Exploring the Different Patterns of Entrepreneurial Exit: The Causes and Consequences
Since the phenomena of entrepreneurship became popular among scholars and politicians, it seems that it is addressed as "golden formula" for economic growth, regional development and personal wellbeing. Success is motivating and for any reason, maybe because of the Angelo-American dominance in this field, failure is not an option. From qualitative research it is known that before one single entrepreneurial success, many failures are to overcome first. Especially in the start-up phase of entrepreneurship the unwanted exit occurs in most cases. In the non-American part of the world, failure as an entrepreneur is not only a financial deception; it is often experienced as an emotional and social disaster with hugh negative impact on further social and professional career. This paper wants to contribute to the knowledge and insights on the causes and effects of entrepreneurial exit scenarios. This might shed some light on the dark sides of entrepreneurship and give opportunities to designers of support-systems for starting entrepreneurs and curricula of universities and colleges to prevent young nascent entrepreneurs for a tragic and traumatic entrepreneurial exit experience.Product Innovatie ManagementIndustrial Design Engineerin
The Narrative Pattern in the Novel “First Person Pronoun” Dhameer Al-Mutaklim” By Fayçal El-Ahmar
The current study, titled the narrative pattern in the novel “Dhameer Al-mutaklim” by the author Fayçal Al-Ahmar tackles a technical feature that draws attention in the novel, this feature is related to the narrative implication on which the novel was based in building its structure, a technique derived from the narrative heritage that contributed to the creation of a literary hybrid in terms of form. The study has also addressed the levels of the narrator in the novel, as well as the author’s philosophy of presence and absence pursued by him through the distribution and employment of pronouns, namely the “the first person pronoun”, which dominated the chapters of the novel and embodied the voice of the margin in it
Why do some entrepreneurs decide to give up? Exploring the causes through cognitive maps
Despite the contributions of previous studies, no satisfying answer has been provided to explain why some entrepreneurs decided to exit from entrepreneurship. This question will remain extremely complex and difficult to answer if researchers continue to study this phenomenon using uni-dimensional and/or binary approach. The aim of this paper is to contribute to a better understanding the complexity of entrepreneurial exit by proposing an integrative and typological framework. This study seeks to provide tow main contributions. First, given the little research integrating in the same studies the individual and firm levels of analysis, the current research propose an integrative theoretical framework based on entrepreneur/new venture dialogic and highlighting the multidimensional, the multiform and the paradoxical aspect of entrepreneurial exit. Second, despite the wide use of cognitive approach in entrepreneurship, only a few studies have used cognitive maps as a tool for understanding the “negative entrepreneurial outcomes”, such as the exit decisions of entrepreneurs. The methodological framework is based on cases studies of four entrepreneurs who have made the entrepreneurial exit decision. Based on cognitive mapping approach, the method used is this paper is divided into three stages. The first stage explores the view of the entrepreneur with regard to his/her exit experience and is based on non-directive interview. The second stage applies the cross-impact “cognitive matrix” in an effort to define the relationship among the concepts gathered during the first stage. In the final stage, the cognitive map composed of concepts and links is analysed in order to identify the root causes of entrepreneurial exit. The findings of this qualitative study show that entrepreneurial exit is not the exclusive consequence of the presence of positive or negative exit reasons, but the immediate result of the interaction of six key dimensions that this research aims to explore, describe and classify. The resulting analytical framework can be used as “visual support” by researchers and professional actors to provide an overall view of the entrepreneurial failure phenomenon, to better analyze its causes, and to build strategies for avoiding tragic and traumatic exit experiences.Product Innovatie ManagementIndustrial Design Engineerin
Fiscal Systems for Oil : The Government "Take" and Competition for Exploration Investment
Exploration for petroleum occurs on the
basis of government-granted concessions, leases, or
contracts whose terms and conditions are established by law
or negotiated case by case. An important part of these
arrangements is the fiscal terms and conditions-bonuses,
rentals, royalties, and taxes. The author looks at fiscal
systems around the world and draws some conclusions about
how governments compete for exploration investment
ESA: An Efficient Self-deployment Algorithm for Coverage in Wireless Sensor Networks
AbstractThe fundamental challenge after an arbitrary initial distribution of sensor nodes in wireless sensor network (WSN), is the problems of the coverage and the connectivity. Where we can find that the some portions of area of interest (AI) are not covered; and some sensor nodes are isolated. To solve this problem, several protocols were proposed which are generally based on geometrical approaches. In this paper, we suggest a distributed and localized protocol, called Efficient Self-deployment Algorithm (ESA) to improve the coverage and to maintain the connectivity in mobile WSN. Where mobile sensors can move and self-organize in the best positions. The suggested protocol runs at periods of equal time. In each period, the nodes move toward new destinations in order to increase the coverage and the connectivity gradually although the existing obstacles in AI. Our simulations show the robustness of our solution and that it provides better results than Centroid, Dual-Centroid, VOR and Minmax algorithms in terms of coverage ratio and moving distance
0561: Threshold of predictive SPAP dyspnea in mitral stenosis with Doppler cardiac stress at maximum effort
