The energetic characterization of solar-control environments
Despite the increasingly pressing regulations in the energy sector (EPBD recast, law 90/2013 and the consequent decree 162 of 2015), which push towards policies and financial measures to promote buildings with almost zero energy, the quality of the internal environment remains one of the critical parameters on which to pay more attention in view of a consistent evaluation of the Nzeb building. Solar Energy System in A Small Town Constituted of A Network of Photovoltaic Collectors to Produce Electricity for Homes and Hydrogen for Transport Services of Municipality
The supply of Energy resources to the villages located in inland and hilly regions, is disadvantageous both for the domestic and transport purposes. Because these conditions may produce the depopulation of the inland zone, a smart way to ease this inconvenience is to produce in situ electrical Energy for houses and fuel for cars, getting them from an available Energy source in the village, as the solar Energy. The only technology to produce hydrogen ecologically and to minimize CO2 emission, is through RES (Renewable Energy Sources). The solar energy plants must use the surfaces of buildings instead of occupying other green areas useful for agricultural activities. On this basis, we propose in this paper a demonstrative project for a village in Sardinia, consisting of photovoltaic collectors connected in a network, to provide electricity to homes and hydrogen for transport purposes
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Performance Analysis of a Floating Photovoltaic System and Estimation of the Evaporation Losses Reduction
Our research aims to achieve dual-positive effects in the presented study by raising photovoltaic (PV) panels over the water surface. With this, target experiments were primarily conducted to evaluate the efficiency increments of the PV panel while reducing its operating temperature through passive convective cooling obtained by raising it over water. The following objective was to estimate the reduction in water evaporation due to the shading effect induced by the panel placed inside the same basin. The performance of two PV panels was analyzed, one used for tests, the other as a reference. The characteristic curves were determined under the local environmental conditions of Cagliari, Italy. The true temperature reduction and efficiency gain calculations of panel P1 due to water cooling was achieved via the measured temperatures and calculated efficiencies of panel P2 at environmental conditions. The water height inside the basin was constantly monitored and maintained at approximately 7.5 cm below panel P1, which covered about 17% of the total water surface area. The presence of water underneath P1 leads to its efficiency increment on average by 2.7% (absolute) and about 17.22% (relative). At the same time, temperature of panel P1 dropped by 2.7 °C on average. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Computational Model For The Estimation Of Thermo-Energetic Properties In Dynamic Regime Of Existing Building Components
The guidelines of the European community towards a low-carbon economic society identify one of the most important scenarios in the energy efficiency of existing buildings. The discrepancy between the requirement and availability of free heat (endogenous heat, solar radiation) in certain hours of the day and operating conditions, makes the steady-state hypothesis generally inappropriate. In particular, the oscillating component of the transmitted flow, compared to the average temperature difference, is regressive in winter and dominant in summer. From this it follows the reliability of the stationary forecast models in winter and the need for dynamic forecast models in summer. The dominance of the continental climate in the EU, compared to the Mediterranean one, led to the actual delay in the development of dynamic models, especially at a regulatory level. In this paper, a methodology for assessing the dynamic properties of a building component is evaluated. The methodology, based on heat transmission equations implements a numerical model for existing building components whose input data can be obtained from experimental measurements. The developed model has been used to estimate the energetic and thermal behaviour of a building envelope subjected to energy efficiency measures
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
