Images of performing arts and entertainments in the Nectar Ritual Paintings of the Choson period
No full text진나라 육기(261~303)의 존형막선어화론으로도 알 수 있듯이, 전통적으로 그림은 형상을 보존하는 최고의 매체로 인식되어 왔다. 이러한 관점에서 신라의 최치원(857~?)은 그림이 글 보다 낫다(채확승가찰)고 했으며, 고려의 이규보(1168~1241)는 사물을 묘사하는 데는 같은 감관에 의해 체험될 수 있는 형상을 표현 요소로 하는 그림의 효과가 시의 기능을 능가한다고 보았다. 눈으로 볼 수 있는 그림의 실상을 파악하고 마음을 움직이게 하는데 진실로 유익한 것이라고 여겼던 조선조의 세종(재위 1418~1450)은, 『삼강행실도』를 편찬하면서 어리석은 백성이 쉽게 깨닫지 못할까 염려스러워 도형을 함께 수록하니 거리에서 노는 아이들과 골목안의 여염집 부녀자들까지도 쉽게 알기 바란다며 그 취지를 밝힌 바 있다. 시각적으로 형상을 보존하고 유포하는 그림의 공리적 효용성을 표명한 것이다.
이와 같이 사물의 형상을 그림으로 나타낸 화상 중에서도 풍속적 또는 민속적 이미지는 사진이 등장하기 이전 시대의 세속상이나 사회상 등을 직접적으로 보여주는 시각적 기록물로서 매우 중요하다.
As Lu Ji (261-303) of the Western Jin period already affirmed, pictures are widely recognized as the best medium for preserving the shape of objects. Similarly, Silla"s Choe Ch"iwŏn (857~?) said "Drawing is preferable to writing," and Yi Kyubo (1168~ 1241) of Koryŏsaid that when describing an object, the effect of drawings surpassed the function of poetry because of its ability to express shapes experienced through the visual sense.
Also, King Sejong (r. 1418-1450), who believed that drawings that can be seen with the eyes were "truly beneficial" in understanding reality and in moving people"s hearts, said in compiling the Samgang haengsildo that "I was concerned that the simple-minded people wouldn"t comprehend easily, so added shapes in the hope that kids playing on the road and even commoner women living on an alley would easily understand." He was demonstrating the utilitarian use of drawings for public welfare through preserving and spreading the visual aspect of shapes of objects.
Among art pieces that express shapes of objects through drawings, images related to customs and manners are especially important as they serve as detailed visual recordings that show secular and social aspects of the era before photographs appeared. Especially the images of plays and entertainment in the nectar ritual paintings, which deal with Water-Land rituals for the transfer of merit to the deceased, are valuable as visual resources for the Chosŏn Dynasty"s recreation and performance culture, along with the actors performing. What makes them even more valuable is that they deal with subjects that are not even recorded in genre painting of "vulgar customs.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
