An algebraic Petri Nets emulator
No full textPetri Nets (PN) are a consolidated formal model for distributed systems. Classical PNs however are inadequate to model structural changes in systems' lifecycle. Many different attempts to face this issue have lead to lot of PN extensions, of particular concern are those matching the so called "nets within nets" paradigm. We present an alternative to this paradigm rigorously based on classical SP EC-inscribed nets, which have a sound algebraic initial semantics. Even if inspired by the same principles, and sharing most of the goals, our approach builds on a uniform framework and permits consolidated techniques to be exploited. Reachability analysis of time basic Petri Nets: a time coverage approach
No full textWe introduce a technique for reach ability analysis of Time-Basic (TB) Petri nets, a powerful formalism for real time systems where time constraints are expressed as intervals, representing possible transition firing times, whose bounds are functions of marking's time description. The technique consists of building a symbolic reach ability graph relying on a sort of time coverage, and overcomes the limitations of the only available analyzer for TB nets, based in turn on a time-bounded inspection of a (possibly infinite) tree-tree. The graph construction algorithm has been automated by a tool-set, briefly described in the paper together with its main functionality and analysis capability. A running example is used throughout the paper to sketch the symbolic graph construction. A use case describing a small real system - that the running example is an excerpt from - has been employed to benchmark the technique and the tool-set. The main outcome of this test are also presented in the paper. Ongoing work, in the perspective of integrating with a model-checking engine, is shortly discussed
An extension of the interpreter pattern to define domain-parametric rewriting systems

The ideais simply associating each term of a language, eitherterminal or non-terminal, with a correspondingclass provided with a suitable simplify() method.Reducing a term to a normal form is thus performedthrough a series of recursive calls to such a method.The main weakness of this approach is that it does nottake into account similarities existing among differentdomains, thus enforcing programmers to pollutegeneric and domain-specific rules. The resulting codeif often wordy, hard to maintain, non-reusable. In thispaper we adapt the Interpreter pattern so that a cleanseparation between generic (common to differentdomains) and domain-specific rules is possible. Thenew pattern significantly helps design even complexrewriting systems. A running example which refersto a generic Logical domain is used throughout thepaper. An application to High Level Petri nets analysisis sketched. Without any loss of generality we refer toJava as representative of a large class of languages
Austen(s) on the Screen: An intertextual reading of Becoming Jane, Miss Austen Regrets, and her Biographies
No full textThe cult of Jane Austen has extended well beyond literary manifestations and criticism, into the realm of the cinema. Besides all the filmic adaptations of Austen's novels and the whole series of Austen-themed adaptations, the famous English writer has become the protagonist of two recent biographical films: Becoming Jane (2007) and Miss Austen Regrets (2010). These two cinematic attempts at portraying Austen's life for the screen investigate two different periods of her life and appear to be very different in their approach. Beside making use of published material about the author such as biographical accounts, letters and memoirs, both try to reinvent the writer's life, as well as re-imagine and give voice to some of the most crucial and formative periods of her life. Austenian critics and enthusiasts recognize the fact that Austen is a notoriously problematic figure, whose biography brims with gaps and hazy details. In order to contribute to the ongoing debate on the biographical information on Jane Austen's life, this essay aims to outline the ways in which the cinematic medium has helped re-imagine the life of the author, and to assess whether such representations have opened up new perspectives or have merely recovered and recycled older, and already familiar, materials
A preliminary study on the morphological and release properties ofhydroxyapatite–alendronate composite materials
No full textInhibition of osteoclasts by bisphosphonate is one strategy to be explored in order to avoid a revision
surgery. The purpose of this preliminary work is to synthesize hydroxyapatite–alendronate (HA–ALN) composites
as carrier for ALN that could improve its site specific activity. HA–ALN composites were prepared by
the co-precipitation method. Process parameters such as HA:ALN w/w ratio (1:1, 5:1 and 10:1) and HA
incubation times (6, 24, 48 and 72 h) were evaluated. Morphological, physical–chemical characterization
and biocompatibility tests were performed. TEM and SEM analyses confirmed ALN precipitation as fine
network onto HA. The results of physical–chemical characterization confirmed the presence of ALN in the
composites and its interaction with HA. ALN content resulted between 60% and 80% in the HA:ALN 5:1 and
10:1 ratios composites. ALN release reached 80% from HA–ALN 10:1 composites. Biological tests revealed
that complexation with HA increased ALN biocompatibility by three times. These preliminary results demonstrated
that HA–ALN composites could be considered a carrier to control ALN release

Inclusion of information about the author and his work in Venice will enable us to address the publication of the book in the wider context of the Venetian printing activities of the time. The treatise is intended for Italian readers and represents one of the first works in contrastive linguistics for the Spanish-Italian language pair. First published in 1553, the treatise went through four subsequent editions, each coming with modifications. While this paper concentrates on the very first edition – the only one written in both Spanish and Italian – later additions are also discussed. As will be seen, subsequent editions give evidence of Ulloa’s interest in providing better versions of the original publication through more precise wording and inclusion of useful information. Importantly, his ultimate goal was not only to assist the user, but also to prove his own proficiency
P. R. Moore-Dewey's "Pregiudizio e Orgoglio": An Italian Re-Make of Austen's "Pride and Prejudicce"
No full textVirtually since its publication in 1814, Jane Austen's most famous novel, Pride and Prejudice, has enjoyed great success and has been the object of countless re-workings, re-mediations and adaptations on global scale. This essay aims at discussing a special instance of this phenomenon: an Italian re-make entitled Pregiudizio e Orgoglio (“Prejudice and Pride”), and written by Austen enthusiast and admirer, P.R. Moore-Dewey (pseudonym of Patrizia Murreddu). Appeared in Italy in 2012, to coincide with the bicentenary celebrations of its model and source, this title constitutes a genuine literary effort that deserves the attention of Austen enthusiasts, fans, and also scholars for its many merits, in particular that of being an intricate patchwork of quotations and, thus, a thoroughly post-modern work.
In this essay, I intend to examine Pregiudizio e Orgoglio's emblematic significance by outlining the numerous aspects that make it such a noteworthy adaptation of Austen. In particular, it is my intention to analyze the change of perspective adopted by the author, who decided to re-write Austen's tale through the point of view of Mr. Darcy and his sister Georgiana. Moreover, it is my intention to look at some of the many intertextual references present in Moore-Dewey's work (taken both from the whole Austen output, and from many other “classic” or “canonical” English writers) and consider the impact of such references and quotations on the reading experience. Finally, I will consider the extensive use of paratextual devices, which contribute to define this reworking a particularly relevant literary manifestation
