Anharmonic vibrational computations with a quartic force field for curvilinear coordinates
The direct vibrational self-consistent field (VSCF) method, which combines anharmonic vibrational theory with electronic structure calculations, is a sophisticated theoretical approach to calculate the vibrational spectra of molecules from first principles. Combining the VSCF approach with the quartic force field (QFF) is a good alternative to direct VSCF, with a lower computational cost. QFF is a 4th-order Taylor expansion of the potential energy surface near an equilibrium geometry. In this study, a new strategy is proposed to derive the QFF in terms of normal coordinates; the QFF coefficients are determined through numerical differentiations of the energy by representing the normal coordinates in internal rather than Cartesian coordinates. The VSCF/QFF-internal method was implemented in the General Atomic and Molecular Electronic Structure System electronic structure program and applied to the evaluations of the fundamental vibrational frequencies of HNO2, HNO3, H2O dimer, and H2O trimer, using Møller-Plesset second order perturbation theory and the aug-cc-pVDZ and aug-cc-pVTZ basis sets. Yu Takeuchi
Yu Takeuchi is serving for JAXA since 2007 and currently working as Associate Senior Administrator at Management and Integration Department of Human Spaceflight Technology Directorate. He is also working as Researcher at the Institute of Space Law of Keio University. He received LL.M. degree from the Institute of Air and Space Law of McGill University in 2015. His main interest is in international space law inter alia the legal aspects of space traffic management and sustainable space development. He is a member of the Air Law Institute of Japan, Japanese Society of International Law, and the International Institute of Space Law (IISL).

A significant role of the totally symmetric valley-ridge inflection point in the bifurcating reaction pathway
Appearance of the valley-ridge inflection (VRI) point on the intrinsic reaction path (IRP) introduces geometrical instability of the reaction coordinate, and sometimes leads to two different product minima on the potential energy surface (PES). A significant role of the totally-symmetric VRI point on the IRP is discussed from the viewpoint of branching of the reaction pathway. As illustrative examples, ab initio calculations were performed to determine the IRP for XCHO^[-] + CH3Cl (X = H, CH3) at the Møller-Plesset second-order perturbation theory (MP2) level with 6-31+G(d) basis sets and geometric features of the PES around the IRP have been analyzed
Intractability of Optimal Multi-Robot Path Planning on Planar Graphs
We study the computational complexity of optimally solving multi-robot path planning problems on planar graphs. For four common time- and distance-based objectives, we show that the associated path optimization problems for multiple robots are all NP-complete, even when the underlying graph is planar. Establishing the computational intractability of optimal multi-robot path planning problems on planar graphs has important practical implications. In particular, our result suggests the preferred approach toward solving such problems, when the number of robots is large, is to augment the planar environment to reduce the sharing of paths among robots traveling in opposite directions on those paths. Indeed, such efficiency boosting structures, such as highways and elevated intersections, are ubiquitous in robotics and transportation applications.Peer reviewe

Writing a Wikipedia Article on Cultural Competence in Health Care
This article describes how librarians created a Wikipedia article on cultural competence in health care to support the medical school’s curriculum. Wikipedia, often considered not as reliable as scholarly articles, continues to be popular. Rutgers librarians conducted a Wikipedia project to improve its content to benefit students. The importance of cultural competency in health care is widely recognized due to increasingly diverse patient populations. Medical schools integrate cultural competency in curricula to train students to be culturally competent. Therefore, this topic was chosen for the Wikipedia Project. It is hoped that health sciences librarians and educators will benefit from their experience
