Generation of vibration load spectrum for fatigue analysis of equipment mounted on bogie frame of railway vehicle based on fatigue damage spectrum

    No full text
The equipment mounted on the bogie frame of railway vehicles is subjected to non-stationary vibrations from the bogie frame. Currently, the vibration load spectrum for fatigue analysis of equipment is expressed with the power spectral density, which is generally obtained with the power values of measured vibrations or stationary Gaussian vibrations collected at the specific operating conditions. However, this does not have the equivalent damage potential as the non-stationary vibrations. Thus, a generation method of the vibration load spectrum is proposed based on the fatigue damage spectrum (FDS) to obtain the equivalent damage potential as the one from the non-stationary vibrations in this paper. That is, the FDS of non-stationary vibration is calculated with the time domain method, and the vibration load spectrum is generated in the frequency domain with this FDS. Then the method is verified by the measured vibration and dynamic strain of equipment. Finally, the vibration load spectrum of equipment mounted on the bogie frame is generated with the measured vibrations in a maintenance cycle and the fatigue analysis is performed. The results show that the generated vibration load spectrum can validly contain the high power in non-stationary vibrations and express the distribution of power over frequency, which gives much better estimates of the fatigue damage of equipment than other load spectra. The generated vibration load spectrum is suitable for quantifying the actual non-stationary vibrations and can be used for the anti-fatigue design of equipment

It is of great significance to study dust-retention of urban garden plant species and to select those with strong dust retention ability to improve urban environment.Ten common park greening plant species occurring in Zhengzhou city were selected to quantify particles with different sizes(TSP,PM>10,PM10,PM2.5) per unit leaf area using a membrane filtration method. The influences of the leaf traits on dust-retention ability were analyzed. The results showed that there were significant differences in the dust retention per unit leaf area and the dust retention of different particle sizes among the 10 plant species(P10 on their leaves.C.deodara,Photinia serrulata and Nerium indicum had strong ability to retain PM10 and PM2.5.Nandina domestica had the weakest ability to retain TSP,PM>10,PM10 and PM2.5.The dust-retention ability was influenced by leaf surface morphology. The leaves of C.deodara,S.chinensis,P.serrulta and N.indicum with rough surface, sticky grease or obvious veins had strong dust-retention ability. There was correlation between the amount of dust-retention and the contents of wax from leaves. There was significant and positive correlation between the amount of PM10 and PM2.5 and the contents of wax, while there was no significant correlation between the amount of TSP and PM>10 and the contents of wax.Wax contents had a notable influence on the dust retention ability of fine particulate matter. The ability to retain PM10 and PM2.5 increased with wax contents. Therefore, the dust-retention ability was influenced by leaf surface morphology and wax contents.C.deodara,S.chinensis and P.serrulta that had strong dust-retention ability could be considered as urban landscaping plant species in Zhengzhou city

Enhanced structural stability of nanoporous zirconia under irradiation of He

    No full text
This work reports a greatly enhanced tolerance for He irradiation-induced swelling in nanocrystalline zirconia film with interconnected nanoporous structure (hereinafter referred as to NC-C). Compared to bulk yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) and another nanocrystalline zirconia film only with discrete nano voids (hereinafter referred as to NC-V), the NC-C film reveals good tolerance for irradiation of high-fluence He. No appreciable surface blistering can be found even at the highest fluence of 6 x 10(17) cm(-2) in NCC film. From TEM analysis of as-irradiated samples, the enhanced tolerance for volume swelling in NCC film is attributed to the enhanced diffusion mechanism of deposited He via widely distributed nano channels. Furthermore, the growth of grain size is quite small for both nanocrystalline zirconia films after irradiation, which is ascribed to the decreasing of area of grain boundary due to loose structure and low energy of primary knock-on atoms for He ions. Bu an qi wei?: zuo wei wai jiao yi yuan de Weituoma (Thomas Francis Wade, 1818-1895) = "Unsteadiness of purpose"? : Thomas Francis Wade (1818–1895) as a diplomatic iInterpreter

