Cognomina in -ianus Derived from Cognomina
No full textIn this paper, I discuss Latin cognomina ending in -ianus derived from cognomina, a formation attested for instance in Priscianus and Severianus, derived from Priscus and Severus. The main part of the exposition consists of an inventory of all cognomina of this type known to me, divided into sections according to the types of cognomina from which the cognomina in -ianus have been derived. The paper also includes observations on cognomina in -inus and on agnomina of slaves and freedmen in -ianus derived from cognomina. I conclude the paper with observations on the chronology of the cognomina in -ianus. Unlike cognomina in -ianus derived from nomina (Aemilianus, Fulvianus, etc.), which are known already from the Republican period, cognomina in -ianus derived from cognomina seem to be attested only from the about the middle of first century AD onwards.Peer reviewe

Multicriteria analysis under uncertainty with IANUS - method and empirical results
No full textIANUS is a method for aiding public decision-making that supports efforts towards sustainable development and has a wide range of application. IANUS stands for Integrated Assessment of Decisions uNder Uncertainty for Sustainable Development. This paper introduces the main features of IANUS and illustrates the method using the results of a case study in the Torgau region (eastern Germany). IANUS structures the decision process into four steps: scenario derivation, criteria selection, modeling, evaluation. Its overall aim is to extract the information needed for a sound, responsible decision in a clear, transparent manner. The method is designed for use in conflict situations where environmental and socioeconomic effects need to be considered and so an interdisciplinary approach is required. Special emphasis is placed on a broad perception and consideration of uncertainty. Three types of uncertainty are explicitly taken into account by IANUS: development uncertainty (uncertainty about the social, economic and other developments that affect the consequences of decision), model uncertainty (uncertainty associated with the prediction of the effects of decisions), and weight uncertainty (uncertainty about the appropriate weighting of the criteria). The backbone of IANUS is a multicriteria method with the ability to process uncertain information. In the case study the multicriteria method PROMETHEE is used. Since PROMETHEE in its basic versions is not able to process uncertain information an extension of this method is developed here and described in detail
IANUS am FiF und darüber hinaus: Die Bedeutung natur- und ingenieurwissenschaftlicher Friedensforschung für die TU Darmstadt
No full textIANUS steht seit 30 wechselhaften Jahren für natur- und ingenieurwissenschaftliche
Friedensforschung im Austausch mit den Sozial- und
Geisteswissenschaften. Seit Januar 2018 ist IANUS ein Teil des Forums
interdisziplinäre Forschung. Das FiF stellt das Dach, unter dem einige
Aspekte der bisherigen IANUS-Arbeit weitergeführt werden sollen.
Insofern das FiF nicht selbst wissenschaftlich arbeitet oder ein inhaltliches
Programm verfolgt, besteht das gemeinsame Dach in der administrativen
Zusammenarbeit und dem Gedanken der Interdisziplinarität.
Insofern IANUS von weitreichenderen Ambitionen geprägt ist, kann es
unter dem gemeinsamen Dach derzeit nur auf sehr kleiner Flamme weiterarbeiten.
Freilich ergeben sich andererseits auch neue Perspektiven.
Und wenn sich diese Perspektiven fruchtbar entwickeln lassen, würde
ein erneuertes IANUS wesentlich zur internationalen Sichtbarkeit des
FiF als Ausweis einer verantwortungsbewussten Forschungskultur an
der TU Darmstadt beitragen.
Was war IANUS und wofür steht es? Was ist IANUS heute – was kann
und will es? Was könnte ein erneuertes IANUS werden – wie kann sein
friedenspolitisch ausgerichteter wissenschaftlicher Anspruch zukünftig
für das FiF und die TU Darmstadt wirksam werden? Diesen drei Fragen
wenden sich die folgenden Abschnitte zu – und feiern somit, was nach
10 Jahren FiF, 30 Jahren IANUS und 140 Jahren TH/TU Darmstadt im
Wandel der Forschungskulturen möglich war, ist und wird
