Equity Snapshot: University of Michigan – Ann Arbor

    No full text
Public flagship universities were established to provide an excellent education to their states’ residents and are therefore well-positioned to enhance social and economic mobility within their states. Yet in many cases, too few low-income students and students of color have access to these elite colleges and the opportunities they provide. This analysis of racial and socioeconomic equity at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor (U-M Ann Arbor) finds large and growing gaps in college access, as well as troubling gaps in college completion, by race and socioeconomic status. To serve as a catalyst for mobility and equity in the state of Michigan, U-M Ann Arbor must do a better job enrolling and graduating low-income students and students of color.Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP

The LHCb hadron calorimeter (HCAL), designed at IHEP, is a sampling device made out of steel and scintillating tiles readout by wavelength-shifting fibers. A total of 52 modules have to be produced to built up the two halves of the HCAL structure. IHEP took responsibility for the tiles production, assembling and testing of the modules and for precise machining of the optics components

The IUHEP U-70 accelerator is a proton synchrotron with strong focusing which provides protons accelerated up to 76 GeV. The synchrotron ring electromagnet consists of 120 units with a total circumference of 1483.6 m. A 100 MeV proton linac is used as an injector for the synchrotron. The cycle time of the proton synchrotron is 8.7 s. The author discusses the particle beams of the IHEP accelerator and the physics programme