BackgroundA Doppler cardiac stress of mitral stenosis (MS), the threshold of the systolic pulmonary artery pressure (SPAP) at the peak of the effort proposed by the American Recommendations (AHA / ACC) for mitral dilation is 60mmHg. However, this value is questioned in the literatureObjectiveIn Doppler cardiac stress, determine the peak effort threshold of SPAP the prediction of the occurrence of dyspnea justifying percutaneous mitral dilation in patients with MSMethodologyProspective descriptive study conducted in the cardiology department of Beni Messous Hospital (Algiers) between March 2008 and December 2010. Havebeen included patients with mitral area≤2cm2, functional class I, II, III NYHA and SPAP≤60mm Hg at rest. Dyspnea was sought to stress test on a treadmill (30Watts/3min). Dyspnea was present in patients who stopped the exam to load≤90W. The stress echo Doppler was performed on table echocardiography (30W /3 min). The mean SPAP was measured at baseline and at the end of each level to the peak of the effort.ResultsThree hundred patients were included, aged 42.3±1.3 years, sex ratio of 0.23. At the end of the stress test, 182 patients had dyspnea (60.6%). A doppler ultrasound stress analysis of diagnostic qualities of SPAP with threshold recommendations Americans showed the following results at peak exercise: sensitivity=0.96, specificity=0.34, positive likelihood=1.45, positive predictive value (PPV)=69%, positive predictive error(PPE)=31%, informative expected capacity(IEC)=26.Our results show that maximum effort, the threshold of SPAP giving the best capabilities discrimination between patients and non dyspnea and patients with dyspnea was 75.5mmHg: sensitivity=0.80, specificity=0.98, positive likely hood=47.18, PPV=99%, PPE=1% and IEC=277ConclusionIn this study, the optimal value of the SPAP predictive peak effort dyspnea justifying the expansion is 75.5mmHg
0539: Value of the mean mitral gradient predictive of dyspnea in mitral stenosis in stress echo Doppler cardiac at peak effort
BackgroundIn stress echo Doppler cardiac of mitral stenosis (MS), the cut point of the mean mitral gradient (MMG) at the peak of the effort proposed by the American Recommendations for mitral dilation is 15mmHg. However, this value is questioned in the literatureObjectiveIn stress echo Doppler, determine the peak effort cutoff value of the MMG prediction of the occurrence of dyspnea justifying percutaneous mitral dilation in patients with MSMethodologyProspective descriptive study conducted in the Cardiology Department Hospital Beni Messous (Algiers) between March 2008 and December 2010. Have been included patients with mitral area ≤2 cm², functional class I to III NYHA and systolic pulmonary artery pressure ≤60mm Hg at rest. Dyspnea was sought to stress test on a treadmill (30W/3min). Dyspneic patients are those who have stopped the examination for a load ≤90W due to the occurrence of severe dyspnea. The stress echo Doppler was performed on table echocardiography (30W/3min). The MMG was measured at baseline and at the end of each level to the peak of the effortResultsThree hundred patients were included (mean age 42.3±1.3 years, 81.3% female). At the end of the stress test, 182 had dyspnea (60.6%). Areas under the curve of the MMG at peak stress is equal to 0.80, 95% confidence interval= 0.75-0.85 (p<10-3). In predicting dyspnea justifying percutaneous mitral dilation, the optimal cutoff value of the MMG corresponds to 33.5mmHg: sensitivity=0.55, specificity=0.96, positive likelihood=13.21, positive predictive value (PPV) =95%, positive predictive error (PPE) =5%, Informative Expected Capacity (IEC) =109. However, the diagnostic quality of the MMG at maximum effort with the cut point of 15mmHg proposed by the American Recommendations is low: sensitivity=0.98, specificity=0.008, positive likelihood=0.98, PPV=60.0%, PPE=40.0%, IEC= 0.25.ConclusionIn this study, the optimal cutoff value of the MMG predictive peak effort dyspnea justifying the percutaneous mitral dilation is 33.5mmHg, above the cut point proposed by American Guidelines
Ideologised foreign policy and the pragmatic rationale: The case of Algeria under Houari Boumedienne, 1965-1978.
The role of ideology in foreign policy making and implementation has been a subject of study by international relations specialists, especially during the period of the Cold War. The study of Algerian foreign policy under President Houari Boumedienne rule (1965-1978) makes a good
case study because of the particular role that ideology played in the making and implementation of foreign policy during this period. Other studies on Algeria's foreign policy have not directly addressed ideology and pragmatism as themes. The majority of these studies covered only parts
or aspects of this period, not taking it as a subject of their total focus.
This study investigates the role ideology has played in the making and implementation of Algeria's foreign policy under President Houari Boumedienne's regime (1965-1978). It assesses the factors behind the ideological stances of the regime as well as the underlying causes behind the pragmatic foreign policy postures that the leadership adopted at that time.
The study is divided into nine chapters. Chapter one presents a critical review of literature and outlines the research methodology adopted. Chapter two traces the historical background of the pre-Boumediennist era. Chapter three concentrates on the study of the state-level of analysis, it focuses on the domestic aspects of the Algerian decision-making process and seeks to give an
account of the ideological influences on Algeria's economic policy. Chapter four looks into President Houari Boumedienne's policy-making process towards the Maghrib. Chapter five is devoted to Algeria's position on inter-Arab politics, including the Palestinian Question. Chapter
six is a thorough analysis of Algeria's oil diplomacy. Chapters seven and eight examine Algeria's interaction with the Third World and its posture between East and West, respectively. The last chapter provides us with an insight into the impact of ideology on Boumedienne himself and on his decision making. This study believes that President Houari Boumedienne's ideological proclamations and pragmatic motivations were blurred. Although some policy
actions appeared to be ideologically motivated, they were, in fact, taken because they were considered to be in the best interest of the state and the regime in power.
The study is based on a documentary analysis of available material in Arabic, French and English. This has been supplemented with a number of interviews with personalities who were close to President Houari Boumedienne
