Research data - the effect of high-pressure torsion on irradiation hardening of Eurofer-97

    No full text
It contains the raw and processed data collected as a part of the study which resulted in the manuscript 'The Effect of high-pressure torsion on irradiation hardening of Eurofer-97'. The data was collected and processed at the University of Oxford. Matlab is required to view most of the data. Some files are in Microsoft Excel format and Igor format. Data processing and plotting scripts are all included. The scripts are all written in Matlab

Glacial landforms around the boundary between the central and northern Black Forest, south-western Germany

    No full text
The aim of data collection was the reconstruction of the chronology and extent of the Late Pleistocene glaciation around the boundary between the central and northern Black Forest. This research has been undertaken as part of the 'Chronology of the last glaciation of low mountainous areas in Central Europe' project (funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG)). This project is granted to Felix Martin Hofmann (see https://gepris.dfg.de/gepris/projekt/534739108?language=en, last access: 13 June 2025). As a first step towards comprehensive glacier reconstruction, glacial geomorphological mapping according to present-day standard in the field of glacial geomorphology must be undertaken, allowing for the selection of suitable targets for dating campaigns. Previous cirque and moraine mapping led to valuable datasets but the adopted approach for the acquisition of data does not comply with up-to-date approaches in geomorphological mapping. Hence, a mapping campaign was undertaken to critically evaluate previous work on the region of interest to achieve the greatest possible accuracy during mapping. The acquired data represent the base of a manuscript which has been submitted to the Journal of Geomorphology for consideration for publication

Migrations make for ideal storytelling. They play a central role in the thematization of cultural change, the (trans)formation of space, and the constitution of identities, among other areas. Building on narratological approaches to the history of historiography in historical scholarship, we ask how migration stories are told and what specific narrative patterns find a use in ancient studies. After introducing the central concept of historiographic migration narratives, we outline the empirical-reconstructive constitution of collective identities and their correlations with spaces. We then present the contributions in the volume, organized by theme, to conclusively show further prospects for the narratological study of migration historiographies

Parents’ assets and child marriage: are mother’s assets more protective than father’s assets?

    No full text
Child marriage places girls at an increased risk for dropping out of school early, sexually transmitted infections, teenage childbirth, and accompanying childbirth complications, including maternal mortality. The determinants of child marriage are not clearly understood, which hinders efforts to mount effective interventions. This study examined the link between economic resources and child marriage by investigating whether maternal and paternal asset ownership were longitudinally associated with daughters’ child marriage in Ethiopia. Drawing upon household bargaining theory, it was hypothesized that maternal assets would be more protective of daughters’ child marriage than paternal assets. Data for 4,293 girls from the nationally representative Ethiopia Socioeconomic Survey, fielded in 2011 and 2014, were employed. Logistic regression and instrumental variable analyses were used to examine the relationship between transition into child marriage during the study period and maternal and paternal assets, controlling for child-, family-, and community-level characteristics. Results show that a one standard deviation increase in mother’s assets was associated with 37–53% lower odds of daughter’s child marriage whereas a one standard deviation increase in paternal asset holdings was associated with 0–37% higher odds of daughter’s child marriage. Effects were strongest in regions where the dominant mode of marriage payments is bride price. These results suggest that the link between economic resources and child marriage depends on the gender of the parent who owns the resources. This study also highlights the interconnectedness of two targets of the gender equality Sustainable Development Goal—improvement of women’s ownership of assets and the elimination of child marriage—and suggests that the realization of one gender equality target could have implications for other targets.Peer reviewe
