On Assessing the Performance of LLMs for Target-Level Sentiment Analysis in Financial News Headlines
The importance of sentiment analysis in the rapidly evolving financial markets is widely recognized for its ability to interpret market trends and inform investment decisions. This study delves into the target-level financial sentiment analysis (TLFSA) of news headlines related to stock. The study compares the performance in the TLFSA task of various sentiment analysis techniques, including rule-based models (VADER), fine-tuned transformer-based models (DistilFinRoBERTa and Deberta-v3-base-absa-v1.1) as well as zero-shot large language models (ChatGPT and Gemini). The dataset utilized for this analysis, a novel contribution of this research, comprises 1476 manually annotated Bloomberg headlines and is made publicly available (due to copyright restrictions, only the URLs of Bloomberg headlines with the manual annotations are provided; however, these URLs can be used with a Bloomberg terminal to reconstruct the complete dataset) to encourage future research on this subject. The results indicate that the fine-tuned Deberta-v3-base-absa-v1.1 model performs better across all evaluation metrics than other evaluated models in TLFSA. However, LLMs such as ChatGPT-4, ChatGPT-4o, and Gemini 1.5 Pro provide similar performance levels without the need for task-specific fine-tuning or additional training. The study contributes to assessing the performance of LLMs for financial sentiment analysis, providing useful insights into their possible application in the financial domain

Poverty Dynamics of Female-headed Households in Pakistan: Evidence from PIHS 2000-01 and PSLM 2004-05
The paper attempts to empirically test a naïve version of what is rather stylistically termed as “feminisation of poverty”, using the sub-sample of female -headed households (FHHs) from two household surveys in Pakistan. Although, the database is constrained by quality factors and small sample size, the following findings add to the richness of current research in this area: (a) The numerical incidence of poverty among households headed by females is less than that for all households in the country, at the national, urban and rural level for both the years. This can be traced to the finding that more than 70 percent of households headed by females receive remittances, (b) The incidence of poverty among FHHs during the period 2000-01 to 2004-05 did not decline as fast as it did for mixed households, nationwide. In urban areas, it did not decline at all, (c) Among the determinants of poverty of FHHs, illiteracy, dependency and rural residence exacerbate poverty, while remittances domestic and/ or foreign reduce poverty, (d) The dynamics of incidence of poverty among FHHs during the period indicated that Illiteracy as the factor exacerbating poverty became less important in 2004-05. Moreover, residence in rural areas was also a weaker factor in determining the incidence of poverty. By far the most notable contribution in reducing the incidence of poverty was self-employment in agriculture in 2004-05.

A Multi-Ray Channel Modelling Approach to Enhance UAV Communications in Networked Airspace
In recent years, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, has significantly surged across civil, military, and commercial sectors. Ensuring reliable and efficient communication between UAVs and between UAVs and base stations is challenging due to dynamic factors such as altitude, mobility, environmental obstacles, and atmospheric conditions, which existing communication models fail to address fully. This paper presents a multi-ray channel model that captures the complexities of the airspace network, applicable to both ground-to-air (G2A) and air-to-air (A2A) communications to ensure reliability and efficiency within the network. The model outperforms conventional line-of-sight assumptions by integrating multiple rays to reflect the multipath transmission of UAVs. The multi-ray channel model considers UAV flights’ dynamic and 3-D nature and the conditions in which UAVs typically operate, including urban, suburban, and rural environments. A technique that calculates the received power at a target UAV within a networked airspace is also proposed, utilizing the reflective characteristics of UAV surfaces along with the multi-ray channel model. The developed multi-ray channel model further facilitates the characterization and performance evaluation of G2A and A2A communications. Additionally, this paper explores the effects of various factors, such as altitude, the number of UAVs, and the spatial separation between them on the power received by the target UAV. The simulation outcomes are validated by empirical data and existing theoretical models, providing comprehensive insight into the proposed channel modelling technique
The Complete Muhammad Ali

