    INDONESIA: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh ketidakpercayaan terhadap keberhasilan yang telah diraih pebelajar bahasa dalam kompetisi debat bahasa Arab tingkat ASEAN di Islamic Science University of Malaysia 2018, atau pebelajar bahasa dalam kompetisi debat bahasa Arab tingkat internasional di Doha - Qatar. 2018, karena tidak semua orang bisa menguasai debat dengan mudah dan cepat, dan perlu strategi khusus, banyak latihan. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: 1) Mendeskripsikan strategi yang digunakan oleh peserta didik yang berhasil dalam kompetisi debat. 2) Meningkatkan kontribusi pembelajaran debat terhadap kompetensi peserta didik. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan studi kasus. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan dari hasil sebagai berikut: Pertama, strategi pembelajar yang sukses dalam kompetisi debat ada dua jenis, 1) Strategi pembelajaran Debat berupa Inventarisasi Strategi Pembelajaran Bahasa, 2) Strategi Debat, yaitu: (1 ) strategi organisasi, (2) strategi pembangunan kembali,) 3) strategi klarifikasi dan detail, (4) strategi komunikasi, (5) strategi argumen, (6) strategi untuk bekerja dalam kelompok. Kedua, pembelajaran debat telah berkontribusi meningkatkan tiga kompetensi pembelajar (kompetensi linguistik, komunikatif dan budaya) lebih cepat secara bersamaan, dengan dua aspek utama: 1) memperoleh materi, 2) menyajikan pidato. ENGLISH: This research is based on a lack of confidence in the success achieved by language learners in the Arab debate competition at the ASEAN level at the Islamic Science University of Malaysia 2018, or language learners in the Arab debate competition at the international level in Doha - Qatar 2018, because not everyone can master debate easily and quickly, and it needs To a special strategy, numerous practices. Therefore, this study aims to: 1) Describe the strategies used by the successful learners in a debate competition. 2) Enhancing the contribution of debate learning to the competence of the learner. In this study, the researcher used the qualitative approach and the case study. This study concludes from the following results: First, the strategies of successful learners in the debate competition are of two types, 1) Debate learning strategy in the form of an Strategy Inventory for Language Learning, 2) Debate strategy, which is: (1) an organization strategy, (2) a rebuilding strategy,) 3) a strategy for clarification and detail, (4) a strategy for communication, (5) an argument strategy, (6) a strategy for working within groups.     Metacognitive Skills in Writing Essays Using Scaffolding Techniques of Arabic Language Education Students of Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University

    Purpose - The purpose of this article is to explain the application of scaffolding techniques in helping students write in Arabic so as to achieve integrated, coherent, and cohesive criteria. This research aims to explore how scaffolding techniques can support the development of metacognitive skills in writing an essay. Design/methodology/approach - This article uses a qualitative method with a descriptive design. The research instruments used include observation and interviews, and the data were analyzed using interactive analysis. Findings/results – The results showed that scaffolding techniques made it easier for students to organize ideas, especially in writing more effectively in the introduction section. And presenting the main points of the discussion in detail, as well as synthesizing the ideas presented in the introduction and the main points in a lesson. Originality/value - This article emphasizes the importance of scaffolding techniques in helping students develop thinking and writing skills systematically and comprehensively, which is rarely discussed in depth in the context of learning to write essay Arabic.     Symbolic meaning analysis of Kesandingan ritual in Probolinggo

    Kesandingan, one of the rituals in Probolinggo, East Java, is a cultural phenomenon that mingles with religious elements of society. It is something sacred and mystical that parents do when a toddler (an infant under three years old) experiences heat illness for days, tends to be fussy, cries a lot, and cannot sleep at night. This research aims to explain the process of symbolic communication of kesandingan ritual and to understand the symbolic meaning behind the ritual. It is a descriptive-qualitative study through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data analysis uses a qualitative-naturalistic technique. The result demonstrates that the symbolic communication process of kesandingan ritual in Mentor, Sumberasih, Probolinggo, comprises seven series: burning incense, wiping incense smoke on the child’s face, giving the child holy water to drink, wiping the child with floral water, preparing food, making a wish on the child’s bed, and distributing food.     The curriculum has laid a strategic position in the education process as it is the basis of the education process system. Ahmad Fuad Effendy is one of the leading Arabic language teaching activists who have a great effort in deploying and renewing Arabic teaching in Indonesia. He is the founder of the Federation of Arabic Language Teachers a member of the Board of Trustees of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Center for Arabic Language and has a long experience in the field of Arabic teaching. This study aims to raise the perspective of Ahmad Fuad Effendy in the social foundation in the Arabic curriculum because it is considered a basis that is very concerned when developing an educational curriculum. Researchers use a qualitative approach with biographical study techniques. The data was taken from articles and books written by Ahmad Fuad Effendy both in Arabic and Indonesian in the development of Arabic teaching curriculum and from interviews. Data analysis was carried out through 1) data condensation, 2) data presentation, and 3) withdrawal and verification of conclusions. The researchers came to the conclusion that analyzing the needs of the community and employment in Arabic language and literature was important when developing a curriculum, especially to formulate curriculum goals to increase the effectiveness of the curriculum

