Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Concussions – knowledge and attitudes in football : A quantitative survey study with a crosssectional design
No full textSyfte: Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka kunskapsnivåer och attityder hos fotbollsspelare och tränare gällande idrottsrelaterade hjärnskakningar. Vidare undersökte studien spelares och tränares kännedom om riktlinjer vid idrottsrelaterad hjärnskakning samt vem som anses vara ansvarig för att hantera misstänkta hjärnskakningar i fotbollslag. Metod: Denna studie var en kvantitativ enkätstudie med tvärsnittsdesign. Studien riktade sig till spelare och tränare som var aktiva i olika fotbollsklubbar runt om i Sverige. Data samlades in genom en enkät med delar från Rosenbaums Concussion Knowledge and Attitudes Survey - Student Version, RoCKAS-ST. Enkäten var indelad i sex delar och inkluderade två huvudsakliga utfallsmått: Concussion Knowledge Index (CKI) och Concussion Attitude Index (CAI). Enkäten innehöll även fyra demografiska frågor, två frågor om tidigare hjärnskakning, en fråga om tidigare utbildning om hjärnskakning, en fråga om vem som är den primärt ansvariga personen för att identifiera och hantera misstänkt hjärnskakning samt en självuppskattningsfråga om kännedom gällande riktlinjer vid hjärnskakning. Resultat: 108 deltagare svarade på enkäten 104 deltagare inkluderades i den slutgiltiga analysen. Av de 104 inkluderade var 89 spelare och 15 tränare. Medelvärde för CKI var 19.6 (lägsta poäng 8, högsta poäng 25) och medelvärdet för CAI var 65.6 (lägsta poäng 44, högsta poäng 75). Signifikant resultat visades för att tränare hade högre attitydindex, spelare som tidigare har haft en hjärnskakning någon gång hade högre kunskapsindex, tränare men även personer som tidigare fått utbildning hade bättre kännedom om riktlinjer och i amatörlag angavs tränare som primärt ansvarig för omhändertagande vid hjärnskakning. Slutsats: Studien visade att både fotbollsspelare och tränare generellt har god kunskap och säkra attityder till hjärnskakningar, där tränare uppvisade högre attitydpoäng och bättre kännedom om riktlinjer. Tidigare erfarenhet av hjärnskakning hos spelare var kopplat till högre kunskap och utbildning påvisade bättre kännedom om riktlinjer. Resultaten pekade på skillnader i ansvarsfördelning beroende på tävlingsnivå, där tränare i amatörlag angavs som ansvarig vid omhändertagandet. Aim: The aim of this study was to examine the levels of knowledge and attitudes among football players and coaches regarding sports-related concussions. Furthermore, the study investigated their awareness of concussion management guidelines, as well as who is considered responsible for handling suspected concussions within football teams. Method: This was a quantitative cross-sectional survey study targeting players, coaches, and team staff active in various football clubs across Sweden. Data were collected using a questionnaire that included parts of the Rosenbaum Concussion Knowledge and Attitudes Survey – Student Version (RoCKAS-ST). The questionnaire consisted of six sections and included two primary outcome measures: the Concussion Knowledge Index (CKI) and the Concussion Attitude Index (CAI). It also included four demographic questions, two questions about previous concussions, one about prior concussion education, one about the person primarily responsible for managing suspected concussions, and one self-assessment question regarding awareness of concussion guidelines. Results: A total of 108 individuals responded to the survey; 104 were included in the final analysis. Of these, 89 were players and 15 were coaches or team staff. The mean CKI score was 19.6 (range 8–25), and the mean CAI score was 65.6 (range 44–75). Significant findings included higher CAI scores among coaches and staff compared to players, higher CKI scores among players with a history of concussion, and greater awareness of concussion guidelines among both coaches and individuals with previous education on the topic. In amateur teams, coaches were most frequently identified as the primary person responsible for concussion management. Conclusion: The study showed that both football players and coaches generally demonstrated good knowledge and safe attitudes toward concussions, with coaches reporting higher attitude scores and greater awareness of concussion guidelines. Players with previous concussion experience was associated with higher levels of knowledge, and prior education was linked to greater awareness of guidelines. The results also indicated differences in responsibility depending on the level of competition, with coaches in amateur teams most often identified as responsible for concussion management.
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
