He published a number of volumes of poetry, two collections of short stories and two volumes of memoir. He was one of the best known Irish contemporary poets. In 1998 he became the first occupant of the Ireland Chair of Poetry (essentially Ireland\u27s poet laureate). In 2010, he was made a Chevalier de la Legion d\u27honneur, France\u27s highest civil award.

No full textBiography: Writer, poet and playwright Pierre Morency was born in Lauzon, Quebec (Lévis County) in 1942. He obtained his B.A. at the Collège de Lévis in 1963 and his teaching diploma from the Université Laval in 1966. From 1963 to 1968, he taught in Lévis, where he founded and directed the Théâtre étudiant de Lévis (1961-1964). As a storyteller and author of a number of plays and short comedies for Radio-Canada radio, he created more than 200 literary and comedy programs, including Le Repos du guerrier and Bestiaire de l’été.
He published a collection of his poetry, Poèmes de la froide merveille de vivre, which won the Du Maurier Award in 1968. Morency founded a poetry journal Inédits, for which he acted as director (1969-71), and he helped found the poetry journal Estuaire in 1976. A sparkling host, he ran numerous poetry evenings, les Soirées poétiques du Chantauteuil, in Quebec City (1969-1970) and elsewhere in the province. His awards include the 1975 Prix Claude-Sernet (Rodez, France) for the body of his work, the Prix de l’Institut canadien de Québec for the body of his work in 1979, the Prix Québec-Paris in 1988, the Prix Ludger-Duvernay in 1991, and the Prix France-Québec in 1992. In 1993, Morency was made a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la République française.

Ca 2+ -dependent autophagy is enhanced by the pharmacological agent PK11195
No full textThe 1-(2-Chlorophenyl-N-methylpropyl)-3-isoquinolinecarboxamide, PK11195, is a proven enhancer of apoptotic cell death in a variety of cellular models. Recently, we have shown that by targeting the oncogene Bcl-2, PK11195 increases the [Ca ( 2+) ] in the Endoplasmic Reticulum ([Ca ( 2+) ]er) as well as IP3 induced mitochondrial ([Ca ( 2+) ]m) and cytosolic ([Ca ( 2+) ]c) Ca ( 2+) transients in HeLa cervix carcinoma cells. Here, in the same cells, we have investigated PK11195 contribution to models of pharmacologically induced macroautophagy. To do so, we have monitored the pattern of LC3 (the mammalian orthologue of yeast Atg8) distribution and post transcriptional modifications after challenging with Ca ( 2+) -dependent (ATP, Vitamin D3) and independent (Rapamycin and H 2O 2) stimuli for autophagy execution. We found that PK11195 plays a pro-autophagy role if associated with ATP and Vitamin D3 to be ineffective if co-incubated with Rapamycin and H 2O 2. Notably, Bcl-2 deletion abolished PK11195 effects thus suggesting a selective way of action against the oncogene. By these means, PK11195 is proposed as facilitator of Ca ( 2+) mediated autophagy and tool to ascertain the Bcl-2 contribution to the onset and unfolding of this essential catabolic process for cellular homeostasis
