Il design per l'educazione nel terzo settore

    No full text
The critical framework of education through Design-based practices, applied through recognized learning-by-doing methods, increasingly defines STEAM education models that are expanded by adopting enabling technologies such as various digital fabrication tools. The paper discusses a specific case study: an educational program consisting of eight project workshops that successfully combined Education, Research, and Community Engagement in collaboration with local authorities and social organizations. This program aimed to develop digital and manual skills to combat educational and material poverty in Ostia Ponente

Service design for the public sector. Challenges and opportunities to design for the complexity of public endeavour

This contribution examines the application of Service Design within the public sector, drawing on the challenges posed by the so-called wicked problems to understand its potential and limitations. By critically reflecting on the unique constraints and complexities of government services and the differences with their commercial counterparts, the scope is to identify possible trajectories for future research and practice. While Service Design integrates multiple perspectives and works at different scales, responding to external and internal disturbances, it requires a comprehensive knowledge base that considers wicked problems’ properties such as demos, fragility and antifragility, degree of wickedness, public formation, plurality of values and approaches to Service Design for the public sector. Recognising these limitations and opportunities, the contribution invites a more nuanced understanding of Service Design in the public sector to decipher and address societal challenges

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Il design è una rete

    No full text
The text provides a comprehensive reflection on the role of design in connecting people, heritage, and processes, highlighting its ethical dimension in the context of the New European Bauhaus and the Palermo convention. Design is appreciated not only for its aesthetic contribution but also for its potential to integrate and communicate knowledge, serving as a bridge between different disciplines. It emphasizes the societal impact of design, particularly in relation to social innovation and cultural heritage, underscoring Italy and Sicily's rich cultural legacies as evidenced by their numerous UNESCO sites and works of art. Furthermore, the text advocates for a design approach that is user-centered and democratic, encouraging the participation of local communities in the design process to address contemporary challenges such as renewable energy and sustainable food networks. The text also moves away from iconic design towards a more systemic project that encompasses everyday policies. It concludes by emphasizing the dynamism of design research and the importance of fostering connections that lead to positive societal and environmental outcomes, drawing on historical and contemporary philosophical perspectives on empathy and community
