Effects of high-latitude atmospheric gravity wave disturbances on artificial HF radar backscatter
International audienceObservations of HF radar backscatter from artificial field-aligned irregularities in an ionosphere perturbed by travelling disturbances due to atmospheric gravity waves are presented. Some features of the spatio-temporal structure of the artificial radar backscatter can be explained in terms of the distortion of the ionosphere resulting from the travelling disturbances. The distorted ionosphere can allow the HF pump wave to access upper-hybrid resonance at larger distances from the transmitter than are normally observed and can also prevent the pump wave reaching this resonance at close distances. The variation in altitude of the irregularities sometimes results in a significant variation in the elevation angle of arrival of the backscattered signal at the radar implying that the radar "sees" a target moving in altitude. We suggest that this may be evidence of off-orthogonal scattering from the irregularities

THE EXPERIMENTAL DETERMINATION OF VIBRATIONAL TRANSITION MOMENTS FOR -HF AND OC-HF
K. W. Jucks, Z. S. Huang, and R. E. Miller, J. Chem. Phys. 86, 1098 (1987). K. W. Jucks and R. E. Miller, J. Chem. Phys. 86, 6637 (1987).Author Institution: Department of Chemistry, University of IllinoisA new saturation method is employed to determine the vibrational transition moments for the HF stretch in two binary, isoelectronic complexes. Line strength enhancements over the HF monomer value, as a result of hydrogen bonding, are reported. Substantial variation in the vibrational predissociation linewidths, frequency shifts, and well depths between -HF and OC-HF have been Analogous comparisons between the transition moments with these parameters, as well as to , will be presented

(A) Immunoblot analysis of LC3 protein (LC3II conversion, membrane-bound form) in lysates of WT or GCN2−/−MEFs left untreated or treated with HF at concentrations specified for 6 h. β-actin was used as loading control. (B) Confocal microscopy imaging of LC3 protein (punctates in green) in WT (top) or GCN2−/− MEFs (bottom) left untreated or treated with HF (20 nM) for 6 h; nuclei were stained with DAPI (blue). Scale bars, 10 μm. (C) LC3 punctate per cell count in WT or GCN2−/− MEFs (S1 Data). ****P ≤ 0.0001. (D) Immunoblot analysis of LC3 in control or GCN2 siRNA-transfected macrophages treated with HF (20 nM). Data are representative of 1 of 3–4 independent experiments. Terminal suturing of Gondwana along the southern margin of South China Craton : evidence from detrital zircon U-Pb ages and Hf isotopes in Cambrian and Ordovician strata, Hainan Island
This work was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (grants 41472086 and 41272120), “111” Project (B08030), the fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) (CUG2012019240 and CUG2013019137). The first author also acknowledges China Scholarship Council (grant 201208420001) for supporting his research in the University of St. Andrews. Date of Acceptance: 20/11/2014Hainan Island, located near the southern end of mainland South China, consists of the Qiongzhong Block to the north and the Sanya Block to the south. In the Cambrian, these blocks were separated by an intervening ocean. U-Pb ages and Hf isotope compositions of detrital zircons from the Cambrian succession in the Sanya Block suggest that the unit contains detritus derived from late Paleoproterozoic and Mesoproterozoic units along the western margin of the West Australia Craton (e.g., Northampton Complex) or the Albany-Fraser-Wilkes orogen, which separates the West Australia and Mawson cratons. Thus, in the Cambrian the Sanya Block was not part of the South China Craton but rather part of the West Australian Craton and its environs. In contrast, overlying Late Ordovician strata display evidence for input of detritus from the Qiongzhong Block, which constituted part of the southeastern convergent plate margin of the South China Craton in the early Paleozoic. The evolving provenance record of the Cambrian and Ordovician strata suggests that the juxtaposition of South China and West Australian cratons occurred during the early to mid-Ordovician. The event was linked with the northern continuation of Kuungan Orogeny, with South China providing a record of final assembly of Gondwana.Peer reviewe
