An assessment of current practices and needs analysis of users in university industry linkages: a study in UiTM / Raenah Md Sem, Noraini Ismail and Dang Merduwati Hashim
UiTM has set up a centre called the UiTM lndustry Linkages Centre or UILC in mid-2003. The main role and function is to enable the university to provide a platform for a concerted and coordinated effort in addressing the various demands and needs of such linkages on the diverse requirements of the industry and various faculties of the university. The Center needs to conduct a pilot study to evaluate the extent of linkages so far attained by the members of the different units or faculties, the curriculum so far implemented or the extent of the teaching staff's attachment to industry, among others. As such this study aims to assess: (i) to assess the extent of current practices and (ii) the status of university industry linkages of UiTM lecturers and how they would view the role of the Centre. The first stage of the research was to conduct a focus group dialogue followed by the development of the research instrument and the field survey. A focus group dialogue was conducted with 6 companies representing the various sectors on 25 February 2004 at UiTM Hotel
Service quality in higher educational institution: an empirical study on academic offices of UiTM Malaysia / Bahijah Md Hashim, Sarina Muhamad Noor and Noraini Aminudin
The Academic Office is responsible for providing services in all matters pertaining to academic affairs for the staff, students as well as the public. Being the heart of the tertiary institution, the service quality rendered by this department has a significant effect on its customers. Thus, this study examines the services it offers by measuring the customers’ feedback. This is done by comparing the customers’ expectations of the service they receive with their perceptions of the actual performance of the department providing the services (Sasser,et.al.,1987; Parasuraman et.al., 1991). The criteria used to assess the service quality covers the organization's tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy (Parasuraman et. al., 1988; 1985)
The scope of this study includes all employees of an academic office, the full-time students enrolled and the lecturers in the institution. The period of the study was from October 2000 until October 2001.The research is based on the Service Quality Model (Parasuraman, Zeithmal and Berry’s Service Quality Model). Information was gathered through a service quality questionnaire (SERVQUAL Quality Questionnaire of Parasuraman, et.al.,1994) which was pilot-tested with a random sample of the respondents. The findings hopefully, will sufficiently guide the administrators in academic offices in planning and outlining approaches and strategies for handling their customers. Besides, it will enable them (the administrators) to take corrective measures or develop new approaches in ensuring the level of servic

A noninvasive molecular approach: exploiting species-locus-specific PCR primers in defeating numts and DNA cross-contamination of cercopithecidae
The lack of a standardized, noninvasive molecular approach to studying genetic aspects of primates has made it hard for primatologists to decode the evolutionary history of these species. Researchers must optimize their own techniques to fully exploit the available samples. Lack of species-locus-specific primers also contributes to difficulties in using noninvasive genetic samples. Thus, the objectives of this study were to develop a standardized technique to collecting samples noninvasively, propose newly designed species-locus-specific primers, and optimize conditions for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for Macaca fascicularis, M. nemestrina, Trachypithecus cristatus, and T. obscurus. Nine new species-locus-specific primers for three different loci of mitochondrial DNA, namely D-loop, cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI), and cytochrome b, were successfully designed. These primers proved to be efficient in amplifying larger datasets (up to ~1,000 bp) of the targeted species in the optimized PCR conditions. The species-locus-specific primers are able to anneal to host DNA alone in highly contaminated feces of highlighted species. They can also offer alternatives measures in avoiding contamination related to nuclear insertion of mitochondrial pseudogenes (numts)
Matrimonial offences in the light of Islamic law
Based on the principle that family is the main entity of the society, this paper highlights the importance of the marital relationship in Islam. As the foundation of the family institution, it is important to provide legal protection to the marital relationship from any harmful act that may damage and threaten the stability of the family. As Islamic law is the main source of family law in most Muslim countries, the analysis of Islamic legal provisions in respect to the marriage contract and its legal effects between the spouses has lead the author to define and classify the matrimonial offences that damage the matrimonial relationship and subsequently the family and society. Based on the general theory of offences in Islamic law and compared (by way of analogy) to the legal effects of a valid marriage contract, matrimonial offences are defined as legally prohibited acts strictly forbidden by Allah relating to the conjugal rights resulting from a valid marriage contract and become fully ascertained after having sexual intercourse. Providing such provisions in a legislative form will enhance the position of the matrimonial relationship as the foundation of the family inadvertently strengthening the society.
Key words: Family Law, Islamic Law, Marital Relationship, Matrimonial Offences
