GNuggies: A proposal for hosting resilient stateless services using untrusted nodes
This thesis outlines a proposal for a serverless cloud compute system hosted on untrusted nodes. We call this proposed system “GNuggies”. It is designed to feel instantly familiar to existing serverless offerings such as AWS Lambda or Azure Cloud Functions. The key difference between GNuggies and existing offerings is that GNuggies proposes leveraging spare compute resources by allowing anyone to contribute nodes into the system. These contributed nodes must be treated as untrusted and this is where the bulk this thesis’s contributions arise:
1. A proposed architecture that adapts well understood Distributed Systems concepts to situations involving untrusted nodes and to run in the absence of central authorities.
2. A proposed system wherein actors choose to contribute spare compute and are effectively incentivized to do so.
3. An incentive structure that makes actors less willing to behave in a malicious manner.
This thesis discusses the methods to be used and evaluates their strengths and weaknesses. Metal artifact reduction in cone-beam extremity images using gated convolutions

Publisher Copyright: © 2021 IEEE.Quality of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images are marred by artifacts in the presence of metallic implants. Metal artifact correction is a challenging problem in CBCT scanning especially for large metallic objects. The appearance of artifacts also change greatly with the body part being scanned. Metal artifacts are more pronounced in orthopedic imaging, when metals are in close proximity of other high density materials, such as bones. Recently introduced mask incorporating deep learning networks for metal inpainting showed improvements over classical methods in CBCT image quality. However, generalization of results for more than one body part is still not investigated. We investigate, the use of gated convolutions for mask guidance inpainting to improve the filling of the corrupt metal area in projection domain. The neural network was trained with eight clinical metal affected datasets by incorporating data augmentation techniques. In the end, we validate our method on six clinical datasets. Our method shows promising results both in projections and reconstructed images.Peer reviewe

A user-defined error tolerance for the surrogate's solution approximation is also maintained during this process. </p><p>The source code is a Python implementation for the ActLearn-POD-KSNN surrogate model proposed in the article. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
