The Many Sides of Happy Lim: aka Hom Ah Wing, Lin Jian Fu, Happy Lum, Lin Chien Fu, Hom Yen Chuck, Lam Kin Foo, Lum Kin Foo, Hom, Lim Goon Wing, Lim Gin Foo, Gin Foo Lin, Koon Wing Lim, Henry Chin, Lim Ying Chuck, Lim Ah Wing, et. al.
<p>Known to the FBI, INS, and IRS as Mr. Ah Wing Hom, he was also Lin Jian Fu, Jian Fu (Tough Guy), or just Fu to the readers of the many poems and short stories he published in Chinese over four decades in the twentieth century. And to still others, primarily English-readers of his writing, he was Happy Lim, an ironic, even tragically bizarre name, as his life was far from pleasant. On New Year's Day 1986, he died alone in a dingy San Francisco Chinatown bachelor hotel suffering from a bacterial infection and a chronic blood disorder that had required the amputation of all his toes the year before. He was seventy-eight years of age and had spent most of his life within blocks of where he died.</p>
Portraits of Du Fu in English translations
Du Fu 杜甫 (712-770) is China’s most worshipped poet. He is well known and thoroughly studied in Chinese, with his images deeply rooted in the mind of Chinese people. In the English world, though the scholarship dedicated on Du Fu does not justifiably constitute the amount of output a monumental wordsmith deserves, he has been partially translated various times by different scholars or poets before the complete English translation is available. This thesis aims to depict the reception of Du Fu in the Chinese and English literary traditions to demonstrate how such a towering literary figure is presented in the source and target cultures.
Using the representation of the poet in Chinese anthologies and the different foci of Du Fu studies from the Tang (618-907) to Qing period (1636-1912) as an opening case study, it is found that there are five typical portraits of Du Fu in the Chinese culture, namely the poet-historian, the autobiographical poet, the erudite poet, the poet-sage and the great synthesizer. The study then progresses to the history of Du Fu reception in the Western world. After a chronological survey of the nature and history of poetry translation, a handful of influential English translations of Du Fu and their rendering strategies are examined to show a clearer picture of Du Fu as he is presented to the Western readership. A comparison is finally drawn to evaluate how the qualities that bring fame to Du Fu are transferred to the English readership.published_or_final_versionChineseMasterMaster of Philosoph

Xu Fu-Yuan's Life Feelings during the Transitional Period between the Ming and Qing Dynasty
Xu Fu-Yuan (\ue5\ube\ue5\uad\ue9\ua0) was a famous writer in the late Ming Dynasty (\ue6\ue5\uad\ua3)\uef\ubcand started Ji Club (\ue5\ub9\ube\ue7\ua4\ube) with Chen Zi-long (\ue9\ub3\ue5\uad\ue9\ube) and Xia Yun-yi (\ue5\ua4\ue5\ue5\ubd). When the Ming (\ue6) government was overthrown by the Qing (\ue6\ub8)government .he chose to forsake his family to overturn the Qing (\ue6\ub8) government and then experienced several emperors of Nan Ming dynasties (\ue5\ue6). The poems written during he left the hometown to overturn the Qing (\ue6\ub8) government in\ue2 Diao-Huang-Tang Manuscripts\ue2
(\ue3\ue9\ua3\ue7\ue5\ua0\ue5\uad\ue7\ua8\ubf\ue3)and\ue2 Jiao-Xing Manuscripts\ue2(\ue3\ue4\uba\ua4\ue8\ua1\ue6\ue7\ua8\ubf\ue3)total early2800.People
could hardly get the Diao-Huang-Tang Manuscripts(\ue3\ue9\ua3\ue7\ue5\ua0\ue5\uad\ue7\ua8\ubf\ue3)so the critics and researches in the Ming literature are very poor, and there are some questions must be settled in the Taiwan literature. Therefore, the study is on the two books to explore his life feelings during the Ming (\ue6) and Qing (\ue6\ub8).
The subjects of this study comprises the life and writings of Xu Fu-yuan, social association, self-identification, feelings, ocean writing, and Taiwan writing. By researching in depth on Xu Fu-Yuan (\ue5\ube\ue5\uad\ue9\ua0) and his poems, we discover something .For example, first, we confirm he went to Jiao Nan (\ue4\uba\ua4\ue5) in February ,12th year of Yong-li (\ue6\ub0\ub8\ue6). Second, we get Xu Fu-Yuan\ue2s (\ue5\ube\ue5\uad\ue9\ua0) friends in his poems more than 140.It not only helps us to understand him more but fill the records in Nan Ming dynasty. Third, his ocean writings have plenty of subjects and varied images. Fourth, according to\ue2 Diao-Huang-Tang Manuscripts\ue2(\ue3\ue9\ua3\ue7\ue5\ua0\ue5\uad\ue7\ua8\ubf\ue3), he came to Taiwan with his wife and his childe to reclaim lands in 1rt year of Kangxi (\ue5\uba\ub7\ue7). In addition, the poem \ue2peach blossom\ue2 (\ue3\ue6\ua1\ue8\ub1\ue3) and \ue2mourn for Zhang Gong-SHi\ue2aren\ue2t written in Taiwan.
