Agape e giustizia. Intervista a Luc Boltanski
Dialogo con Luc Boltanski sul tema dell'amore e dell'agape come concetti critici per la società contemporanea
Agape and authority: Beyond paternalism and autonomy
The essay refers to the evolving concept of agape in the sociological debate, placing it in relation to a study by Sennett (2006). More specifically, the paper focuses on paternalism and autonomy as two forms of “authority without love” and possible deviations of agapic action
The shape of the Galactic halo with Gaia DR2 RR Lyrae. Anatomy of an ancient major merger
We use the Gaia DR2 RR Lyrae sample to gain an uninterrupted view of the Galactic stellar halo. We dissect the available volume in slices parallel to the Milky Way’s disc to show that within ∼30 kpc from the Galactic centre the halo is triaxial, with the longest axis misaligned by ∼70◦ with respect to the Galactic x-axis. This anatomical procedure exposes two large diffuse overdensities aligned with the semimajor axis of the halo: the Hercules-Aquila Cloud and the Virgo overdensity. We reveal the kinematics of the entire inner halo by mapping out the amplitudes and directions of the RR Lyrae proper motions. These are then compared to simple models with different anisotropies to demonstrate that the inner halo is dominated by stars on highly eccentric orbits. We interpret the shape of the density and the kinematics of the Gaia DR2 RR Lyrae as evidence in favour of a scenario in which the bulk of the halo was deposited in a single massive merger event
Actual or virtual habitats? Commentary to “Manual for monitoring species and habitats of EC interest (Directive 92/43/CEE) in Italy: habitats”
Actual or virtual habitats? Commentary to “Manual for monitoring species and habitats of EC interest (Directive
92/43/CEE) in Italy: habitats”. This is a letter sent recently to the authors of the “Manuals for monitoring
species and habitats of EC interest (Directive 92/43/CEE) in Italy: habitats”. Critical comments are raised
about the description of Apennine beech forests with Taxus baccata and Ilex aquifolium (Habitat 9210*) and the
methods proposed for forest measurement and sampling. The described scenario about this forest habitat is
considered unrealistic
Un concept karstique de la sociologie: L’amour comme socialité
This essay analyzes love as sociality in the history of the social sciences, highlighting its public dimension. While the first part is dedicated to the classics of sociology, the second part focuses on the thoughts of contemporary scholars and closes with a critical proposal based on overabounding and the priority of the benefit of others. The paper shows how love is a karstic water rivulet that for decades has gone through sociological reflection, sometimes flowing underground, but often on the surface as a fundamental element in public social life
A One Health Strategy to Tackle Obesity
The prevalence of obesity and related health problems has increased drastically in recent decades. By focusing on the phenomenon within the context of changing relationships between humans, other living species, and the environment, the article opens the way to a One Health perspective for understanding and tackle obesity. The study presents empirical data based on interviews with patients and doctors in a hospital highly specialized in the treatment of metabolic diseases and their associated pathologies. Among the results of the research is that a significant part of the patients interviewed have internalized norms, attitudes and behaviours associated with a state of marginalization and isolation. These findings emphasize the crucial yet often overlooked role of meaningful interpersonal relationships at the meso-level in the obesogenic environment
O amor e as experiências quotidianas.
The starting point of the paper is that social interaction is anchored in the world of practical logic (Bourdieu 2003). On this base, authors aim to demonstrate that love, before being an interpretative category, is a “practical knowledge” that can be observed in dayly life of social actors. Two case studies support the analysis. The first case study concerns the school of arts and crafts of Santa Maria de Catamarca in Argentina which, through a creative rivisitation of calchaquì culture in training and in handicraft production, became a flywheel for new daily relationship models between genders and cultures. The second case study concerns the specific phenomenon of suspended goods, born in Naples with the practice of leaving a paid coffee at the bar for a person in need. The phenomenon spread becoming global on the web and assuming different shapes: suspended spending, suspended book, suspended paid permits at work, etc.. Both cases show that love is a practical action that can be addressed to unknown people, even to ungrateful persons, and can be generative of communitie
More on monitoring forest habitats: reply to Cutini et al. 2016 e Angelini et al. 2016
More on monitoring forest habitats: reply to Cutini et al. 2016 e Angelini et al. 2016. The authors reply to the clarification notes by Angelini et al. ([1]) and by Cutini et al. ([4]) concerning the “Manuals for monitoring species and habitats of EC interest (Directive 92/43/CEE) in Italy: habitats” ([2]). They discuss about the role of ecosystem monitoring, the inclusive/exclusive feature of the 9210* habitat, the lack of information on forest spatial and chronological structure. The authors conclude fostering a synergic approach between vegetation and forest science experts in order to provide new and more advanced tools for monitoring, analysis, conservation and management of forest ecosystems in a changing environment
