    GROWTH AND YIELD OF WHEAT AS INFLUENCED BY IRRIGATION LEVELS AND GIBBERELLIC ACID

    A Thesis Submitted to the Faculty of Agriculture Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE (MS) IN AGRONOMYThe experiment was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka during the period from November 2011 to March 2012 to find out the growth and yield of wheat as influenced by irrigation levels and gibberellic acid. BARI Gom-21 (Shatabdi) was used as a test crop of this study. The experiment comprised of two factors; Factors A: Irrigation (4 levels)- I0: No irrigation i.e. control condition; I1: Irrigation at crown root initiation (CRI) stage (18 DAS); I2: Irrigation at pre-flowering stage (45 DAS) & I3: Irrigation at CRI and pre-flowering stage and Factor B: Gibberellic acid (3 levels)- G0: No GA3 i.e. control condition; G1: 100 ppm GA3 & G2: 200 ppm GA3. The experiment was laid out in Split Plot Design with three replications. In case of irrigation, at 50, 60, 70, 80 DAS and harvest, the tallest plant (48.26 cm, 61.63 cm, 76.21 cm, 84.69 cm and 92.36 cm) was recorded from I3 and the shortest plant (42.82 cm, 50.63 cm, 63.25 cm, 70.88 cm and 78.10 cm) from I0. The highest number of filled grain spike-1 (30.76) was recorded from I3, whereas the lowest number (24.49) from I0. The highest grain yield per hectare (3.93 ton) was recorded from I3, while the lowest grain yield (2.95 ton) from I0. The highest straw yield per hectare (4.88 ton) was recorded from I3, again the lowest straw yield (3.83 ton) from I0. For gibberellic acid, at 50, 60, 70, 80 DAS and harvest, the tallest plant (49.24cm, 59.99 cm, 74.40 cm, 83.23 cm and 89.85 cm) was observed from G2, again the shortest plant (42.08 cm, 51.30 cm, 63.71 cm, 72.29 cm and 79.30 cm) from G0. The highest number of filled grain spike-1 (30.43) was found from G2, again the lowest number (26.08) from G0. The highest grain yield per hectare (3.94 ton) was observed from G2, whereas the lowest grain yield (3.13 ton) from G0. The highest straw yield per hectare (4.60 ton) was recorded from G2, whereas the lowest straw yield (4.20 ton) from G0. Due to interaction effect of level of irrigation and gibberellic acid at 50, 60, 70, 80 DAS and harvest, the tallest plant (54.04 cm, 68.58 cm, 84.11 cm, 93.39 cm and 98.05 cm) was observed from I3G2, while the shortest (39.92 cm, 46.76 cm, 57.79 cm, 66.08 cm and 75.67 cm) was recorded from I0G2. The highest number of filled grain spike-1 (34.47) was recorded from I3G2, while the lowest (22.40) was found from I0G0. The highest grain yield per hectare (4.41 ton) was found from I3G2, again the lowest grain yield (2.85 ton) from I0G0. The highest straw yield per hectare (5.40 ton) was observed from I2G2, again the lowest straw yield (3.56 ton) from I0G2.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

    La liberté syndicale est indispensable à l’institution syndicale. Au Bangladesh, les dispositions qui protègent déjà ce principe restent inopérantes dans la confection. Les autorités doivent pouvoir s’appuyer sur un cadre législatif capable de promouvoir la syndicalisation dans le secteur. Pour les auteurs, ce cadre devrait mobiliser les compétences et ressources complémentaires des différents acteurs en présence (État, industriels locaux, syndicats et marques internationales) et les amener à s’engager et agir sur le long terme pour améliorer la situation des relations professionnelles dans l’industrie de la confection au Bangladesh, à la fois sous l’angle socio-économique et sous l’angle politique