Generally speaking, Xu Fu-Yuan (\ue5\ube\ue5\uad\ue9\ua0) has an extremely important historical value in Taiwan literature ,Chinese literature

Abstract
Critical velocity (CV) and critical power (CP) have been proposed to be effective indirect anaerobic threshold methods in monitoring training and predicting performance of rowing respectively. The purpose of this study was to compare these two indexes in predicting indoor rowing performance by combining different physiological variables, including maximal oxygen uptake ( VO2max ), anaerobic threshold (AT4) and modified Wingate test, which are important physiological variables in endurance performance. In addition, whether or not the physiological variables (VO2, VCO2, VE, HR, [La-]) under these two critical intensities were stable was also examined. Fifteen elite female rowers (age 20.73± 1.44 years, height 1.64 ±0.35m, weight 56.64±4.38kg) were recruited in this study. VO2max (2.47 ±0.47L) and AT4(157.81 ±22.08W) were measured during a discontinuous graded exercise test, starting at 100W, on a Concept II ergometer increased by 25 W for each 3-min stage. Four test times of duration 90s, 240s, 600s, and 1200s were used to determine CP (139.49 ±20.37W), whereas CV( 4.00 ±0.14m/s) was estimated by 400m, 600m, 800m, 1000m maximal exertion trials in different days as well by using Linear distance-time model. Peak power (353.48 ±27.71W), maximum power (350.12 ±26.72W), minimum power (336.85 ±21.58W), mean power (314.44 ±27.87W), fatigue index (max power - min power/ mean power) were obtained using a modified Wingate test protocol (30s sprint) on the ergometer. Physiological variation of intensity at CV and CP, including VO2, VCO2, VE, HR, [La-], were measured every 5 minutes in 20-min constant rowing tests. The results of study showed that VO2max, AT4, CP, CV, peak power, mean power were significantly correlated with 2000 indoor rowing performance (r=?0.84, ?0.85, ?0.81, ?0.97, ?0.66, ?0.67, P<0.01). By submitting mean power, fatigue index, VO2max, AT4 with each index to a stepwise regression analysis, it produced two individual critical concept models as following to predict 2000 indoor rowing performance: CV model: T2000= ?131.83 CV(m/s)?1.00 fatugue index(%) +1023.91 (R2=0.96, SEE=4.10, p<.05); CP model: T2000=?22.59 VO2max(L/min)?.38AT4(W)+608.58 (R2 =0.82, SEE=8.05, p<.05). When rowing at CV on indoor ergometer (14±4 min), VO2, VE, HR, [La-] didn’t reach steady state and VCO2 was not different at different time points. Under CP, VO2, VCO2 didn’t change with time, however, there were significant difference of VE, HR, [La-] at different time points. Our findings in this study indicated that CV has more predictive power, representing as anaerobic threshold, than AT4 to predict rowing performance. Besides CV, fatigue index from modified Wingate test is also an important determinant for 2000-m performance of female rowers. Therefore, comparing with CP, CV could be used when applying critical concept in training and evaluate indoor performance in rowing. In addition, both two-parameter-derived CV and CP in rowing do not represent sustainable steady state intensities.
Key words: critical velocity, critical power, anaerobic power, energy expenditure, rowing, performance.
Catalytic dynamic kinetic reductive addition of simple aldehydes and aldimines with heterobiaryl triflates: harnessing both central and axial chirality
A nickel-catalyzed intramolecular dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) strategy has been developed for the enantioselective synthesis of axially chiral heterobiaryls from racemic azabiaryl triflates. Using a reductive addition mechanism, this method controls both axial and central chirality, offering broad substrate scope, excellent enantioselectivity, and atroposelectivity. The resulting chiral heterobiaryls were effectively employed as organocatalysts and chiral ligands in asymmetric transformations, highlighting their synthetic utility. Mechanistic studies indicate a synergy between kinetic resolution and nickel-mediated stereochemical inversion, addressing challenges in concurrent axial and stereochemical control.
