Advancing Indonesian neuropsychological assessment with tools from computer science
Contains fulltext :
319689.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access)The need for neuropsychologists in Indonesia is increasing due to rising mental health awareness, an ageing population, and the prevalence of conditions like stroke and dementia. Neuropsychologists play key roles in diagnosis, intervention, and care for patients and families. In schools, neuropsychological services help create personalized educational plans. Many cognitive assessments use Western norms, which may not reflect Indonesia’s linguistic and cultural diversity. To address this, we introduced an online platform offering normative data for the Indonesian-Boston Naming Test (I-BNT), with features that adjust for demographic differences. A dynamic, expandable database allows for future updates to reflect Indonesia’s population. Despite current data being mostly from Java, the platform encourages collaboration and improved access nationwide. We also introduced the Indonesian Neuropsychological Test Battery (INTB), covering memory, attention, and language. Additionally, an automated scoring system using computer vision and an ASR model with Wav2vec2 improves objectivity in assessing hand-drawn and verbal responses. These technologies ensure fairer, faster, and more consistent testing. Integrating digital tools and local data strengthens Indonesia’s neuropsychological services.Radboud University, 18 juni 2025Promotores : Luijtelaar, E.L.J.M. van, Heskes, T.M. Pre- and Postoperative Verbal Memory and Executive Functioning in Frontal Lobe Epilepsy versus Temporal Lobe Epilepsy
Neuropsychological assessment has become an important tool in evaluating the preoperative cognitive status and the postoperative cognitive outcome after neurosurgery in patients with focal epilepsy. Even though earlier studies predominantly focused on cognitive functioning in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), there is evidence for a great overlap in preoperatively affected cognitive functions between patients with TLE and patients with frontal lobe epilepsy (FLE). The current study aimed to investigate whether it is possible to differentiate between FLE and TLE patients prior to surgery based on different measures that assess verbal memory and executive functioning. Furthermore, since it has been proposed that the two groups develop differently after surgery, the postoperative cognitive development of patients was examined. Pre- and postoperative data of 303 patients with either FLE (n = 109) or TLE (n = 194) was retrospectively analyzed. Preoperative results indicate that the patient groups did not differ on measures of verbal memory functioning. In fact, measures of executive functioning may be more valuable in differentiating FLE from TLE patients. Postoperative findings revealed that there is no distinctive development between patients with FLE and TLE on the assessed cognitive functions. Results rather suggest that the lateralization, not the localization of epileptic activity may be the more important variable in evaluating preoperative presentation and postoperative outcome, at least for measures of verbal memory functioning. Results are discussed in the light of generalization concerns and heterogeneity issues pertaining to the patient groups that were included in this study. In conclusion, the present study adds to the knowledge base on the grounds of which patients may be advised for or against epilepsy surgery
vermogen (leercurves) middels twee Repeated Measures ANOVA’s.
zelfredzaamheid
Predictors of Prospective Memory Performance in Borderline Personality Disorder: The relationship between drug abuse, inhibitory control, prospective memory and borderline personality disorder
People suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) are characterized by impulsivity
and memory impairment, in addition to problems with emotion regulation and their selfconcept.
Because of the risky behaviour they show and the emotion regulation problems they
have, they often get addicted to drugs. The aim of this study was getting to know the
relationship between a Borderline personality disorder, drug abuse and prospective memory
performance. It was expected that the group with BPD would show poorer performance on
the prospective memory task requiring high inhibitory control than on the task requiring low
inhibitory control. Moreover, it was expected that these differential effects would be stronger
for people with BPD who report to have an additional addiction problem. In order to test this,
a total of 20 patients of a clinic in Cologne were asked to participate in the study using a
prospective memory task and several pen and paper tests concerning their diagnosis, mood,
intelligence, cognitive capacity and drug abuse. The six male and 14 female participants were
between the ages of 18 and 49 (M = 33.60). The results indicate that people suffering from
BPD show no difference between high and low inhibitory control in prospective memory
performance and that drug abuse was not moderating factor between BPD and prospective
memory. Methodological, as well as theoretical explanations and practical implications are
provided.
