Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Role of management control in small and medium enterprises performance assurance

The emergence and development of small and medium enterprises has been and continues to be a driving force for the remarkable economic progress, influencing and accelerating economic growth through more efficient use of resources. Characterized by flexibility, mobility, innovation and capacity to adapt, SMEs have continued to play an important role in economic and social life of any country, positioning itself in the steadily growing economy. Preserving and bracing the role of SMEs in the harmonious development of economy in general and especially to the Romanian economy can be achieved through management control. Management control should intercede in the process of taking decisions and influence the optimal operation of small and medium enterprises. It seeks to control the ability of management to create added value and influence stakeholders in applying the practice of concrete actions to reduce operating costs. During the current businesses period, the companies are operating in an unstable environment which is unpredictable in time and space and distorting the information. At the same time, it is considered that the main engine for creating jobs in Europe and to preserve and revive the economy, is represented by small and medium enterprises.management control; creativity; SME

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Budget - a perfect tool for performance evaluation health system?

As in any field, and the health system, it is necessary to know the path to follow, step which involves developing a budget of income and expenditure and the subsequent budgetary control. Theoretically, content and methodology of developing a budget of income and expenses are based on the same principles universally applicable, but the complexity of the work undertaken leads to the distinction between two types of budgets or medical office budget and the budget of public hospitals. Subjecting attention budgetary practice in connection with the work carried out funding sources in the health system, we note a reversal of principles, namely, not expenses are those that generate future benefits but rather predictable revenues allowed a certain level of expenditure which put questioned the role of budget performance evaluation in health care

Paradoxically, while the economic crisis has had an impact on many economic sectors worldwide automotive industry has become the most important sector of the economy emerging Europe. For Romania, the automotive industry has become a major contributor to achieving the export sector, and major automakers find a place suitable for the manufacture of auto parts cheap, near markets and assembly firms. Analyzing correlations results - total revenue and profitability results - consumed resources profitability note that the values of a variable are in direct sense, increasing the values of the other variable, which means that the two variables are correlated with each other and in one case and in the other, and the probability chance of obtaining a test value "t" is insignificant

Starting from the idea that the use of multi-criteria analysis of performance within the hospital system allows a more accurate validation of employment, compared to the current methodology and seeking correlations between scores practiced economic efficiency and technical competence for all hospitals analyzed we see that there is a correlation between these values which suggests that hospital management's performance is a delusion because subordanarea different and multiple units of the health system vis-à-vis how separate assessment of skills and management capabilities make it virtually impossible able to generate management solutions. The aim of our research is to demonstrate that in any normal system, and therefore in the health, environmental factors acting in a correlate between them

    Customs duty or duty ?

The topicality of the study “The concept of a customs debt” is useful to the substantiation of customs policy as a component of commercial community policy and of domestic fiscal policy, so that the customs tax should provide the three functions: fiscal, protectionist and negotiation. The efficiency and transparency of implementation could be partially compromised by the current artificial legislative parallelism maintained between the directly applicable Romanian and community legislations. In the last years no less than four customs codes and three implementation regulations have succeeded
