Humayun Kabir (1906-1969)
No full textHumayun Kabir was an influential Indian educationist and politician. He dedicated his life to the field of education, contributing significantly to its development in India. After completing his education at Exeter College, Oxford, where he actively participated in various student activities, Kabir returned to India and became a lecturer at Andhra University. He later held several important positions, including Joint Education Adviser, Education Secretary, and Chairman of the University Grants Commission in Delhi. Kabir's commitment to education led to his appointment as the Minister of Education under the Prime Ministerships of Jawaharlal Nehru and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Kabir's contributions extended beyond his political career. He was an accomplished writer and orator, known for his poetry, short stories, novels, and essays. He also served as the editor of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad's biography, "India Wins Freedom." Additionally, Kabir played a crucial role in drafting the UNESCO 1950 statement titled "The Race Question." Throughout his life, Humayun Kabir was a prominent figure in Indian education and politics, leaving behind a lasting impact on the intellectual and cultural landscape of the nation.

No full textIn the history of South Asian literature in English, Men and Rivers is the third fictional work written by a Muslim author after Rokeya's Sultana's Dream and Ahmed Ali's Twilight in Delhi (1940). Men and Rivers is a literary work of great merit though more research needs to be conducted on the work to appreciate its value by examining various thematic and stylistic features. Through Men and Rivers, Hamayun Kabir conferred on Faridpur literary immortality. I believe the novel will continue to make the district memorable and special to its readers for a very long time
Who wins in a Data Breach? A comparative Study on the intangible costs of Data Breach Incidents
No full textOver the years data breaches have become a status quo due to an attacker’s repeated ability to successfully infiltrate networks. 2015 was no stranger to these cases. Victims included millions of customers of Anthem, BlueCross BlueShield, Experian/T-Mobile, and Office of Personnel Management, all of whom lost confidential data. Needless to say, data breaches have a significant impact on the financial performance and reputation of firms. Collectively, the majority of the previous security studies on breach announcements have used event study methodology. These studies have focused on the change in market value of the company within a few days of the security breach announcements and concluded that there is a negative impact. But what is the impact of negative publicity due to a data breach on an organization’s reputation? How should that be gauged? In this study we compare the financial impact with the reputational damage of data breaches. We performed two event studies: an event study on stock prices and additionally a sentiment event study applied on social media data. In contrast to previous research, shareholders do not react negatively to data breach announcements, whereas the impact on reputation is statistically significant as negative

No full textHumayun Kabir was a humanist and close associate of UNESCO. In 1949, he was involved in a meeting to draft the first UNESCO statement on race, with M.F. Ashley-Montague. This statement was ultimately revised by Julian Huxley, J.B.S. Haldane and others. Kabir’s interests in society and education ultimately led him to becoming India’s education secretary in 1963.

No full textThe internship report was prepared on the topic of “Perspectives on the assessment of audit risk for Bokhteyar Humayun & Co. in Bangladesh”. Audit is the procedure of verifying financial statements of a particular organization that whether they have prepared their statements according to applicable laws & regulations and presented reasonably true information. It is a process that was used since the ancient age of accounting. It is very significant to secure honesty and integrity in the financial sector of any country. Audit has basically three classifications: External, internal and government audit. Auditors have to face some risks and challenges during their audit procedure, these are called audit risks. There are three main categories of audit risks: Inherent risk, Control risk and Detection risk. Based on the risk assessment, auditors give four types of opinions: Unqualified, qualified, adverse and disclaimer. As the author has worked in “Bokhteyar Humayun & Co.” as an intern, he has found that his firm actually faces those three types of risks which are mentioned above. The author has also critically analyzed risk assessment and he has also found some key issues and recommended some solutions for his firm. The author has tried to work as a sincere member of his organization and demonstrated a high level of professionalism during his internship period which has been certified in his “Internship Completion Certificate” in the appendix part

iVision-MRSSD: Multi-Resolution Satellite based SAR Ship Detection Dataset
No full textThis is a comprehensive labeled satellite based SAR ship detection dataset aimed for usage with state of the art deep learning based object detectors. The dataset contains 11,590 images along with the same number of label files. This is a diverse dataset containing images from six different space borne sensors and includes a wide variety of in-shore and off-shore scenes under different conditions. The dataset can be used to train, test and optimize object detection models to achieve high ship detection performance for any SAR sensor and under varying conditions.
