Confessions of an Internet Monopolist: Demand Estimation for a Versioned Information Good
Full text linkWe investigate profit-maximizing versioning plans for an information goods monopolist. The analysis employs data obtained from a web-based field experiment in which potential buyers were offered information goods in varied price-quality configurations. Maximum simulated likelihood (MSL) methods are used to estimate parameters describing the distribution of utility function parameters across potential buyers of the good. No full textRFID technologies are currently considered a hot topic in the IT arena and have been described as a major enabling technology for automated, contactless, wireless data collection. Little is known about the perceived strategic importance of RFID among IT decision makers, current RFID usage, companies ' intentions to invest in RFID and companies ’ visions of RFID application. This research contributes quantitative data on IT decision makers ’ view of RFID across various industries and company sizes in Italy. RFID is currently not very widespread. Many IT decision makers have not even heard about it. Those who have thought about the topic perceive RFID as a strategic issue. They expect the importance of RFID to rise significantly over the next few years. Companies ’ RFID budgets will rise over the next 5 years and IT decision makers are willing to invest in the technology. However, RFID is not a topic of high priority on the IT agenda. IT decision makers hope for more process accuracy and reduction of errors. Moreover, they see RFID as a means to enable new service, even though they do not think it could influence their core competencies significantly

No full textUm die Herausforderungen eines dynamischen Markt- und Wettbewerbsumfeldes zu bewältigen, verlagern Automobilhersteller zunehmend Umfänge ihrer Wert-schöpfungskette an Zulieferer aus. Die Entwicklung geht soweit, dass komplexe Systemumfänge bis hin zum Gesamtfahrzeug im Auftrag des Automobilherstellers oder in enger Zusammenarbeit mit ihm entwickelt bzw. produziert werden.
Einhergehend mit dem Trend wird sowohl in der Literatur als auch in der Praxis die Forderung nach einer Methode zur Konzeption von Outsourcingmodellen laut, die eine Bewertung, Planung und Kontrolle umfangreicher und komplexer Fremdvergaben ermöglichen. Zudem unterstützt es die Überprüfung der Machbarkeit und der internen Konsistenz von Outsourcingprojekten.
Im Rahmen der Arbeit werden mittels Fallstudien zu Fremdvergaben auf Gesamtfahrzeugebene die Herausforderungen moderner Zusammenarbeitsmodelle zwischen Zulieferer und Automobilhersteller analysiert. Anhand der Ergebnisse der empirischen Untersuchung erfolgt die Ableitung eines Anforderungsprofils für eine Methode, die als Planungs-, Evaluierungs-, Implementierungs- und Kontroll-instrumentarium für Fremdvergabeprojekte dient. Auf Basis des Anforderungsprofils wird eine Methode zur Konzeption von Outsourcingmodellen mit besonderem Augenmerk auf Informationssysteme und Informationsarchitekturen entwickelt. Ein Vergleich mit bereits bestehenden Methoden in der Literatur und eine kritische Reflexion der eigenen Methode ausgehend von einer Expertenevaluierung, runden die Arbeit ab.The pivotal role of outsourcing in modern business processes highlights the importance of outsourcing to master the challenges of a dynamic market and a competitive surrounding field. Especially original equipment manufacturers shift increasingly parts of their value chain to suppliers. The development even reaches a level that complex system up to the total vehicle are developed and/or produced by suppliers or in close cooperation with the car manufacturer. Since outsourcing such extensive parts of the value chain always requires a trade-off between the economic and organizational feasibility, both theory and practice demand a method, which ensures an evaluation, planning and control of extensive and complex outsourcing projects. The thesis analyzes the challenges of modern cooperation models between suppliers and car manufacturers based on the empirical study of outsourcing projects at level total vehicle, applying the Grounded Theory Methodology. Deriving a requirement profile of the case studies the author develops a method that supports stakeholders in systematically developing complex outsourcing models. Additionally, the author outlines the methodical deficits of methods in the literature and provides a expert evaluation to substantiate the developed method

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Internetbasierte und IT-gestützte Programme erscheinen besonders geeignet, einen weiten Kreis der Bevölkerung zu erreichen und effizient zu betreuen. Es fehlen jedoch Erkenntnisse zur effektiven und effizienten Gestaltung solcher Programme, insbesondere hinsichtlich des Leistungs- und Funktionsangebots, der Skalierbarkeit und der geeigneten Kommunikationskanäle. An diesem Punkt setzt die Arbeit an und behandelt auf Basis der explorativen Aktionsforschung das theoriegeleitete Design, die Einführung und die Evaluation eines IT-gestützten Bewegungsprogrammes für inaktive Erwachsene.Increasing physical activity holds enormous potential for preventing diseases and reducing related costs. Especially internet based and IT-supported interventions seem a promising way to reach and supervise wide parts of the population. However, there is a lack of knowledge about the effective and efficient design of such interventions, particularly regarding services and functions, scalability, and appropriate communication channels.
