His memory and reasoning remained intact up to the last, and he never left off discussing problems related to science and mainly to ethics in human behavior with his colleagues at the laboratory, which he frequented assiduously

No full textEstudo da genitália externa masculina de duas das cinco espécies conhecidas do gênero oriental Linshcosteus Distant -: L. costalis Ghauri e L. kali Lent & Wygodzinsky -, com realce comparativo para as estruturas que mais diferenças apresentam. O aspecto geral dessas genitálias obedece ao que os autores verificam em trabalhos anteriormente publicados para os demais gêneros da tribo Triatomini da subfamília Triatominae. A morfologia externa, que caracteriza o gênero, é peculiar, devido ao curto comprimento do rosto que apenas atinge ou se aproxima do nível do bordo posterior dos olhos, quando observado o perfil e em posição de repouso, além de insexistir também o sulco estridulatório prosternal.The study of the male genitália of two from the five known species of the oriental genus Linshcosteus Distant -: L. costalis Ghauri e L. kali Lent & Wygodzinsky -, with emphasis on the comparative aspects of the five structures which have shown more differences. The general aspects of these genitalia follow what the authors had observed in previous works published for the other genera of the tribe Triatomini, subfamily Triatominae. The external morphology, which characterizes the genus, is peculiar, because of the short length of the rostrum which only reaches or approaches the posterior level of the eyes, when observed by profile and rest position, besides not existing a stridulatory prosternal sulcus too

No full textRhdnius stali n. sp. was described based on specimens deposited in the Herman Lent Collection of Entomological Collection of Oswaldo Cruz Institute, until now identified as Rhodnius pictipes Stal, 1872 and compared with specimens of R. pictipes proceeding from state of Amazonas and Pará, Brazil. R. stali is related to R. pictipes though distinguished by the total length, 15 to 17 mm male and 16,5 to 19 mm female, the anteocular region 2,5 times larger than postocular region and by the shape of phallic strictures known as: phallosoma, struts, gonopore process and endosoma process

No full textSete espécies da tribo bolboderini, pertencentes aos gêneros Bolbodera, Belminus, Microtriatoma e Parabelminus, duas das quais já encontradas naturalmente infectadas com Trypanosoma cruzi, foram analisadas e comparadas tendo como enfoque oito estruturas da genitália externa dos machos: Processo mediano do pigóforo (PrP), Processo da conjuntiva (PrCj), Extensão mediana da placa basal (EPIb), Processo do endosoma (PrEn), Suporte do falosoma (SPh), Falosoma (Ph), Processo do gonoporo (PrG) e a Vesica (V). Microtriatoma trinidadensis (lent, 1951) e M. borbai Lent & Wygodzinsky, 1979 mostraram um plano estrutural morfológico semelhante a Parabelminus yurupucu Lent & Wygodzinsky, 1979 e P. carioca Lent, 1943 e deferindo nitidamente de Belminus peruvianus Herrer, Lent & Wygodzinsky, 1954 e B. herreri Lent & Wygodzinsky, 1979 e de Bolbodera scabrosa, Valdés, 1910, não só pela ausência como pela forma de determinadas estruturas. Estas observações comparativas confirmam as afinidades entre Microtriatoma e Parabelminus e suas relações com belminus e Bolbodera.Seven species of the Bolboderini tribe belonging to the genera bolbodera, Belminus, Microtriatoma and Parabelminus, two of them found naturally infected with Trypanosoma cruzi, were analysed and compared emphasizing eight structures of the male external genitalia: median process of pygophore (PrP), conjunctiva process (PrCj), pedicel (EP1b), endosoma process (PrEn), struts (SPh), phallosoma (Ph), medium bridge (PrG) and vesica (V). Microtriatoma trinidadensis (Lent, 1951) and M. borbai Lent & Wygodzinsky, 1979 have shown a structural morphological aspect similar to Parabelminus yurupucu Lent & Wygodzinsky, 1979 and P. carioca Lent, 1943 differing clearly from Belminus peruvianus Herrer, Lent & Wygodzinsky, 1954, B. herreri Lent & Wygodzinsky, 1979 and Bolbodera scabrosa valdés, 1910, not only by the absence but by the shape of some structures. These comparative observations confirm the affinity between Microtriatoma and Parabelminus and their relations with Belminus and Bolbodera