M.Phil.Described by Earl of Clarendon (1800–1870) as “unsteadiness of purpose”, Thomas Francis Wade (1818–1895) served as an interpreter in China for nearly 15 years at a time when there were insufficient British who had studied Chinese. He first served in the 98th Regiment as a lieutenant, and before long quit his job and became an interpreter. After gladly accepting the appointment of vice-consul in Shanghai, he soon resigned to serve Qing’s government as a Customs Inspector. Arguing Chinese study is “the great purpose of his life”, he resigned again to get back to the position of interpreter. Finally, he shifted from an interpreter to a diplomat in Peking. Most scholars, in China and abroad, have studied Wade only as a diplomat or a sinologist. Wade has recently been depicted only as a Chinese scholar who revels in sinology. But little research has been done on Wade as a diplomatic interpreter. Based on a large volume of first-hand materials, the present paper examines the life of this “unsteady” figure, redrawing his unique and uneven path as a diplomatic interpreter in the mid-nineteenth century. By analyzing his shift from being an interpreter to a diplomat, the present paper presents his hybrid quality and multiple roles in the shaping of Sino- British relations. It further argues that he is more of a steady who proceeds continuingly towards diplomacy for Her Majesty’s service. Sinology is not a purpose and entangling with various purposes is just his means and channels for Her Majesty’s service. Detailed case studies in this paper will shed some light on the intertwined relations between interpreters, diplomacy and politics. It is hoped that Wade’s case will enlighten our understanding of the diplomatic interpreter in Sino-British relations in the mid-nineteenth century. 因此,他也被外交大臣克莱顿(George Villiers, 4th Earl of Clarendon, 1800–1870)标签为“不安其位”(unsteadiness of purpose)。 Parallel title from added title page.Thesis M.Phil. Damage evolution of yttria-stabilized zirconia induced by He irradiation

    No full text
The study presents an investigation of damage evolution of yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) induced by irradiation of 100 key He ions at room temperature as a function of fluence. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used in order to study the nature and evolution of structural damage at different levels. Our study shows that various kinds of defects are formed with the increasing fluence. Firstly, at low fluences, from 1 x 10(16) to 4 x 10(16) cm(-2), of which maximum values of displacement per atom (dpa) range from 0.29 to 1.17, an elastic strain which is attributed to the accumulation of irradiation-induced discrete point defects, is presented. Secondly, in the intermediate fluences ranging from 8 x 10(16) to 1 x 10(17) cm(-2) with corresponding dpa varying from 2.33 to 2.91, a large drop of elastic strain occurs accompanied by presence of an intensive damage region, which is comprised by large and interacted defect clusters. Thirdly, at the two high fluences of 2 x 10(17) and 4 x 10(17) cm(-2). of which dpa are 5.83 and 11.65 respectively, a great amount of ribbon-like He bubbles with granular structure and cracks are presented at the depth of maximum concentration of deposited He atoms. The structural damage evolution and the mechanism of formation of He bubbles are discussed. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. Effects of thermal annealing on the evolution of He bubbles in zirconia

    No full text
Single crystals of yttria-stabilized zirconia were implanted with 100 keV He ions at two fluences of 9 x 1016 and 3 x 10(12) cm(-2) (5 and 17 He at.%). In order to investigate the effect of thermal annealing on the evolution of both zirconia lattice and implanted He, the samples were annealed at several temperatures ranging from 500 degrees C to 1400 degrees C. Three complementary analysis techniques, RBS/C, AFM and TEM were used to study structural damage and surface morphology of the crystal before and after implantation. Results show different He evolution phenomena under the two implantation fluences. It is inferred that, at the lower fluence, the migration and agglomeration of He ions lead to bubble formation after annealing. These bubbles jack up sample surface causing the deformation of surface region and the damage level of surface region increase accordingly. As the temperature continues to increase, He gradually releases and the damage recovers. However, at the higher fluence, the He concentration is sufficient to induce bubble precipitation without annealing. He release and damage recovering is less efficient upon annealing.
