Disaggregating PTAs at the Role of International Division of Labor on PTA Formation

    Get PDF
This paper shows that additional insights on PTA formation can be gained from separating North-South, North-North, and South-South country pairs. Inter-industry trade is mostly significant for all country pairs and intra-industry trade has a positive impact only for North-South and North-North country pairs. Controlling for geographical proximity, countries choose PTA partners with which they have a history of trading. Using a simple model, this paper demonstrates that trade protection is not the necessary outcome with international product fragmentation. Empirical findings support the hypothesis that international division of labor has influenced the formation of North- South PTAs.preferential trading agreements, product fragmentation, trade policy

Labor Market Flexibility as a Determinant of FDI Inflows

    Get PDF
This paper shows that labor market flexibility, measured by labor market standards and regulations, has two opposing effects on FDI inflows. Labor market regulations and standards decrease FDI inflows through the cost channel, but they increase FDI inflows through the productivity channel. Allowing for a non-linear relationship between different indicators of labor market flexibility and FDI inflows revealed that some degree of labor market standards and regulations may be attractive for foreign investors. Results strongly suggest that foreign investments to and from different countries and in different sectors are affected differently by different aspects of labor market standards and regulations.foreign direct investment, labor market flexibility

To be honest, it is critical for stakeholders to maintain the benefits of implementing peace and order regulations at their locations in order to encourage more enterprises to do business in the area and accomplish the expected vigorous economic growth in the future (Ocden, 2018).The purpose and structure of this research are to evaluate the factors influencing the promulgation of peace, order, and ordinances and to develop an intervention strategy based on the study's results. Its purpose is to describe existing characteristics such as mass media communication channels, transportation and accessibility, road conditions, interest and understanding, and budget. Primary data are collected using a self- administered survey questionnaire with the samples comprised 130 respondents. The results shows among five indicators, the mass media communication channel obtained the highest with the mean of 4.60. Followed by transportation and accessibility with 4.59. Next is road conditions with 4.43. Then, interest and understanding with 4.57. Lastly, the budget obtained the lowest with the mean of 4.54. Based on the findings the level of factors affecting effective dissemination of peace and order and ordinances in Barangay Madaum is very high. In accordance to the results of this study it is recommended that the LGU Tagum may unfold programs focusing on maintaining or improving the effective dissemination of information involving peace and order and ordinances in Barangay Madaum and other neighboring barangays. In that way, residents can have access to information from the city or barangay avoiding the situation of being uninformed. Moreover, it would be beneficial to the community as the performance of the Barangay Officials and Staffs determines the behavior of the residents as to how they are aware of the peace and order and ordinances imposed in the neighborhood.363.2xi, 57 page
