Getting Things Done: The Eelco Way

    No full text
Eelco Visser (1966-2022) was a leading member of the department of Software Technology (ST) of the faculty of Electrical Engineering Mathematics, and Computer Science (EEMCS) of Delft University of Technology. He had a profound influence on the educational programs in computer science at TU Delft, built a highly successful Programming Languages Group from the ground up, and used his research results to develop widely used tools and services that have been used by thousands of students and researchers for more than a decade. He realized all these successes not just alone, but in close collaboration with a range of people, who he convinced to follow his lead. In this short reflection, I look back at his achievements, and at the way in which he worked with others to bring ambitious ideas to successful reality

"Part of the in-depth and practical Pattern Recognition series, Practical Surgical Neuropathology, 2nd Edition, by Drs. Arie Perry and Daniel J. Brat, helps you arrive at an accurate CNS diagnosis by using a pattern-based approach. Leading diagnosticians in neuropathology guide you from a histological (and/or clinical, radiologic, and molecular) pattern, through the appropriate work-up, around the pitfalls, and to the best diagnosis. Almost 2,000 high-quality illustrations capture key neuropathological patterns for a full range of common and rare conditions, and a "visual index" at the beginning of the book directs you to the exact location of in-depth diagnostic guidance"--Publisher's description.Revised edition of: Practical surgical neuropathology : a diagnostic approach / [edited by] Arie Perry, Daniel J. Stay, Live and Participate: Towards a new urban regeneration method for foreign ethnic enclaves in Chinese cities, take Guangzhou as an example

    No full text
In the past four decades, China’s reform and opening up has made the country increasingly connected to the process of globalization. And as globalization continues to evolve, more and more people and other elements are beginning to participate in this process. Therefore, a large number of foreigners, especially some individuals and small merchants (Fig.1), come to this once closed country to find job and business opportunities (Fang & Liang, 2010). Due to the needs of work and business characteristics, many of them choose to long or short live in some Chinese cities. Some foreigners-inhabited areas have begun to appear in Chinese cities like Korea town in Beijing and African enclaves in Guangzhou in the recent 20 years which lead to a certain degree of ethnic residential differentiation and social segregation (Zhao & An, 2017). In addition, their settlement and informal business are also facing the challenges from the process of urbanization. Therefore, the author will conduct a theoretical research of this phenomenon in the graduation project, and meanwhile select the African enclaves in Guangzhou as a case for empirical research. What are their living conditions and what specific challenges are they facing? How should cities protect them and improve the quality of their living environment? Therefore, the focus of this study will be exploring how to make these foreigners better stay, live and participate in local social life that based on understanding the status quo and the needs of stakeholders. Using the community and urban space they live in and emerge as the carrier, it will have a specific spatial implementation design for these urban spaces from the perspective of urban regeneration. In the end, a series of plans and designs will put together to make a new urban regeneration method that could be applied to other Chinese cities with the same problems for attracting more foreigners to settle in China and integrate well into the local social environment

The Acehnese ornament documentation: a study of ornament elements of Rumoh Aceh of Ibrahim Hasan / Mirza Irwansyah ... [et al.]

    No full text
Rumoh Aceh, Acehnese traditional house, has its original ornament to be preserved. Currently, the existence of ornaments in Aceh houses has begun to be threatened since the declining number of Aceh houses. In addition, the replacement of ornaments on the replica of Aceh houses in Taman Ratu Safiatuddin is quite limited. This paper aims to observe the essential or basic forms of ornaments of Rumoh Aceh elements through collecting data by field observation and tracing as one of the attempts in preserving Acehnese ornaments digitally. The data are traced and analyzed using AutoCad 2019 and Google SketchUp Pro 2019. The data reveals four basic forms of wall ornaments of Ibrahim Hasan’s Rumoh Aceh: squares, rectangles, circles, and triangles. These basic forms are rooted in floral and geometry forms and are used in every Rumoh Aceh. This digital documentation model is proposed to increase interest and make it easier for the next generation, both the general public and construction workers, to study, reconstruct, and develop Acehnese ornaments
