    This article is based on Ong Leng Yauw’s testimony about Krakatoa eruption in 1883 and the victims in the Karangantu village Banten. Yauw Leng Ong is a Chinese, born and raised in Karangantu Beach Banten. He was 14 years old when the Krakatoa eruption occurred on August 27, 1883. From his testimony, the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa caused a tsunami that devastated Karangantu village Banten. Humans and animals corpses strewn among the rubble that blanketed the Krakatoa volcanic ash. There were only four survivors, Yauw Leng Ong, Ong Seng Boen, and two sisters Roti Nio and Biskoeit Nio

    Multi-word Sequences in Learner Corpora: A Corpus Analysis of Lexical Bundles / Ang Leng Hong and He Mengyu

    There have been longstanding attempts to establish frequency profiles of words which are specific to academic register in order to facilitate learners in composing fluent academic writing. A more noteworthy effort was by Coxhead who proposed the Academic Word List (Coxhead, 2000). Recent developments in the field have increasingly regarded multi-word sequences such as lexical phrases, lexical bundles, formulas and clusters as crucially important and functionally significant in the academic contexts (Simpson-Vlach & Ellis, 2010). The present study adopts a corpus-based approach to identify a type of multi-word sequence, i.e., lexical bundles in student academic writing. Lexical bundles retrieved from a corpus of Asian college student essays and a corpus of British university-level student writing are identified, analysed and compared using corpus-linguistic techniques. The results of the analysis show that certain lexical bundles share the same keywords. This keyword sharing characteristic suggests that lexical bundles are internally analysable although they are initially retrieved as continuous strings of words. Besides, there is no significant difference in the functional use of lexical bundles between the Asian learners and British native students. However, both Asian learners and British university students are found to prefer different types of lexical bundles. Simpson- Vlach and Ellis’s (2010) functional classification taxonomy (e.g., referential expressions, stance expressions, discourse organising functions) is used to categorise and analyse the items functionally. Discussion. The records above apparently all refer to a single Martinique specimen, which we have not found. The identity of this specimen is unknown at this time, thus it is placed incertae sedis. In spite of three species names being involved, there is only a single record here. We can trace the record to Leng and Mutchler (1914), but no voucher has been found. It may originate earlier, but we have been unable to find it. In 1957, Marcuzzi did not cite a specimen for his Martinique record of D. perforatus in his table. In 1962, he dropped the D. perforatus record for Martinique, rather moving it to D. hummelincki with a “?” In 1977, D. hummelincki was replaced with D. mulsanti, and the Martinique record retained. Lastly, in 1984, the Martinique record for D. perforatus was reinstated by Marcuzzi, apparently forgetting he moved it to D. hummelincki / mulsanti, which was also retained.     Ph.D.An ultracold Bose-Bose mixture of ⁸⁷Rb and ²³Na provides an excellent plat- form for studying not only few-body but also many-body physics. A key feature of ultracold atoms mixture is the tunable interspecies interaction, which is facilitated by the Feshbach resonance. In this thesis, we study the behavior of ultracold Bose-Bose mixture under different interspecies interaction. The studies are divided into two different topic, each of them corresponds to a different regime of many-body physics.The primary research is about the behavior of the impurities in Bose-Einstein condensate, which is also known as the polaron state. We use the radio frequency spectroscopy to probe the spectra of the ⁸⁷Rb impurities in a ²³Na Bose-Einstein condensate. For the trap-averaged spectra, near quantitative agreement between the theory and experimental data can be observed without any fitting parameters. Besides, we develop a fitting model which helps us find the energy and residue immune from the trap-averaging. The results shows the deviation of polaron energy and residue at strong inter- acting regime, which can not be explained by field-theoretic approach and two-body variational theory.The second research investigates the manipulation of heteronuclear spinor dynamics by microwave and light field. Previously, we have observe the first heteronuclear spin coherent heteronuclear spin oscillation in a spin-1 mixture of ⁸⁷Rb and ²³Na atoms. Here, we observe the spin population oscillation start from a pure |0, 0⟩ mixture of ⁸⁷Rb and ²³Na. We then demonstrate controlling of the spin dynamics by either a detuned microwave field or a laser beam, which selectively dress the energy levels of ⁸⁷Rb atoms. He also improved his academic skills at London School of Economics (UK), Sidney Sussex College (Cambridge, UK), International Institute of Human Rights (Strasbourg, France) and Stanford University (USA). Previous work of Ambassador Marmazov`s experience includes acting as the deputy dean of the Faculty of Law of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, practicing law as the Lawyer at the European Court of Human Rights (Strasbourg, France) and a Partner of Yuris Law Offices, and serving as the deputy ministers in Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. Rachel Leng graduated with an M.A. from Harvard University and B.A. from Duke University. She is currently an Affiliate Editor at GPR and Research Associate at Asan Institute for Policy Studies
