An easy decision-making graphic tool to improve herd level milk yield in a local scale dairy farming system
Several features prevent dairy farms from reaching their full potential milk yield levels. A plurality of methods are available to analyse a farm's yield gap, but in practice, farmers rarely use them to understand their main constraints to production. We propose a simple and graphical approach to tune the limiting (feed-related) or reducing (management-related) factors to evaluate the likelihood of being a high-yielding farm. We gathered data from 32 farms within a local-scale dairy system in Northern Italy. Data regarded milk yield (MY), dry matter intake (DMI), feeding ration's homogeneity index (Hi), feed sorting (Si) index, ration's geometric mean particle length (GMPL), ration digestibility, income over feed cost (IOFC) and MY summer-winter ratio (SWR). Farms were classified according to their MY levels into high (H) and low or medium (L + M), with a 36.7 kg x cow(-1) day(-1) threshold. At an ANOVA model for MY class, H farms resulted in higher IOFC (p < 0.001), GMPL (p = 0.046), DMI (p = 0.006), digestible DM (DDM, p = 0.013), digestible crude protein (DCP, p = 0.011), digestible starch (Dstarch, p = 0.001), and feed efficiency (FE, p = 0.003). At a logistic AIC stepwise regression, the GMPL (odds = 6.528, 95% CI = 1.11-64.2) and DMI (odds = 3.889, 95% CI = 1.43-16.5) favoured farms being classified in the H production class. The nomogram was used to calculate a confusion matrix, achieving an overall accuracy of 0.70, demonstrating its ability to transform predictive models into a graphical, realisable tool

The first version of wireless ZigBee technology show up in 2004's December, with a new standard defined by IEEE 802.15.4 for digital transmission in a short way. This technology goes away advantages side the others, especially because of your low decreasing energy consume and low baud rates. This make the ZigBee an attractive alternative for monitoring projects and remote sensing, where the requirements turn up in a high dimension with the engagement of another technologies, as examples, Bluetooth and WiFi. The present paper approach the development and the implementation of wireless models to connect a microcontroller to a personal computer (PC) composing the Biomedicals Signals Processing System (SPSB). The goal is to monitor and visualizes biosignals in a remote way, in the ambit of first creation of a Didactic Methodology of Biomedical Engineering, going with teach of Biomedical Engineering in the graduation of Electrical Engineering providing the Laboratory of the Biomedical Engineering in the Biomedical Engineering Institute of the Santa Catarina's Federal University (IEB-UFSC). To the elaboration of the wireless communication models are specificity and incorporate two devices of ZigBee OEM Maxstream XBeeTM. One of those communicates via USB with the PC and the other is connected to the microcontroller, ADuC 7026 of the Analog Devices, through the serial interface UART with TX and RX in 115.2 Kbps. Both the XBeeTM models compose together the wireless ZigBee enlace in conformity with the ANATEL 02/93 and 012/96 rules in the 209/00, 305/02 and 365/04 resolutions. The principal results do not show important losses in the information package in a short way and with delay of just 8 ms in the communication for any acceptable distance (up to 30 m) between the ZigBee models. This guaranty the well done and make certain the technology efficiency utilized in wireless transmission adopted for the conditions of this project. The propose of models of wireless transmission in SPSB show up to support about teach in Biomedical Engineering Laboratory with connected ideas with de wireless self technologies, look through the brand new technology innovation in the context of wireless transmission of digital information and credibility of transmitted information in this biomedical application
Effects of extruded corn on milk yield and composition and blood parameters in lactating dairy cows
According to a 2x2 cross over design, fourteen Holstein dairy cows at 99±55 DIM were fed two diets containing 21.5% DM of either ground corn (GC) or extruded corn (EC). Performance and metabolic profile were detected during the third week of each experimental period. DMI and milk yield were not affected by dietary treatments. Milk fat and protein percentage of EC diet were significantly (P<0.10) lower than those of GC diet. Probably the higher rumen degradability of starch from EC thesis modified the synthesis of specific fatty acids leading to a milk fat depression event. Diets did not influence blood parameters, except for lower values of total protein and glucose content in EC diet-fed cows. Results suggested that the dietary inclusion of extruded corn should not be used at the tested level of substitution
