Pharmacological Management of Hashimoto Thyroiditis
Hashimoto Thyroiditis is an autoimmune thyroid disease and the most common cause of hypothyroidism in iodine adequate area. Thyroid hormone is an important hormone for growth, CNS development, cardiovascular system, and metabolism in human body. The main pharmacological management is an oral tablet form of levothyroxine monotherapy. Soft gel capsules and liquid form of levothyroxine are available in case of malabsorption. Cooley, Joy Hashimoto (b. 1927) recalls her family. She describes being interned, 1942-1945 in the Granada Relocation Center (later called Amache) in Colorado, attending college one year at Carleton and finishing her degree at North Dakota. Bound with the interivew are a biographical sketch of Dr. Hashimoto and a copy of the convocation address he gave to the graduating class of 1981 of the College of Medicine.
