A new species of Ptomaphagus Hellwig, 1795, is described from Guatemala, P. izabal n. sp. Short diagnoses of species of Ptomaphagus (Adelops) from Guatemala are given with characters not previously mentioned in earlier descriptions and those important for identifications. Male and female genitalia are illustrated when available. The distribution area of the four species known from Guatemala is mapped.Une nouvelle espèce de Ptomaphagus Hellwig, 1795, du Guatemala est décrite, P. izabal n. sp. Les espèces de Ptomaphagus (Adelops) du Guatemala sont sommairement redécrites en insistant sur les caractères non mentionnés auparavant et ceux importants pour l’identification des espèces. No full textGeïnterviewde 07 wordt als dienstplichtig soldaat in april 1947 in Semarang gelegerd. Bij aankomst in Semarang wordt zijn legeronderdeel gestationeerd in een voormalig schoolgebouw als kazerne. Tegenover deze kazerne is een kruidenierswinkeltje, gerund door twee Chinese zusjes. Als Vader_NL_07 hier regelmatig langsloopt, komt hij een derde zusje tegen, de 19-jarige apothekersassistente E. (zie interview Oorlogsliefdekind: moeder GV_Hellwig_oorlogsliefdekind_moeder_IND_16). Vader_NL_07 en E. gaan elkaar regelmatig zien en verloven zich op 1 januari 1948. Er worden verlovingskaarten gemaakt met uitnodiging voor de receptie. Zij richten samen een huisje in waar E. woont en waar Vader_NL_07 haar overdag bezoekt tussen zijn militaire acties door. ’s Nachts verblijft hij in de kazerne. In februari 1949 wordt hun dochter N. geboren (zie interview Oorlogsliefdekind: soldatenkind GV_Hellwig_oorlogsliefdekind_kind_IND_11). Vader_NL_07 is op dat moment in Zuid-Java voor een militaire operatie. Hun dochter heet officieel M., naar zijn moeder. Aan zijn familie thuis schrijft Vader_NL_07 niets over zijn verloving, noch over de geboorte van zijn kind. In dat eerste half jaar na haar geboorte ziet Vader_NL_07 zijn dochter regelmatig.
Als eind 1949 alle militairen naar Nederland moeten terugkeren, wil Vader_NL_07 het liefst in Indonesië blijven en een kapperszaak beginnen. Zijn commandant verplicht hem echter scheep te gaan naar Nederland. Eenmaal terug in Nederland verwatert het contact met zijn verloofde E. Vader_NL_07 bespreekt zijn situatie met zijn pastoor in Utrecht, die hem aanraadt de hele boel te vergeten en er geen aandacht meer aan te besteden. Hij meldt zijn moeder en zuster nog wel dat hij verloofd is geweest in Indonesie, maar niet dat er sprake is van een kind. Met zijn vader heeft hij er nooit over gesproken. Vader_NL_07 laat de hele situatie zonder gewetenswroeging achter zich.
Hij trouwt in 1953 met een meisje in Nederland, het paar krijgt vier kinderen. Vader_NL_07 verzwijgt zijn verloving in Indonesië, evenals het feit dat hij daar een kind heeft. In 1989 wordt in het weekblad Story een oproep geplaatst door een tante van N., dat deze laatste op zoek is naar haar vader. De oproep wordt bij toeval gelezen door de dochter van Vader_NL_07, die hem er op aanspreekt. Aanvankelijk leidt dit tot consternatie binnen het gezin.
Vader_NL_07 neemt contact op met zijn dochter in Indonesië. Moeder E. en dochter N. reizen af naar Nederland voor een paar weken en ontmoeten vader Vader_NL_07 en zijn nieuwe familie. Vader_NL_07 erkent uiteindelijk zijn dochter officieel via de Nederlandse instanties. Sindsdien is het contact in stand gebleven, zij het niet intensief. Vader_NL_07 is nooit naar Indonesië geweest. Zijn zoon J. trekt zich het lot van zijn halfzusje als enige van de familie aan en bezoekt haar meermalen in Indonesië. Vader_NL_07 zelf zegt dat hij zich van dingen als de verloving destijds en de namen van zijn dochter eigenlijk niet veel meer kan herinneren. ‘Het ging een beetje als een roes’, geeft hij regelmatig aan.
Projectbeschrijving ‘Oorlogsliefdekind’:
Tijdens de dekolonisatie-oorlog met Indonesië onderhielden Nederlandse militairen contacten met de lokale bevolking, en dus ook met Indonesische meisjes. Regelmatig werden, vaak onbedoeld, uit deze verhoudingen kinderen geboren. Na de onafhankelijkheidsoverdracht in 1949 keerden de troepen terug naar huis. Een onbekend aantal Nederlands-Indonesische kinderen bleef achter bij hun moeder in het nieuwe Indonesië.
Voor het project Oorlogsliefdekind zijn 18 Oral History interviews met vaders, moeders en de betreffende kinderen gedeponeerd bij DANS. De datasets van deze geïnterviewden bestaan uit audiovisuele interview opnames, de bijbehorende transcripties en eventueel aanvullende data zoals brieven, persoonlijke en officiële documenten, foto's en persoonlijk filmmateriaal van de geïnterviewde. A Multi-Language Comparison of Influences on Author Verification using Character N-Grams

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
No full textWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. The vanishing author in computer-generated works: a critical analysis of recent Australian case law

The use of software is ubiquitous in the creation of many copyright works, yet the requirement in copyright law that every work have a human author who engages in independent intellectual effort means that its use may prevent copyright subsistence. Several recent Australian cases have refocused attention on authorship as an essential criterion of copyright subsistence, and these cases suggest that much computer-produced output may be authorless and thus lack copyright protection. This article, the first in a two-part series, analyses how each case deals with the question of authorship of computer-produced works and why the use of software diminishes copyright protection for a significant number of computer-generated works. The article critiques the application of conventional notions of human authorship developed in the pre-computer age to modern productions and suggests alternative approaches to authorship that satisfy both the major objectives of copyright policy and the need to adapt to the computer age. The article argues that, without a broader judicial approach to authorship of computer-generated works, Parliament must remedy the lacuna in protection for these ‘authorless’ works. Possible solutions for reform are suggested. In a forthcoming article, the author comprehensively examines those reform proposals
