Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, during the period from October, 2018 to
March, 2019 to evaluate biochemical insecticides applied against major insect pests of
cabbage. The treatments were T

: untreated control (no pesticides). The experiment was laid out in a
Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Data were
collected on the insect pest species associated with cabbage crop along with their
nature of damage, seasonal incidence, damaging stage, cabbage head length and
diameter, yield and data on natural enemies. A statistically significant variation was
recorded in terms of all the characters related to growth and yield quality. In terms of
leaf infestation by cabbage semi-looper at 20 DAT the highest number (12) of leaf
infested by semi-looper was for Untreated control and lowest (4) infestation was
observed for flubendiamide (Belt 24 WG). Significant variations were observed
among different number of treatments of cabbage semi-looper at 20 DAT the highest
(11.66) infestation by Cabbage semi-looper was observed for Untreated control and
lowest (6.66) were found for flubendiamide (Belt 24 WG). At 20 DAT the highest
(5.33) infestation by Cabbage cutworm was for Untreated control and lowest (2.66)
were for flubendiamide (Belt 24 WG). At 20 DAT the highest (16) infestation by
Cabbage diamondback moth larvae was for Untreated control and lowest (12) were
for flubendiamide (Belt 24 WG). In terms of number of field spiders at 20 DAT, there
was no significantly variation found among the treatments. For Lady bird beetle, at 20
DAT, there was no significantly variation found among the treatments. But at 60 DAT
the highest (6.66) number of lady bird beetle was observed for untreated control. The
highest diameter of cabbage head (22.2cm) was achieved from flubendiamide (Belt 24
WG) and lowest diameter (15.5cm) of cabbage was collected for untreated control.
The highest height of cabbage head was achieved from flubendiamide (Belt 24 WG)
(11.3cm) and lowest diameter of cabbage for untreated control (6.5cm) and the
highest yield (19.97 ton/ha.) of cabbage head was achieved from flubendiamide (Belt
24 WG) and lowest yield (18.22 ton/ha.) of cabbage was collected for untreated
control. Number of beneficial Arthropods as natural enemies, was also recorded and
data suggested relatively low effect on natural beneficial Arthropods

Improving User Query Results Through Diversification
Due to the large size of many structured and semi-structured databases, queries often return a large number of relevant results. Result diversification has recently been proposed as an approach to increase user satisfaction in search engines and recommendation systems. The top-k returned results are not only relevant to the query but also as diverse as possible from each other.In this dissertation, we address three diversification related problems and propose efficient solutions for them. We firstly consider diversification on semi-structured data. We show that diversity can occur not only in the document content but also (and more importantly) in the document structure. We present a novel algorithm for diversification that considers both the structure and the content of the matched results. We propose a distance measure that is an order of magnitude faster than the standard tree-edit distance. The second problem considers how to balance relevance and diversity in the final top-k returned results. Previous works balance relevance and diversity mostly in a predefined fixed way. We propose a principled method for adaptive diversification of query results that minimizes the user effort to find the desired results by dynamically balancing the relevance and diversity. Finally, we consider the distributed diversification problem on large result-sets dispersed over many nodes. Using the MapReduce framework, we consider two distinct approaches, one that focuses on optimizing disk I/O and one that optimizes for network I/O. Our methods are iterative in nature, allowing the user to continue refining the result if more time is available. Moreover, we prove that this iteration process converges while producing a 2-approximate diversified result when compared to the optimal solution.Furthermore, in the last part of the thesis, we investigate the problem of answering top-k queries satisfying spatial constraints. We propose a novel index structure that uses R-tree to tackle the spatial constraints, and pre-computed inverted lists to answer the top-k queries efficiently using the well known threshold algorithm. We present a model than can estimate the expected size of the inverted lists for the threshold algorithm using the data properties and query parameters. With the proposed model, we could reduce the index size significantly without sacrificing the performance of the threshold algorithm
Modeling and Performance Analysis of GaSb-Based Mid-infrared Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser

current characteristics are numerically studied for GalnSb/GalnAlSb mid-infrared quantum well
vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL). At first physical model of the VCSEL is proposed
and then mathematical formulations is developed taking into account of strain, change in crystal
orientation and piezoelectric field. The results obtained from the model are confirmed with the
published results. To investigate the performances of the proposed VCSEL. wave functions. energy
dispersion profiles, and momentum matrix elements are determined by Schrodinger equation using
finite dilièrence method. The results are calculated for a compressively strained quantum well in
which strain is varied from 0.6% to 1.52% with the change in crystal orientation (001), (111), (110),
(113) and (131). It is tbund that wave function confnenient. energy separation between different
hands and subhands. and magnitude of momentum matrix elements are strongly dependent on strain.

and differential gains are calculated. Typical optical gains are found to he 3115. 3080. 2790. 341 5.
and 2940 cm in (001 ), (110), (111), (113). and (131) crystal orientations, respectively when the
injection carrier density is 3,5x 1018 cm-3. Further, the maximum differential gain is evaluated
2.78x 1018cm-1 (113) orientation (or the injection carrier density 3.0x I 0IXcm-3. Ihe results obtained
in the present stud• indicate that the peak emission wavelength can he tuned from 2.4 µm to 2.25 µm
by changing crystal orientation from (110)10 (111) in the well and harrier materials. It is also found
that the influence of piezoelectric effect is not so remarkable on the optical gain and shift in peal
emission wavelength for the proposed VCSLL.
To understand the output characteristics, the proposed VCSEL. model is converted into PSPICE
equivalent circuit. The results obtained from PSPICE simulation demonstrate that the maximum
output power and the minimum threshold current are associated with the crystal orientation and the
ii umber of quantum wells. The highest optical power and lower threshold current are obtained hen
the crystal orientation is (113) and number of quantum well is three. Furthermore, design of
distributed Bragg reflector indicates 30 and 38 pairs of alternating layer of AlAs0.09 Sb0.91 and GaSb

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
