivity growth before 2002, which provides evidence against endogeneity concerns. The results above are sufficiently robust to include changes in industrial tariff reduction as controls. These findings suggest that the growth of foreign sales and TFP in affected industries is not well explained except by the effects of regulation changes
