Preserving the electroacoustic music legacy: a case study of the SalMar Construction at the University of Illinois
No full textIn the summer of 2008 the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign acquired the papers of Salvatore Martirano (1927-1995), avant-garde composer, faculty member, and performer. This case study examines how the new electroacoustic compositional techniques present in Martirano's papers and his ground-breaking electronic music instrument, the Sal-Mar Construction, dramatically challenged the archivists to explore access and preservation practices for this unique cultural record. Context plays a key role in the preservation of electroacoustic compositions and instruments, considering that these tend to become ephemeral works of art once the composer ceases to maintain them in working order.This is the author's accepted manuscript of an article published in Notes, the Quarterly Journal of the Music Library Association. Not Just Sheet Music: Describing Print and Manuscript Music in Archives and Special Collections
No full textThe professional literature on archives and music librarianship in theUnited States only tangentially addresses the management of music archival records.Archives and special collections libraries often find print and manuscript music amongsttheir holdings, even if they are not music-specific repositories. Because printed musicmaterial is a proxy for the work and not the work itself, adequate description of thesematerials may require more granularity than archivists customarily provide. Existingstandards for archival description require more work before they will describe musicas easily as they describe text. En la foto, de izquierda a derecha: Alejo Cuervo, Jordi Ojeda y Enrique Corominas (en la mano un ejemplar de “El mundo de Hielo y Fuego”).El encuentro se ha organizado como una actividad paralela de la exposición “Cómics Fantásticos” donde se han expuesto las ilustraciones originales de Enrique Corominas, responsable de las portadas de la edición castellana de la saga de “Canción de hielo y fuego” publicado por la editorial Gigamesh. El autor explicó cómo empezó a trabajar en los libros de George R.R. Martin y la relación con el escritor, además de diferentes anécdotas a lo largo de los años.
Por su parte, el editor Alejo Cuervo presentó el libro “El mundo de Hielo y Fuego” (título original: The World of Ice and Fire), una enciclopedia sobre hechos conocidos y no conocidos de la saga de “Canción de Hielo y Fuego”. Sus autores son George R. R. Martin con la ayuda de Elio Garcia y Linda Antonsson. Fue publicado en Estados Unidos por Bantam Books el 28 de octubre de 2014, y durante la charla se anunció la fecha de publicación de la edición de Gigamesh en castellano: el 8 de mayo de 2015, que contará con la portada interior y exterior de Enrique Corominas.Podéis ver fotos de la presentación en el siguiente álbum:

No full textIn this work Ignacio Cuervo and co-workers have studied different aspects of the transcriptional regulating processes implicated in embryonic stem cell differentiation and in the regulation and dysregulation of cancer cells.
The first experimental study explored a method for the study of transcription of the pluripotency gene Nanog in embryonic stem cells. The design opens up for identifying known and unknown proteins associated with the regulation of Nanog in an active and inactive state by mass spectrometry.
This thesis also studied the role of SUMOylation of a transcription factor, FOXA1, involved in prostate cancer regulation. Cuervo and collaborators identified several factors that have a decreased interaction when FOXA1 is SUMOylated, as STAT3, a transcription factor regulating metastasis progression and cell survival in cancer. This novel link between FOXA1 and the differential interaction depending on SUMOylation could open for new inhibitor studies in prostate cancer.
Finally, Cuervo and co-workers identified a novel function of SENP1 affecting chromatin accessibility through a novel interaction partner CHD3. This study revealed an unexplored link with deSUMOylation, chromatin remodelling, CTCF and SUMO regulation
Menores infractores y la medida de internamiento
No full textTreball Final de Grau en Psicologia. Codi: PS1048. Curs 2013-2014Hoy en día, la sociedad parece estar muy preocupada por los menores, concretamente con aquellos que comenten delitos. Ésta piensa que cada vez son más los menores que cometen delitos y que son más graves. También piensa que la medida más adecuada para estos menores y así reducir la delincuencia juvenil es el internamiento (García, 2010; Fernández, 2009). Por lo tanto, el presente estudio tiene como objetivo analizar el modo en el que afecta conductual y psicológicamente la medida de internamiento en aquellos menores que la cumplen, así como la posible reincidencia de éstos mismos menores. Para ello, se ha realizado una revisión bibliográfica tanto de artículos como de diferentes informes de distintas comunidades autónomas españolas. Los resultados obtenidos a partir de la revisión bibliográfica, han sido que la medida de internamiento presenta un importante impacto negativo sobre la conducta de muchos de los menores, que favorece el desarrollo de consecuencias psicológicas negativas y que produce una elevada tasa de reincidencia en muchos de los menores que cumplen dicha medida (Laan, 2013, Ligero, 2005, Cuervo, 2008, Capdevila, 2005). Por tanto, sería conveniente revisar diferentes aspectos de esta medida para que sea efectiva en la mayoría de los menores infractores.Nowadays, the society appears to be very worried for the minors, specifically those who commit crimes. It thinks that more are more the minors who commit crimes and are more severe. Also the society thinks that the measure more appropriate for these minors and so reduce the juvenile delinquency is the internment (García, 2010; Fernández, 2009). Therefore, the present study have as objective to analyze the way in which affect behavioural and psychologically the measure of internment in these minors that the obey, as well as, the possible recidivism of the same minors. For this, have carried out a literature review of both of articles as different reports from different Spanish regions. The results obtained from the literature review, have been that this measure present a significant negative impact about the behaviour of many of the minors, that favours the development of negative psychological consequences and that the internment produces a high rate of recidivism in the many of the minors that meet this measure (Laan, 2013, Ligero, 2005, Cuervo, 2008, Capdevila, 2005).
