Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

No full textEn France, les troubles du neurodéveloppement (TND) affectent 510 à 15% des enfants. Le repérage précoce des TND revêt une importance cruciale en raison de la plasticité cérébrale maximale dans les trois premières années de vie de l’enfant. Le repérage précoce doit permettre aux enfants d'accéder à des interventions précoces qui favorisent l’optimisation de leur trajectoire neurodéveloppementale. Cette thèse s'est tout d’abord penchée sur le vécu des parents d'enfants atteints de TND et à leur qualité de vie. Les parents ont décrit un parcours complexe, marqué par des délais d'attente pour le diagnostic qui ont des répercussions significatives sur leur qualité de vie, des difficultés d'accès aux soins, ainsi qu'un véritable parcours du combattant face aux défis liés à la scolarisation de leur(s) enfant(s). Le fait d’être accompagné dans leur parcours par leur médecin traitant apparaissait comme un facteur améliorant leur qualité de vie, alors que le délai jusqu’au diagnostic avait un impact négatif sur celle-ci. De manière complémentaire, cette thèse a également étudié le vécu des enseignants. Il est apparu que de nombreuses difficultés identifiées par les parents sont partagées par les enseignants. Parents et enseignants rapportaient un sentiment d’abandon et de solitude pour répondre aux besoins des enfants. Ils partageaient les constats des difficultés de repérage des troubles et les délais pour le diagnostic, les parcours complexes, le manque de soutien et de ressources. Un thème récurrent a été le manque de coordination entre les parents, les enseignants et le secteur des soins. Face au constat qu'aucun outil accessible en pratique courante en première ligne ne permettait de repérer les écarts par rapport à la trajectoire neurodéveloppementale attendue, un groupe d'experts pluridisciplinaire a été rassemblé sous l'égide de la délégation interministérielle à la stratégie nationale pour l'autisme et les troubles du neurodéveloppement. Ce groupe de travail a élaboré une grille de repérage en se basant sur la littérature existante et les outils préexistants, et cette grille est utilisable depuis 2019. Cette thèse a eu pour objectif d'évaluer pour la première fois l’utilisation de cette grille de repérage en population générale en soins primaire. Les résultats obtenus sont en accord avec la littérature existante en ce qui concerne la prévalence attendue des TND aux âges testés et les facteurs associés à l'identification précoce des décalages dans la trajectoire neurodéveloppementale. En somme, cette thèse s'est attachée à explorer l'expérience des parents, des enseignants, et les défis auxquels ils sont confrontés, en mettant en lumière les complexités du parcours de vie des enfants atteints de TND et de leurs familles. Elle s’est attachée à partir de ces constats pour chercher une solution le repérage précoce des TND en utilisant pour la première fois en soins primaires un outil de repérage des TND.In France, neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) affect 10 to 15% of children. Early detection of NDD is of crucial importance due to the maximum brain plasticity in the first 3 years of a child's life. Early detection should allow children to access early interventions that optimize their neurodevelopmental trajectory. This thesis initially focused on the experiences of parents of children with NDD and their quality of life. Parents described a complex journey, marked by waiting times for diagnosis which had significant repercussions on their quality of life, difficulties in accessing care, as well as a challenging journey facing the challenges related to their child(ren)'s schooling. Being supported by their primary care physician seemed to enhance their quality of life, while the delay to diagnosis negatively impacted it. Complementarily, this thesis also studied the experiences of teachers. It emerged that many of the difficulties identified by parents are shared by teachers. Both parents and teachers reported feelings of abandonment and loneliness in addressing the children's needs. They shared observations about the difficulties in identifying disorders, delays in diagnosis, complicated pathways, and a lack of support and resources. A recurring theme was the lack of coordination between parents, teachers, and the healthcare sector. Given the finding that no readily accessible tool existed for frontline use to identify deviations from the expected neurodevelopmental trajectory, a multidisciplinary group of experts was convened under the auspices of the inter-ministerial delegation to the national strategy for autism and neurodevelopmental disorders. This working group developed a detection grid based on existing literature and pre-existing tools, and this grid has been usable since 2019. The purpose of this thesis was to evaluate, for the first time, the use of this detection grid in the general population in primary care. The results obtained align with existing literature regarding the expected prevalence of NDD at the tested ages and factors associated with early identification of deviations in the neurodevelopmental trajectory. In summary, this thesis sought to explore the experiences of parents and teachers and the challenges they face, highlighting the complexities in the life journey of children with NDD and their families. From these observations, it aimed to find a solution for early detection of NDD by introducing, for the first time in primary care, a tool for detecting NDD
