Njegovi spisi jedni su od najutjecajnijih u engleskom govornome području. Sir Hilary bavio se širokim rasponom tema, kao što su tallies, diplomacijom, paleografijom, uređivanjem zapisa, pečatima, ratnim mjerama, i tako dalje. S druge strane, sir Hilary Jenkinson i Theodore R. Schellenberg, nisu dijelili mišljenja u vezi vrednovanja arhivskih zapisa. At the other hand, Sir Hilary Jenkinson and Theodore R. Schellenberg, held different opinions on the subject of the appraisal of archival records. This paper examines their views on the nature of archival records, the reasons for their retention, and the role of the archivist in the appraisal process. It then traces the progrss of their ideas through the subsequent archival discourse on appraisal in order to identify their continued relevance and lasting contribution

Get PDFThis article presents the academic profile of Sir Charles Hilary Jenkinson, who in the first half of the 20th century had major influence on the development of Anglo-Saxon archival thought. The theoretical models and conceptual solutions he suggested have been a subject of academic reflection conducted in different parts of the archival world. The article contains the profile of H. Jenkinson in the context of professional experience, which found its reflection in the archival theory he presented. The text discusses the essential components of concepts and assumptions presented in the Manual of Archive Administration which remains the most famous and recognised book he authored. This article was created based on an analysis of materials which constitute the archival legacy remaining after H. Jenkinson and a review of Anglo-Saxon literature of the subject.Artykuł przedstawia sylwetkę naukową sir Charlesa Hilarego Jenkinsona, który w pierwszej połowie XX w. wywarł istotny wpływ na rozwój anglosaskiej myśli archiwalnej. Zaproponowane przez niego modele teoretyczne i rozwiązania koncepcyjne były i nadal są przedmiotem refleksji naukowej prowadzonej w różnych częściach archiwalnego świata. Artykuł zawiera biogram H. Jenkinsona ukazujący kontekst doświadczeń zawodowych, które znalazły swoje odzwierciedlenie w przedstawionej przez niego teorii archiwalnej. W tekście omówiono kluczowe elementy pojęć i założeń zaprezentowanych w książce Manual of Archive Administration, która pozostaje najbardziej znanym i cenionym dziełem jego autorstwa. Artykuł powstał w oparciu o analizę materiałów składających się na spuściznę archiwalną pozostałą po H. Jenkinsonie oraz przegląd anglojęzycznej literatury przedmiotu
The Great Seal of James II: A Reply to Sir Hilary Jenkinson
No full textThe conventional story of the fate of James II's Great Seal, that he cast it into the Thames in the course of his flight from Whitehall in the early hours of 11th December 1688, was challenged by the late Sir Hilary Jenkinson in an enthralling article in the Antiquaries Journal in 1943. He perceived that in design and size the counterseal used by William and Mary for their Great Seal (1689) is wellnigh identical with that used by James II, except that a figure of Mary mounted on horseback has been crudely intruded into it; the inscription is new. With this in mind he examined the statements of a number of contemporary writers and later historians about what happened to James's Great Seal and, finding a number of discrepancies among them, argued that the conventional story is extremely doubtful, if not false, and that William and Mary made use of James's counterseal—the actual matrix—with comparatively slight alterations. In a final section he noted the resemblance between impressions of both seal and counterseal of James II and those of William III's seal and counterseal (1695), and suggested, with only a slight reservation (‘I am afraid we cannot say with absolute certainty that the actual matrices engraved by John Roettier in 1685 were still in existence in 1702’), that William was now using both of James's matrices. The suggestion appears as a statement of fact, with no reservation, in Sir Hilary's Guide to the Seals in the Public Record Office, 1954.</jats:p
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
