    - Carlo Della Corte e la scrittura di fantascienza

    No full text
The first attempt of della Corte as a narrator, Pulsatilla sexuata (1962), is a collection of science fiction stories, in which irony and satire – the style adopted by the author – occur both in relation to the hegemony of the American cultural model and as a parody of contemporary and classical literary antecedents (Buzzati, but also Dante and d’Annunzio). According to della Corte a demystifying will is the only way to understand reality: in Pulsatilla sexuata he tests a linguistic register poised between irony and self-irony, a register he keeps throughout his literary career. In the later anthology Cronache dell’arcipelago (1996), a collection of science fiction short stories all set in Venice, of which Carlo della Corte isn’t only the editor but also the author of four pieces (Tetralogia veneziana), he confirms the possibility of an Italian approach to science fiction and his belief in the active role of literature in human knowledge

Global existence and stability for the modified Mullins–Sekerka and surface diffusion flow†

In this survey we present the state of the art about the asymptotic behavior and stability of the modified Mullins–Sekerka flow and the surface diffusion flow of smooth sets, mainly due to E. Acerbi, N. Fusco, V. Julin and M. Morini. First we discuss in detail the properties of the nonlocal Area functional under a volume constraint, of which the two flows are the gradient flow with respect to suitable norms, in particular, we define the strict stability property for a critical set of such functional and we show that it is a necessary and sufficient condition for minimality under W2,p–perturbations, holding in any dimension. Then, we show that, in dimensions two and three, for initial sets sufficiently “close” to a smooth strictly stable critical set E, both flows exist for all positive times and asymptotically “converge” to a translate of E.Applied Probabilit

Higher-gradient continua: The legacy of Piola, Mindlin, Sedov and Toupin and some future research perspectives

    No full text
Since the first studies dedicated to the mechanics of deformable bodies (by Euler, D'Alembert, Lagrange) the principle of virtual work (or virtual velocities) has been used to provide firm guidance to the formulation of novel theories. Gabrio Piola dedicated his scientific life to formulating a continuum theory in order to encompass a large class of deformation phenomena and was the first author to consider continua with non-local internal interactions and, as a particular case, higher-gradient continua. More recent followers of Piola (Mindlin, Sedov and then Richard Toupin) recognized the principle of virtual work (and its particular case, the principle of least action) as the (only!) firm foundation of continuum mechanics. Mindlin and Toupin managed to formulate a conceptual frame for continuum mechanics which is able to effectively model the complex behaviour of so-called architectured, advanced, multiscale or microstructured (meta)materials. Other postulation schemes, in contrast, do not seem able to be equally efficient. The present work aims to provide a historical and theoretical overview of the subject. Some research perspectives concerning this theoretical approach are outlined in the final section

Unsteady pylon loading caused by propeller-slipstream impingement for tip-mounted propellers

    No full text
An experimental analysis was performed of the unsteady aerodynamic loading caused by the impingement of a propeller slipstream on a downstream lifting surface. When installed on an aircraft, this unsteady loading results in vibrations that are transmitted to the fuselage and are perceived inside the cabin as structure-borne noise. A pylon-mounted tractor-propeller configuration was installed in a low-speed wind tunnel at Delft University of Technology. Surface-microphone and particle-image-velocimetry measurements were taken to quantify the pressure fluctuations on the pylon and visualize the impingement phenomena. It was confirmed that the propeller tip vortex is the dominant source of pressure fluctuations on the pylon. Along the path of the tip vortex on the pylon, a periodic pressure response occurs with strong harmonics. The amplitude of the pressure fluctuations increases with increasing thrust setting, whereas the unsteady lift coefficient displays a nonmonotonic dependency on the propeller thrust. The lowest integral unsteady loads were obtained for cases with approximately integer ratios between the pylon chord and the wavelength of the perturbation associated with the propeller tip vortices. This implies that structure-borne-noise reductions might be obtained by matching the pylon chord with an integer multiple of the axial separation between the propeller tip vortices.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Flight Performance and PropulsionWind Energ

Alleviation of Propeller-slipstream-induced unsteady pylon loading by a flow-permeable leading edge

    No full text
The impingement of a propeller slipstream on a downstream surface causes unsteady loading, which may lead to vibrations responsible for structure-borne noise. A low-speed wind-tunnel experiment was performed to quantify the potential of a flow-permeable leading edge to alleviate the slipstream-induced unsteady loading. For this purpose, a tractor propeller was installed at the tip of a pylon featuring a replaceable leading-edge insert in the region of slipstream impingement. Tests were carried out with four flow-permeable inserts, with different hole diameters and cavity depths, and a baseline solid insert. Particle-image-velocimetry measurements showed that the flow through the permeable surface caused an increase in boundary-layer thickness on the pylon's suction side. This led to a local drag increase and reduced lift, especially for angles of attack above 6 deg. Furthermore, it amplified the viscous interaction with the propeller tip-vortex cores, reducing the velocity fluctuations near the pylon surface by up to 35%. Consequently, lower tonal noise emissions from the pylon were measured in the far field. This suggests that the desired reduction in surface pressure fluctuations was achieved by application of the flow-permeable leading edge.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Flight Performance and PropulsionWind EnergyAircraft Noise and Climate Effect

Arvien biežāk uzņēmēji importē preces un pārdot tās tālāk savā valstī, tomēr produkta izplatīšana ne vienmēr izdodas tirgus atšķirību un neprasmīgas produkta virzīšanas dēļ. Bakalaura darba mērķis, pamatojoties uz teorētisko aspektu izpēti par jauna produkta izplatīšanu, novērtēt kafijas automāta „Dalla Corte” izplatīšanas procesu Latvijā un izstrādāt priekšlikumus par tā virzīšanu Latvijas tirgū. Darbs sastāv no 3 nodaļām. Pirmajā nodaļā autore apskata produkta izplatīšanas teorētiskos aspektus, otrajā nodaļā pēta „Dalla Corte” izplatīšanas iespējas Latvijā, un trešajā analizē pētījumu par to pieprasījumu, labākajām virzīšanas metodēm.
