Marsico, G. (2017). Dialogue in Education. In F. Meijers and H. Hermans, The Dialogical Self Theory in Education: A multicultural perspective, Cultural Psychology of Education, 5, (pp. vii-ix), Cham, Switzerland: Springer;
Meijers’ and Hermans’ volume “The Dialogical Self Theory in Education: A multicultural perspective” offers a rich epistemological and empirical elaboration by which to understand the dominant educational discourse as well as to overcome the crisis that affects education in Western countries. The book highlights the complex interplay between educational processes and dialogical construction of identity. Contemporary education’s focus on accountability, competition and standardization constitutes an inherently ambiguous social-political program where education is focused on training to consume instead of learning for living (Szulevicz, May Eckerdal, Marsico, Valsiner, 2016). By applying the Dialogical Self Theory to education, Meijers and Hermans provide the reader with an extensive toolbox for understanding how education could be and should be the terrain for achieving a more sophisticated elaboration of the Self

Dependence tracing techniques for spreadsheets: An investigation
Spreadsheet cells contain data but also may contain formulas that refer to data from other cells, perform operations on them, and render the results directly to show it to the user. In order to understand the structure of spreadsheets, one needs to understand the formulas that control cell-to-cell dataflow. Understanding this cell-to-cell inter-relation or dependence tracing is easier done in visual manners and therefore quite a few techniques have been proposed over the years. This paper aims to report the results of an investigative study of such techniques. The study is a first step of an attempt to evaluate the relevance of these techniques from the point of view of their benefits and effectiveness in the context of real world spreadsheet users. Results obtained from such a study will have the potential for motivating the conception of newer and better techniques, in case it is found that the need for them is still not fully catered.Software Engineerin
Autonomy, Universality and Singularity: Bourdieu, Attridge, and Hermans
What is the ethical value of autonomous literary fiction? Doesn’t literary autonomy lead inevitably to a powerless l’art pour l’art position? In this article we approach these questions through a discussion of Bourdieu’s ideas on the autonomy of the literary field, and we map his shifting position over the years. We argue that Bourdieu’s concept of autonomy may fruitfully be connected with the notion of singularity of Derek Attridge. To conclude, we illustrate the power of this singularity through the concrete literary example of the ‘autonomous’ author Willem Frederik Hermans
