What do time and space represent in respect to the "ancient" object? What is the author's task relating to the archaeological area design? This contribution aims to make a reflection on these themes starting from the ancient-future dyad which determines the relationship of past evidence the value of which is recognized in a shared manner, with a phenomenal perception based not solely on knowledge, but also on the discovery of what is not achievable by pure scientific investigation obtained by the use of discipline tools designated to study such phenomena. In Addition to the assumption of the interdependence relationship between the ancient world and the author, especially in regard to the critical exercise of the design and its congruence with the life expectancy of the object, stands the subjective-existential component which is expressed through an intentional “sensitive acting”, not always controllable with rational purposes. An attempt at conciliation aimed to avoid acting too harshly on individuality is the awareness that one must feel transported into a "becoming in the amidst", as Deleuze and Guattari note, achieving a mediated position that manages to review one's limits and boundaries, to the point of being de territorilized. . With these premises, this section dedicated to the designs developed in the archaeological area as part of the activities carried out with last year's summer school/design workshop in Canosa di Puglia comes to a beginning

Innovating in Design and Packaging: Implications for the Environment

In recent years we are facing a growing attention paid by governments, organizations and companies on environmental issues. Academics have studied the role of different marketing innovations in leading to positive consequences for the environment. Among the four, innovation in product design and packaging has been regarded by the marketing literature as the starting point for many companies which intend to follow a path towards sustainability in their innovation activities. However, little is known on the specific EBs that could be achieved by the product design and packaging innovation. In this respect, the present study aims to shed light on the environmental contribution driven by innovation in product design and packaging in achieving environmental benefits, through an empirical analysis of the latest available Community Innovation Survey in Portugal related to the period 2012-2014. We run four logistic regression models on manufacturing companies where environmental benefits are a function of innovation in product design and marketing. Results show that the introduction of a product design and packaging marketing innovation yields environmental benefits, specifically, product recycling benefits and extended product life. Companies are called to consider introducing a product design and packaging innovation as it could represent a first meaningful step towards sustainabilit

Conquest of organicity within the Liège's 19th-20th century serial-linear tissues

The formation of Liège tissues shown below -which to a quick look of the title may seem contradictory in its behavioral logic- actually shows the unique ability of Walloon culture to acquire an appropriate organicity in the progressive formation of aggregates born between the 19th and the first decades of the 20th century. Unlike the behavior that occurs in other urban realities, especially in those which are very large and in the metropolises -where expansions are implemented through extensive land and road plans- extra moenia growth is here rebuilt with the analysis of five districts: Bressoux, Guillemins -Fregnée-Avroy, Angleur, Longdoz, S. Leonard (of which only the first two will be analyzed) shows a formative mechanics based on the dialectical binomial , which explains the phenomenon produced between the initial structuring (the result of a 'Conscious activity limited to the action of individuals), and the subsequent completion, symptomatic of a marked criticism expressed by collective action that leads to a gradual maturation of aggregates. In fact, all the examined cases testify, in the founding phase, a prevailing and voluntary action proposed by some individuals who build their house linearly along the pre-existing routes (see the very serial and dilated structure of the routes: Rue S. Leonard and Rue Vivegnis in the district of Saint Leonard, Quai Orban and Rue du Beau Mur in the Longdoz neighborhood, Quai de Rome and Rue Sain Gilles in the Guillemins neighborhood, Rue d’Amercoeur and Rue Sous l’Eau in the Bressoux neighborhood), followed by the next initiative to neatly structuring each one of them, up to acquire the consciousness which is not a simple set of elementary aggregates, but an higher degree entity is defined: precisely the neighborhood which must have a proper autonomy and must relate in a complementary manner to the entire urban organism. Autonomy -and not self-sufficiency- means also be aware to "compose" an organized arrangement of the blocks that include the residences, but also to plan the productive-work activities that ensure the necessary organicity. Therefore appear industries that become -together with the special buildings (churches, schools, universities, office buildings, etc.) that have gradually grown to polarize the tissue- "self-conscious" regulation systems by which every urban district entity conquers its autonomy

The paper offers some remarks on the topic of the Conference in December and tries to look on a number of critical issues that cross transversally the expectations of both disciplines. The recall to some concepts that examine the complex issue that often sees the two different “practices” debate common themes, but separately -especially in defining analysis tools and project objectives that contribute qualifying, dialectically, the development of the contemporary urban systems–, it highlights the problems that appear in the work of both, whether in its own disciplinary autonomy, whether in the reciprocal relationship. It appears, then, of fundamental importance to acquire knowledge and equip yourselves with a common base, a substratum of means and aims adequate to the disciplinary codes of urban planning and architecture, so to avoid contradiction and achieve a balanced complementarity relationship. Starting, clearly, from the of reality and sharing the interpretative principles in order to build a scientifi c-cultural horizon participated in the defi - nition of the dynamics that explain the phenomenal reality today. Understanding of the reality that in an integrated form, albeit with the necessary disciplinary autonomy, aims to open a different “perspective of common sense” enabling to formulate, if nothing else, “questions” shared in an interdisciplinary perspective
