Multi-Phase Input-Parallel Output-Parallel Dual Active Bridge with Inherent Current sharing and Optimized Integrated Transformer
Input-Parallel Output-Parallel (IPOP) Dual Active Bridge (DAB) system is proposed for high power applications for its inherent current sharing capability due to insensitivity to current imbalance compared to the paralleling switching device method. An integrated three-phase transformer is proposed, and its total volume and power loss are modelled analytically in terms of dimensions of limbs and primary number of turns; a model for three discrete single-phase transformers is developed as a counterpart. Based on the analytical models, optimization design points are highlighted in terms of efficiency and power density, which appears as the optimum curve of designs. A 22kW 650V/460V 100kHz prototype with efficiency of 97.47% is built to verify the theoretical analysis and models. Specifically, the improved efficiency and power density of the integrated three-phase transformer, compared to the discrete single-phase transformers, is verified in the prototypes

CyberGIS-enabled spatial decision support for supply chain optimization with uncertainty quantification
Spatial decision support systems have made extensive progress on taking advantage of geographic information science and systems (GIS) for the synthesis of geospatial data and analysis, domain-specific knowledge and models, and advanced computing technologies. However, a major challenge revolving around the synthesis remains to systematically quantify uncertainties of complex data, models, and computation. For example, the state of the art of supply chain optimization does not adequately address uncertainty in the context of spatial decision support. This challenge is caused in part by the computational intensity of uncertainty quantification and propagation through optimization models.
This research aims to establish a novel cyberGIS framework for resolving the computational intensity to incorporate uncertainty quantification into spatial decision support. Specifically, the cyberGIS framework seamlessly integrates uncertainty quantification and supply chain optimization modeling into a CyberGIS Gateway application that represents a cutting-edge online cyberGIS environment for users to perform interactive spatial decision-making enabled by advanced cyberinfrastructure. Furthermore, an innovative method combining Bayesian hierarchical modeling with stochastic programming is proposed to explicitly account for spatiotemporal uncertainties in supply chain optimization. The cyberGIS framework and related method are evaluated based on a case study of the biomass-to-bioenergy supply chain optimization at the county level in the United States to resolve the synthesis challenge in multiple spatial decision support scenarios.Submission original under an indefinite embargo labeled 'Open Access'. Licensing of gametogenesis, dependent on RNA binding protein DAZL, as a gateway to sexual differentiation of fetal germ cells
This article contains supporting information online at www.pnas.org/lookup/suppl/doi:10.
1073/pnas.1104501108/-/DCSupplemental.Mammalian oocytes and spermatozoa derive from fetal cells shared by the sexes. These primordial germ cells (PGCs) migrate to the developing somatic gonad, giving rise to oocytes or spermatozoa. These opposing sexual fates are determined not by the PGCs’ own sex chromosome constitution (XX or XY), but by the sexual identity of the fetal gonad that they enter. We asked whether PGCs undergo a developmental transition that enables them to respond to feminizing or masculinizing cues from fetal ovary or testis. We conducted in vivo genetic studies of DAZL, an RNA-binding protein expressed in both ovarian and testicular germ cells. We found that germ cells in C57BL/6 Dazl-deficient fetuses—whether XX or XY—migrate to the gonad but do not develop either male or female features. Instead, they remain in a sexually undifferentiated state similar to that of migrating PGCs. Thus, germ cells in C57BL/6 Dazl-deficient fetuses do not respond to sexual cues from ovary or testis, whereas the earlier processes of germ cell specification and migration are unaffected. We propose that PGCs of both XX and XY fetuses undergo licensing, an active developmental transition that enables the resultant gametogenesis-competent cells to respond to feminizing or masculinizing cues produced by the fetal ovary or testis and hence to embark on oogenesis or spermatogenesis. In C57BL/6 mice, Dazl is required for licensing. Licensing serves as a gateway from the embryonic processes shared between the sexes—germ cell specification and migration—to the sex-specific pathways of oogenesis and spermatogenesis.Howard Hughes Medical Institut
A NONFINITELY BASED SEMIGROUP OF TRIANGULAR MATRICES
A new sufficient condition under which a semigroup admits no finite identity basis has been recently suggested in a joint paper by Karl Auinger, Yuzhu Chen, Xun Hu, Yanfeng Luo, and the author. Here we apply this condition to show the absence of a finite identity basis for the semigroup UT3(ℝ) of all upper triangular real 3×3-matrices with 0 s and/or 1 s on the main diagonal. The result holds also for the case when UT3(ℝ) is considered as an involution semigroup under the reflection with respect to the secondary diagonal. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015

Research on Factors Influencing Individual’s Behavior of Energy Management
abstract: With the rapid rise of distributed generation, Internet of Things, and mobile Internet, both U.S. and European smart home manufacturers have developed energy management solutions for individual usage. These applications help people manage their energy consumption more efficiently. Domestic manufacturers have also launched similar products.
This paper focuses on the factors influencing Energy Management Behaviour (EMB) at the individual level. By reviewing academic literature, conducting surveys in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, the author builds an integrated behavioural energy management model of the Chinese energy consumers. This paper takes the vague term of EMB and redefines it as a function of two separate behavioural concepts: Energy Management Intention (EMI), and the traditional Energy Saving Intention (ESI).
Secondly, the author conducts statistical analyses on these two behavioural concepts. EMI is the main driver behind an individual’s EMB. EMI is affected by Behavioural Attitudes, Subjective Norms, and Perceived Behavioural Control (PBC). Among these three key factors, PBC exerts the strongest influence. This implies that the promotion of the energy management concept is mainly driven by good application user experience (UX). The traditional ESI also demonstrates positive influence on EMB, but its impact is weaker than the impacts arising under EMI’s three factors. In other words, the government and manufacturers may not be able to change an individual's energy management behaviour if they rely solely on their traditional promotion strategies. In addition, the study finds that the government may achieve better promotional results by launching subsidies to the manufacturers of these kinds of applications and smart appliances.Dissertation/ThesisDoctoral Dissertation Business Administration 201