    Analysis of Al-‘Arabiyyah Lil Hayah books as teaching material from the perspective of Brian Tomlinson and Hitomi Masuhara’s Theory

    Teaching materials are crucial in the learning process, especially in Arabic language acquisition. "Al-'Arabiyyah Lil Hayah" serves as a reference guide for new students enrolled in the Special Program for Arabic Language Development (PKPBA) at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, providing a structured approach to enhance Arabic language skills across various academic disciplines. This study analyzes the book through the lens of the theory of different levels of teaching materials proposed by Brian Tomlinson and Hitomi Masuhara. Utilizing a literature study with a qualitative approach, data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, which includes data condensation, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the four volumes of "Al-'Arabiyyah Lil Hayah" largely align with the recommendations of Tomlinson and Masuhara at basic, intermediate, and high levels. However, certain gaps remain, notably the absence of a comprehensive comprehension approach in Volume 1 and a deficiency in extensive reading and listening activities in Volumes 2 and 3. Additionally, Volume 4 lacks real-world professional language use materials, such as newspapers and research reports, which are essential for high-level learners. These shortcomings highlight a disconnect between the theoretical framework and the practical needs of students. Consequently, this research underscores the need for future studies to conduct a more thorough analysis of the suitability of the content, learning activities, and instructional approaches utilized in "Al-'Arabiyyah Lil Hayah," ensuring they effectively address the specific needs and characteristics of students at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang

    Acquisition of Arabic as a second language in early children in Daarut Tahfidz Lil Athfal Malang

    It is believed that memorizing the Qur’an would be able to improve the acquisition of a second language, especially Arabic language, particularly for early childhood. This is because children have quite sharp hearing, so they quickly acquire Arabic language as their second language. The language acquisition is done by listening and kinesthetic methods. For this purpose, the study aims to describe the process of acquiring Arabic in early childhood at Daarut Tahfidz lil Athfal Malang. Researchear applied descriptive qualitative research and case study methods. Data obtained by observation and interviews. The results showed that learning activities to memorize the Qur’an can accelerate language acquisition in early childhood who previously had not been able to pronounce sentences perfectly. At the opening and closing of the lesson, the teacher in the class always reminds the mufrodat (vocabulary) that has been delivered, so that it will strengthen their memory in Arabic language. The research is expected to provide an overview of the importance of providing Arabic language learning from an early age in order to strengthen Islamic teachings from an early age

    This study assessed the items quality of the Test of Arabic as a Foreign Language (TOAFL) conducted at Sultan Syarif Kasim State Islamic University (UIN) Riau, including the questions’ validity and reliability, difficulty level, and discriminating power. It used the descriptive quantitative method. The data were collected by tests and documentation, and then analyzed using SPSS 25. Regarding question validity, it was found that 35 items (25%) were valid, and 105 (75%) items were invalid. Meanwhile, the reliability score was 0.856. while judging from the level of difficulty, it was found that the easy category included 40 items (28.57%), the medium category included 56 questions (40%), and the difficult category included 44 questions (31.43%). In terms of discriminating power, 36 questions (25,71% were in the excellent category, 21 questions (15%) were good, and 83 questions (59,29%) were considered in the bad category

    Speaking skills are the ability to convey ideas logically and systematically with language rules that are appropriate to the appropriate communication context. The importance of mastering Arabic language skills among students, especially in Islamic higher education, is evident in the reality on the ground. The curriculum in Islamic universities includes Arabic language courses in programs other than Arabic language education. This demonstrates that even students who are not majoring in Arabic education are familiar with Arabic language courses and the content of Arabic language learning. The purpose of this study is to determine the ability of Arabic speaking skills in Islamic colleges and indicators that improve Arabic speaking skills. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative, namely by describing the data that has been obtained through the data collection process. The results of the study indicate that the ability of students in Islamic colleges is included in the category of being able and having the competence to speak Arabic, but the obstacle faced is the need for a supportive environment to speak Arabic. The most basic indicators of Arabic speaking skills are the first is the individual factor, the second is the environmental factor
