Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

AN INNOVATIVE INSULATING SYSTEM FOR DUAL SEISMIC AND THERMAL MITIGATION OF MASONRY STRUCTURES
The proposed work presents the results of an experimental investigation aimed at assessing the performances of unreinforced masonry units retrofitted with an innovative insulating system. The system consists of a reinforced mortar applied on an insulating EPS panel, with the double function of thermal insulation and seismic retrofit. The system has been developed by the Italian company Pontarolo Engineering SpA and studied by the research group at CIRI Building and Construction of University of Bologna. The experimental investigation aimed at assessing the improved shear resistance of masonry panels equipped with the system under study. Diagonal compressive tests were carried out on a series of panels realized with hollow masonry bricks. The results provided an improved response under shear action of the retrofitted masonry panelsfor non-structural infills in RC frames. The investigations proved the effectiveness of the innovative thermal and seismic retrofitting system in improving both shear strength and deformation capacity with respect to the unreinforced traditional masonry units
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Experimental study on the shear behavior of FRCM strengthened masonry panels.
Innovative strengthening solutions, such as Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM), are becoming increasingly diffused for the retrofitting of existing masonry structures with the aim of reducing the seismic vulnerability of these construction typologies. In recent years, many studies have demonstrated the suitability of these materials in enhancing the shear capacity of masonry walls and improve the overall structural behavior, avoiding fragile collapse mechanisms. In the present work, six diagonal compression tests were performed on unstrengthened and FRCM strengthened masonry panels to evaluate the improvements attributable to the presence of the FRCM systems. Two different bidirectional basalt grids were applied to the masonry samples, with and without mechanical anchorages. The tensile and bond properties of the chosen FRCM systems were investigated through laboratory tests. The objective was, indeed, to compare the performances of two textiles, characterized by different densities, and to investigate the role of mechanical anchorages. The experimental results confirmed the efficiency of the FRCM strengthening systems in improving the shear behavior of masonry panels. The FRCM strengthened samples experienced a considerable strength increase and less brittle failure mechanisms. The roles of both the mortar matrix, the fiber grids and the mechanical anchorages were highlighted by analyzing the onset of cracking and the failure propagation within the samples
In-Plane Shear Behavior of Stone Masonry Panels Strengthened through Grout Injection and Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Matrices
Existing stone masonry buildings, constituting a significant portion of historical city centers, suffered often severe damages during seismic events. Traditional and innovative strengthening techniques can be applied to restore or enhance the structural capacity of these construction typologies. The objective of the present work was to evaluate the improvement given by different strengthening procedures to the shear behavior of stone masonry elements. In particular, an experimental campaign on stone masonry samples was carried out, in which the specimens were strengthened through different Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) systems and grout injection. Non-destructive sonic tests were performed before and after the strengthening procedure to determine the efficiency of the grout injection. Then, the samples were subject to diagonal compression test with the objective of evaluating the influence of the different FRCM strengthening systems on the shear behavior, in terms of stiffness, load bearing capacity and failure mode. Comparisons between experimental results showed, on the one hand, a good correlation between the quality of the grout injection, analyzed through sonic tests, and the shear capacity of the retrofitted samples. On the other hand, the presence of the reinforcing fibers influenced mainly the post-peak behavior and determined a more ductile failure mode