An honest, balanced portrayal of Ali, the book includes voices that have been omitted from other books. It charts Ali's evolution from Black Nationalism to a universalism, but does not discount the Nation of Islam and Black Nationalism's important influence on his intellectual development. Filipino American author Emil Guillermo speaks about how "The Thrilla' In Manila" brought the Philippines into the 20th century. Fans of Muhammad Ali, boxing fans, and those interested in modern African American history and the Nation of Islam will be fascinated by this biography by an accomplished American author.Intro -- DEDICATION -- INTRODUCTION -- The Curious History of an Icon -- CHAPTER 1 -- CHAPTER 2 -- CHAPTER 3 -- CHAPTER 4 -- CHAPTER 5 -- CHAPTER 6 -- CHAPTER 7 -- Did the Secret Government Fear a U.S. Muslim/Overseas Muslim Alliance? -- CHAPTER 8 -- CHAPTER 9 -- The Break Between the Prophet and his Disciple -- CHAPTER 10 -- CHAPTER 11 -- CHAPTER 12 -- The GOAT (Greatest Of All Time): Ali or Louis? -- CHAPTER 13 -- The Nation of Islam, the Mob, Showdowns in Canada and Sonny Liston -- CHAPTER 14 -- CHAPTER 15 -- The Taunts: Marketing or Racism? -- CHAPTER 16 -- CHAPTER 17 -- CHAPTER 18 -- CHAPTER 19 -- Boxing and the Brain -- CHAPTER 20 -- Ali's Feet -- CHAPTER 21 -- Mr. Dick -- CHAPTER 22 -- CHAPTER 23 -- The Opening Ceremonies, November 2005 -- CHAPTER 24 -- December 2005, Las Vegas -- CHAPTER 25 -- CHAPTER 26 -- June 16, 2004 -- CHAPTER 27 -- CHAPTER 28 -- CHAPTER 29 -- Aix-en-Provence -- CHAPTER 30 -- Ali as a Black Nationalist -- San Francisco, January 2004 Black Liberation Book Fair -- CHAPTER 31 -- January 31, 2004 -- CHAPTER 32 -- October 2005, Chicago -- CHAPTER 33 -- Why Ali remained with Elijah instead of following Malcolm -- CHAPTER 34 -- CHAPTER 35 -- February 4, 2006, Oakland, California -- CHAPTER 36 -- Like Zeus Descending from Mount Olympus -- CHAPTER 37 -- CHAPTER 38 -- Tuesday, February 28, 2006, New York -- CHAPTER 39 -- Bigger Than Boxing -- CHAPTER 40 -- Tribes Gallery, New York, April 2006 -- CHAPTER 41 -- June 2006, Louisville, Kentucky -- CHAPTER 42 -- CHAPTER 43 -- CHAPTER 45 -- Bad Company -- CHAPTER 46 -- Coxson, A Very Charming Rogue -- CHAPTER 47 -- Ali and the largest embezzlement scheme in Wells Fargo history -- CHAPTER 48 -- CHAPTER 49 -- "Lonnie is a stabilizing force."-Harry Belafonte -- October 29, 2006 -- CHAPTER 50 -- Abdul Rahman -- CHAPTER 51 -- CHAPTER 52 -- CHAPTER 53How Will Ali Be Remembered? Benchmarking Large Language Models for Target-Based Financial Sentiment Analysis
Sentiment analysis is vital for understanding market dynamics and formulating informed investing strategies, especially in
volatile financial conditions. This study advances target-based financial sentiment analysis (TBFSA) by rigorously evaluating
the efficacy of Large Language Models (LLMs) in zero-shot and few-shot learning contexts. We compare cutting-edge
generative LLMs, such as ChatGPT-4o, ChatGPT-4, ChatGPT-o1, DeepSeek-R1, Llama-3-8B, Gemma-2-9B, and Gemma2-27B, with conventional lexicon-based tools (VADER, TextBlob) and discriminative transformer-based models (FinBERT,
FinBERT-Tone, DistilFinRoBERTa, Deberta-v3-base-absa-v1.1). Our analysis utilizes a newly curated dataset of 1,162 manually
annotated Bloomberg news articles, designed explicitly for TBFSA (due to copyright constraints, only URLs are publicly
released, with full news content accessible through a Bloomberg Terminal). The findings indicate that LLMs, particularly
DeepSeek-R1 and ChatGPT variants (especially ChatGPT-o1), outperform lexicon-based approaches and discriminative
transformer-based models across all evaluation metrics, without requiring additional training or task-specific fine-tuning. The
study establishes generative LLMs as a scalable and cost-effective method for target-level sentiment analysis, relieving the
need for expensive, rigorous fine-tuning. The research provides valuable insights, enabling institutions to use unstructured
textual data effectively for improved real-time risk assessment, portfolio management, and algorithmic trading
Design of evolutionary computational intelligent solver for nonlinear corneal shape model by Mexican Hat and Gaussian wavelet neural networks
In this study, an integrated computational intelligence algorithm is implemented for the numerical treatment of the two-point boundary value problems that arise in the nonlinear corneal shape (NCS) model through the exploitation of wavelet neural networks including Mexican-Hat (MHWNNs) and Gaussian-wavelet (GWNNs)
through global genetic algorithms (GAs) then hybridization with local sequential quadratic programming (SQP) solvers, i.e. MHWNNsGAs, GWNNs-GAs, MHWNNs-GA-SQP, and GWNNs-GA-SQP respectively. The GWNNs and MHWNNs are applied to calculate the mean squared error of mathematical modeling of the proposed problem through objective functions while optimization of the fitness functions is initially conducted with an efficiency of global search GAs and then the efficacy of local search technique SQP for fine-tuning. A comparison of the proposed solutions of MHWNNs-GAs, GWNNsGAs, MHWNNs-GA-SQP, and GWNNs-GA-SQP solvers with a reference solution of Adam’s method shows that the proposed schemes have better accuracy, stability, efficiency consistency on an independent number of runs analyzed through complexity analysis and different statistical operators
Revealing the quasiparticle electronic and excitonic nature in cubic, tetragonal, and hexagonal phases of FAPbI3
The development of three-dimensional (3D) hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites has sparked much interest because of their rich light-harvesting capabilities in solar cells. However, the understanding of the electronic and optical properties, particularly the excitonic shifts upon structural phase transition with temperature in these materials, is not fully clear. Here, we report the accurate description of electronic and optical properties of mostly studied FAPbI(3) across the cubic-tetragonal-hexagonal phases, using the relativistic GW method and Bethe-Salpeter Equation (BSE), including the spin-orbit coupling effects. Our GW calculations reveal that the bandgap values vary from 1.47 to 3.54 eV from the room temperature cubic phase to the low temperature hexagonal phase. Our optical analysis shows that excitonic peaks are blue-shifted, and exciton binding energies estimated by the model BSE approach increase from 74 to 567 meV going from the cubic to hexagonal phases. Our results may have important impacts on the practical uptake of hybrid perovskite based solar cells under different climatic conditions. (c) 2022 Author(s).
